Anthropomorphic animals are usually cute and everyone likes them. A lot of games have some kind of animal inspired race, are they expecting something else?
Also wasn't this one in some woke drama just before release?
several problems with this game. One is the major problem which is the english localization was absolutely butchered by woke localizers . And the other issue with the game is also the fact that they had a black female as one of the 3 main characters just seems suspicious to me (especially one with afro hair , since most of the time when there IS dark skinned characters in japanese media they usually still have straight hair . Both the black female being one of the main characters and also the fact that she has an afro strikes me as woke) AND the black female had a rather uninspired bland design, the kind of blandness you'd expect from the woke who doesn't want to give the character more feminine appeal
I vaguely remember the localization drama and I just removed it from my radar. I forgot it was even made.
There are a lot of JRPGs in my backlog as is so I'm more then happy to support only 100% woke free
This one got hit pretty hard by the localization stick. There's a team assembled to try and retranslate the game.
Yeah this guy has been going through the whole thing and finding the worst translation differences. It's a classic case of boring writer trying to "punch up" the script by adding awful jokes. I would say it's not even worth it, other than as an exercise to see how bad it is.
This is the one that had the localization that made a character call some big NPC a “chud.”
Yes, they want the animals to be sexualized because they're low key (or sometimes not so low key) into beastiality. Just like the troons they insist on dragging their degenerate fetish into everything.
No, you just don’t notice it in other games because you’re a furry and like furry games.
Modern games suck for the most part. Game studios are full of people who fail to realize what made games (such as Suikoden, on which Eiyuden Chronicle is based) great at best, and who have utter contempt for them at worst.
The hobby won’t heal until that changes.
He's not wrong that there's a certain psychic stench that comes along with anything furry (which has been distinct from anthromorphic animals for many years) in games.
Those who are prone to furry-ism either have a proper, deep sense of shame over it, in which case they hide their power level, or else they're more flamboyant than the head batontwirler at a gay pride parade.
Those who hide their power level, who conceal their "psychic stench" as you put it, aren't going out and making symbols of furry-dom in mass media. They get artists through college by buying ill-advised furry art, and that's usually about it. It's the ones who DO broadcast themselves, that also make the major marketing content. Of course, that overt crowd is ALSO the type of crowd to get obsessed with pronouns, DEI, BRIDGE, sexual open promiscuity, etc etc. Which as we know, ruin games (and most other things, too).
A "furry game", or one made by a pro-furry advocate, would have all the pitfalls of the left, PLUS the additional subculture issues unique to that subculture.
I misread that as trench and, yeah, there's a huge, gaping chasm between humanoid animal characters and furries. It's like the difference between a character that's black and a black character; people can sense the intention of the author behind their work and instinctually reject fringe preferences. Luckily, it often percolates throughout their work and is as easily identifiable as other red flags of corruption like CalArts.
What is this relatability bullshit that keeps popping up?
I had no problem playing games where people did not look like me, act like me, or talk like me appear in.
It's all about how to involve yourself in their lives and watch things play out in real time as you progress in the games.
You would think people who abso-fucking-lutely love putting themselves where they don't belong could appreciate that. But I guess doing exactly what they do is just too hard if you can't also change everything to suit your tastes.
Also the english translation got really fucked in this. Shame too, since it's exactly the kind of game I would enjoy.
It's the 'How would you feel if you didn't have breakfast this morning?' question writ large.
As disturbing as it is to contemplate, as time has gone by, I've become more and more convinced that alot of mental capabilities I'd venture most people on here can pull off just aren't present in the population at-large.
Growing up, I had no issue reading about a protagonist radically different than myself; Fuck, I still re-read Dragonsong and Dragonsinger from Anne Macaffery because that shit is comfy as fuck, even though I am not a girl nor do I can about singing much.
It's why the NPC meme is so terrifying, and why people freaked out about it; the idea that there are degrees of consciousness, and not everyone has the same qualia basically makes society as a whole break down. It makes people demonstrably lesser in a way that can't be ignored.
The best way to get perspective is to find someone with 100IQ and realise about 1/2 the world population is at least as stupid or worse.
Because these people are mentally ill (but we all knew that already) and are completely unable to relate to anything that isn't openly about them or people exactly like them.
It's because their brains aren't fully formed, and they're often low IQ on top of having broken brains (asking if they didn't have breakfast yesterday, etc).
...and coached into narcissistic behaviour; common in circles of degeneracy as a coping mechanism for the suicide-tier shame they accumulate.
I actively dislike games that feature "relatable" me. I already relate to myself, I can "relate" to myself for free at any given moment. I want to experience the story of someone very much not myself.
