Which reminds me, Mercedes Carrera is still in jail awaiting trial, going on almost six years now.

Holy shit, you're not kidding. Disgusting abuse from the justice system.

"The right to a speedy trial" means before 100 years have passed.

She was arrested in California. Under California law your right to a speedy trial means that the trial must commence within 45 days if you're not in custody or within 30 days if you are. If she was arrested on federal charges they have 70 days to bring her to trial.

The thing is, waiving your right to a speedy trial is pretty standard in almost all cases, because you generally want to give your defense team as much time as possible to prepare. If you are out on bail, it's almost a no-brainer because you can continue to work and live almost to normal life while waiting for the trial to commence.

I'm not sure why more defendants don't refuse to waive it as a tactical maneuver, considering the state will be as rushed as your own attorneys, and if very many people demanded their right to a speedy trial at the same time it would quickly overwhelm the justice system and result in mountains of dismissals.

Particularly in cases where the defendant is denied bail, it doesn't seem very advantageous to waive their rights, is the government pretty much has what it wants as long as you're in jail and have no incentive to not drag the entire process out as long as humanly possible.

The trial has been delayed by Mercedes herself numerous times, but the faggot judge still won't grant bail. The reason is that everything hinges on the testimony of the daughter who was manipulated by her father into making the accusations in the first place. They're waiting for the girl to grow up enough to understand how serious this all is so she won't just lie on the stand because daddy told her to.

The trial has been delayed by Mercedes herself numerous times

Yup, that's what I've heard too. The whole thing is still insane, but at least some of the delay is on her end...although it sounds like her lawyers have screwed her (no, not like that) a few times too. She's delayed things...but so has everyone else.

It's still wild she's been in jail for six years...and they've dropped many of the original charges, too, as I understand.

It's crazy, too. I'm all for protecting children, and if they did abuse the child they can burn in hell, but it seems like a bunch of this was just 'stuff happened, and there was a child nearby,' so they tacked on a bunch of modifiers. There was a gun and drugs in the house...so the gun became illegal because of the drugs, and both became worse because there was a child in the vicinity. And then a bunch of shit was taken out of context, I believe.

Again, if they actually harmed the child, they can rot. But the courts are so far from proving that it's absurd. I haven't kept a close eye on this but, as I recall, it was basically a bit of a sketchy environment, which led to what was essentially a (post)marital dispute getting really out of hand.

The father became a born-again religious type, and the case was brought in one of the harshest, most corrupt, shithole mafia court districts in California for a reason. I believe the father and the lead prosecutor in the case knew each other somehow too. I want to say it was that they played golf at the same club for years.

That does sound vaguely familiar, although it's been a long time since I checked into any of that. What a mess, though.

I'd suggest that a group of people involved in the process have a financial incentive to advise defendants to waive their right.

Beyond that, the system endears so much legalese and judicial "red tape" that preparing a defense might not be realistic in only 30 or 45 days. Since this effectively destroys that right, it could be argued that this outcome is intentional. Alternatively, a bloated bureaucratic judicial system rides atop the mountain of regulation and law created by legislators, and has made a fast defense impractical.

NotYourShield, where in an attempt to prove that Women and Minorities were not to be used as a shield were used as a shield but for GG itself, continuing the trend of treating their opinions as worth more than anyone else's.

I'll give early GG credit, they were right in that it was a Leftist movement even in how it acted.

▲ 25 ▼
– ArtemisFoul 25 points 11 months ago +27 / -2

Horseshit. It was just people from specific groups the woke claimed to speak for saying "no you don't speak for me". It was basically the only time sex and race were actually relevant in GG.

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ -1 ▼
– Adamrises -1 points 11 months ago +9 / -10

No, it was a bunch of blacks and women saying "you don't own us" while the rest of GG huddled behind them to deflect criticism about being racist/sexist because all the Leftists who made up the majority were still deep in Leftie political thinking. The same way the Right just so happened to find Candace Owens super smart and capable and totally not because she was a black woman they could use to say "look we aren't bigots!"

I was there nigger, and I was being downvoted for saying it then too, it was the same old worship of blacks and women as anyone on the Left. They were just on "our side" so it was treated as okay.

