They're known as tourists for a reason, they're mostly ignored till they say 'wouldn't be better if' and at that point we tell them to fuck off.
Since western media under their guidance has turned to shit, they're trying to latch onto anime to get a drop of relevance. Fortunately things like localisers and Sweet Baby entering even normie consciousness might have dashed all those efforts.
Almost everyone is tourists on this topic. OP is talking about Trigun, other people are recommending Shield Hero and Berserk and Fist of the North Star. The most surface level of shows possible, likely because they only engage with things that are already popular and have thriving fanbases to meme with.
I think that's just as big an issue as any woke bullshit. The fact that people just need their entertainment to be half social/team bullshit that they can be a tribe with. It not only limits them to the same cliche "I'll sound cool if I recommend this one" lines, but constantly exposed playing right into the Woke's hands by leaving that gaping vulnerability of needing fandoms to enjoy things.
People recommend those shows because they're good.
Now I can sit here and recommend someone go watch Kamen No Maid Guy just for the scene where he plugs a USB into his ear because I think it's hilarious, but the simple truth is that Berserk or Shield Hero are just straight up better shows so they're the ones that I'm going to recommend someone. Hell, even a good but more obscure show like No Edo Rocket is going to be lower down on the priority list because it's more of an acquired taste and without knowing the individual's tastes well enough I'm not going to know that pointing them in that direction isn't going to just waste their time.
They're also so well known that if you've watched any anime you already know of them and their quality. Heck most of them you already know half the twists and famous scenes because the memes are so pervasive you've seen them all before you even could sit down to read it (see, Donovan's face and the Rape Horse from Berserk).

Shield Hero being good
This nigga stopped watching before the Spirit Turtle started.
Does it actually improve from there? I dropped out (manga reader) when after Spirit Turtle it implied he was going to another another world and realized I hadn't enjoyed it since Bitch's trial.
It's funny because the first time I heard the word tourist in that context it was from people trying to push female space marines and other bullshit. Literal projection.
Mainstream culture has gone insane and it seeps into every aspect of society as far as I can tell. I don't think there's anywhere that's safe now. The closest thing to sanctuary I've found has been my martial arts class. It's the only place I've had for years now that's either politically neutral or actively makes fun of the danger hairs and their ilk.
All online spaces seem to be thoroughly fucked though.
Fandoms only exist around something popular, otherwise it's extremely niche productions that probably didn't to well enough in the first place the company that made it went under. At most you might have some autist that made some wiki entries for it but that's about the best you will achieve before popularity takes over which then brings along the tourists that fuck things up.
It's a product of fandom as a fashion. there's a significant population of people online that feel like they can't fit in unless they like the same things everyone else does. these are the kinds of people who will wear Kingdom Hearts heartless hoodies despite having never played the games, call themselves massive Tolkien fans despite having never read the books, wear a t-shirt depicting a popular anime character despite having dropped the show, etc etc.
these are the people that journalists are trying to cater to when they insist that games become easy, or that's beloved franchises become ""updated"" for ""modern audiences"". In addition to having no imagination, they can't create new franchises because those new franchises aren't popular and therefore are not fashionable.
Fandom in general is pretty autistic and degenerate, in my opinion. Doesn't matter what it's a fandom for, or even if it's Current Year or in the past. "Fan" comes from "fanatic" after all. Especially since people started making their hobbies into their personality which, while more prevalent now, has always been a thing...it's always been the extreme weirdos. They just used to be less weird, and more genuinely passionate. But I can tell you, even two decades ago, those in the "anime fandom" as opposed to just "anime fans/enthusiasts" were creepy weirdos.
TL;DR: "Fandoms" are gay anyway.
But I get what you mean, too. Even not getting into the technicals about "fandom" versus mere "group of enjoyers," it's getting harder and harder to find a group of people who enjoy anything, without it having a bunch of gay trans shit inserted into it. Anime, video games, tabletop/D&D, movies/TV, politics, books...everything is overrun by the gay scourge right now.
Trigun is one of my favorites, sorry to hear that. I think it’s just a symptom of the terminally online. Most normal people who like something like Trigun don’t have time to post about it all day, but useless faggot trannies that are unemployed or underemployed have a near limitless amount of time to inject their weird sex shit into it.
Plus there’s the fact that they get off on smearing their disgusting ideology all over everything as a way of claiming it for themselves.
It's kind of why I appreciate the Shield Hero fanbase being normal in comparison. The tourists already hated it from the very beginning so the anime gatekept itself in a way. And the fact that it's getting a 4th season makes it extremely satisfying.
The thing is, that "normal" people who enjoy something, they will enjoy it and then move on with their lifes. Even if they want to discuss or share their recent experience with other people who had the same experience, they will do it for few days and move on.
At the end, any "normal" person values real life more than fantasy worlds that we experience by reading books, watching anime/movies/shows or playing games.
Therefore "fandoms" are full with people who are obsessed with things they enjoy. These people stick around all the time, they can't stop thinking about it, because their life sucks and they can't deal with it.
Being obsessed with something is obviously not healthy and these people are mostly disturbed.
no one likes /r/gundam users. Especially their builds. Besides bandai predominantly panders to china since they're like the second largest plastic addicts. So while it is fucked, it's fucked in a way the original fanbase like it.
Why do you feel the need to add an entire social element to your entertainment beyond the product itself? A need to consume product beyond just the media itself?
I think you'll fine the answers you come up with indicative of a lot of issues bigger than just the trash that is woke weebs.

I agree with your assessment.
I think most of the argument folks have is whether this hierarchical planned or grassroots.

You wish. I'm looking forward to season 4.
Does it actually improve from there? I dropped out (manga reader) when after Spirit Turtle it implied he was going to another another world and realized I hadn't enjoyed it since Bitch's trial.
No, I dropped the novel around the same point. Doubt the anime will diverge from the source in order to make it better.

What type of martial arts are you taking?
No, because that's not how it works.

This is a large part of why I despise that Baldur's Gate 3 is a thing that exists. It brought in the hordes of tourists to something I care about.
D&D's downfall started with 3.5 edition.
You put an extra .5 in your reply.
Anyone who can't figure out THAC0 doesn't have any business being near D&D.
It doesn't even need to be anime you know...

You certainly won't find much normalcy in ANY western online spaces.

Yeah, the protagonist buying so many slaves makes for a good filter to keep normies away.

I sit back and think he really was right sometimes lol
If you like a piece of media just enjoy it, don't make it part of your identity.
Why are you interested in fandoms?
Why do you feel the need to add an entire social element to your entertainment beyond the product itself? A need to consume product beyond just the media itself?
I think you'll fine the answers you come up with indicative of a lot of issues bigger than just the trash that is woke weebs.