And I am hardly alone there. The most popular characters in Starcraft 2 by mass community poll were Abathur, Alarak, and Alexei. A sociopathic bug, a religious zealot space-elf, and a depressed Russian zombie. The "relatable" characters couldn't even break top-8. People loved their very alien (pun intended) perspectives and worldviews, they didn't give a shit about Raynor and Kerrigan's little love story hiccups and "human" concerns. It's sci-fi, they wanted sci-fi concerns.
Problem is, these aphantasia types are loud, and insist on being part of the creation process even for things they'd never buy. "No character has a hangnail on their fourth toe of their right foot, I just can't identify with their experiences!"

Can you send your kid to a shrink if it's a furry or will you get in trouble?
Depends on the state. In Oklahoma a school called animal control to pick up a furry from class.
Based
Smooth brains that require protagonists to be like them in order to imerse themselves are the most critical brain dead retards on the planet. I don't need Samus to be a man to feel like a.. uh.. well ehatever the fuck Samus is. Sure as hell isn't a bounty hunter despite what the lore keeps.. never mind.
I don't need to be a twink to enjoy Zelda.
I also don't need to be a fucking animal to enjoy animal protag games. It's called an imagination. Work on that... Christ.
Also fuck me.. 100 heros? So it's safe to say individual character development is basicly completely nonexistant. Rendering his bitch moot from the start.
The "Samus is a bounty hunter" part of the lore is because Nintendo didn't know what a bounty hunter was when they made her. There's an interview with Bryan Walker of Retro Studios that explains this.
The short version is Nintendo thought "Bounty Hunter" meant "Noble Space Adventurer."
It does. :)
Looks like the writer of that article is a troon.
What a shock. Troons have been trying to claim Samus for years.
That makes sense to me. Shame, really. A free roam quest about collecting bounties as Samus sounds like a damn cool game. Especially after all the world building they've made over the years. Even if a lot of it is kind of batshit insane.
A niche game based on a cult classic that had a massive controversy before its release might fail?
Shocking, truly.
It having anthro races has literally nothing to do with its failure as Unicorn Overlord just three months ago had many of those and succeeded just fine.
I hope I can come across a very detailed paper or blog post or something that gets into the nitty-gritty of this obsession with "relating" to characters. It's always so superficial and shallow, and never about something in-depth or personal.
"That person does not resemble me physically. That person does not have my same sexuality. That person does not repeat my personal political beliefs." What the fuck is this? I played the shit out of Spyro and Crash Bandicoot when I was a kid and I never had this "relatability" problem. Today I play 2B, dwarves, my FF14 Highlander lady, Saiyans, Warframes, Slime Rancher lady, and on and on. None of these people are copies of me, and yet I don't suffer this self-obsessed debilitating feeling of not being able to relaaaaaate to them.
Yiff in hell, furfags.
Nobody likes furry degenerates, shocker. Get the fuck out of our hobby.
If this isn't a troll (and I have no reason to feel like it is), I feel incredibly bad for this sorry sack of neuroses and misery.
Putting aside the fact that it "CAN NOT relate to human characters," which somehow manages to not be the most sad and pathetic part of the rant, this creature for some reason believes "furries" (I don't think this game is even really "furry," but I'm not too familiar with it) have some conspiracy against them to destroy their characters specifically. It's even referenced to (but in scare quotes) as paranoia. As OP said, so close to self-awareness.
Also, it manages to once again outdo the "CAN NOT relate to human characters," by "desperately looking for new antrho-related games I CAN relate to." It's insane how these people act. Now, there are some characters I don't feel comfortable or enjoy playing, but it's really few and far between. I can play and "relate to" female characters, male characters, robot characters, animal characters, "anthro" characters (who are basically just weird looking humans as far as behavior goes, which furthers the weirdness of the furry mindset), and so on. If the gameplay is good, and the narrative isn't cringe, I'm fine playing anything. Again, some I enjoy more than others, but I'm not going to desperately hunt down anything.
The whole thing is just really sad.
There are a few non-human races. You play as a human. The translation is fucking retarded. Sharkship is the same as sharkraft right? And Sharkmen is the same as Shi'Ark, too right?
Yup. That's the real issue. It's not some big conspiracy to get furries (sadly), it's just communists being retarded as usual.
total furry death
Our boycotts do have an impact
Not so long ago, who would ever have thought you could have a mass psychosis that's like development arrested at year 4.
I mean, the man-child thing is bad enough, but come on.
Furries are disgusting degenerates