This whitewashing of history just tells me how much you guys were totally on board with it at the time that it didn't even occur to you it was happening. Especially if you think race/sex weren't always relevant to GG and how heavily it supported someone (such as the grifting Honeybadgers).

▲ 5 ▼
– ModsAreAIDS 5 points 11 months ago +5 / -0

it was the same old worship of blacks and women as anyone on the Left.

Which makes perfect sense, because early GG was filled with "one of the good ones" liberals who were determined to believe that this wasn't a left/right schism, and that it wasn't also happening anywhere outside of gaming.

There was a lot of gaslighting from controlled opposition within our ranks until the red pill suppositories started being handed out in bulk during the 2016 election. Most of our members were pretty naive before then.

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 3 ▼
– Adamrises 3 points 11 months ago +3 / -0

My point exactly. Early GG was filled full with Lefties dancing on the edge because they were being pushed too far, but they were still Lefties who still believed in nearly all the same politics minus the one thing they knew was false, that being Video Games.

People forget that literally everytime GG was called a Right (or alt-right or Trump or whatever) movement that the majority of them were fucking aghast at the accusation (because Right wingers are evil!) and cited that one study saying it was mostly Lefties. Which culminated with the mods truly believing that banning anyone who also posted on T_D was a good idea to purge wrong thinkers.

I was there, and there were many good people who were putting in good efforts that deserve full commendation. But trying to wipe away that probably 80% of KIAPrime was pro-homo, pro-trans kids, and everything else we scream about now is pure whitewashing.

I still remember when everyone hated Black Man from The Force Awakens for being a clear diversity hire and all that jazz.

And then a few years later when he lamented that he was used like a diversity hire and not allowed to be a mega star supported by Disney he was suddenly "based black man calling them out!!"

Well I remember most people being annoyed that the black storm trooper made no sense because most of us who weren't extremely deep in the lore were under the impression that they were all clones of someone who wasn't black.

And yes, Boyega is still a racist asshole, even if he's right about Disney being shit.

It happens for sure. Being seen as “fighting oppression” seems to be so trendy amongst young people. Of course they wouldn’t go to a middle eastern country and fight for women’s rights or go to Africa or Asia and fight against slavery/sex trafficking. Another good illustration of this where the people asking the “refugees welcome” people if they would sign a paper to take in refugees in their home. All this to say being seen as fighting oppression or standing up for those perceived to be oppressed is super trendy

Always has. The entire 60s was a bunch of people pretending that pot and sex was "fighting oppression" and they were superheroes for doing it.

Same with all the race riots of the 90s, where black guys thought destroying random businesses and killing anyone they could would "somehow" un-beat Rodney King.

They're not asking anyone to take refugees into their home. They are asking people to have refugees as their neighbors. I think what we should say is, unless the person lives in a multi-culti hellhole, "why do you live near citizens if you assert that refugees make things so great?"

I meant the "refugees welcome" sign people are asking other people to have refugees as neighbors, rather than housemates. So I think it's better if the response reflects that. A lot of people would say that they welcome refugees, but they wouldn't live next to them (IRL when they actually have to make a decision where to put their kids.)

That's actually the irony. Libs for the most part will complain about problems.abroad but not do anything about them. Then weirdly born agains from here will completely slip over domestic poverty and hunger and jump on a plane to Guatemala or something and build a field hospital for brown people. Because apparently helping disenfranchised white people in Appalachia isnt trendy enough.

They have mentioned this at my church. While it’s noble to help all people in need as Christ commands, we shouldn’t forget those down the street from us. We work a lot with the local elementary school, food kitchen, pregnancy center (helping mothers who keep their babies), etc. But yes, we can’t be going across the world while ignoring our own community. I don’t see anything wrong with helping people in other parts of the world but those in need down the street are often ignored. I know I could do more

This is also what happened with #MeToo. Women came out and said "no, I wasn't raped. I made bad choices and ended up having sex i regretted but I wasn't raped.' Then a bunch of women were like SHUT UP SAMATHA YES YOU WERE RAPED! Here, have all this attention and potential money from the court cases along with the benefit of being a victim! Then girls were like oh, now that mention it wow you're right, I was raped! How did I not see it before...

What a load of shit. I hate our society.
