I think he is a scapegoat despite disagreeing that his sentence is too harsh. If he's getting an appropriate sentence despite being the Democrats' biggest donor, it's because they're afraid to give him a sweetheart deal with the election coming up.

Look at Ross Ulbricht- he ran a drug selling website and was sentenced to 2 life sentences PLUS 40 years.
