the ruling is not surprising, what is surprising is that it was a unanimous ruling. I never would have expected in a billion years that Sotomayor would have ruled in favor of Trump.

Only the part that states can't remove a candidate over "insurrection" was unanimous.

Amy Barrett thinks going beyond what states can do would make politics too hot (what a wuss).

Sotomayor, Kagan, Katanji say that the Federal Government can still remove Trump from ballots if it wants to without any new legislation (only states can't do it). Hoping that Merrick Garland will save them from the bad man.

They don’t want red state to start doing to same for a planted candidate (like Joe and Kamala.) They can hide behind state representation if they can ban it on a Federal level.

The "always side with leftists" judges are okay with it because they know the largest voter fraud organization ever assembled will continue to do their job. Removing Trump from ballots therefore would prevent the opportunity to humiliate him again in a rigged contest.

Also, they have to keep the false choice political dichotomy going for as long as possible. If the people get too uppity, it will crumble the house of cards.

The more obvious the "fortification" gets, the more likely people are to start getting uppity about it.

The justices think he'll "lose" anyway (or be removed through some other legal action) so what's the harm in letting him play for now. This makes them look fair.

I'm more surprised KBJ ruled in favor of Trump

If you read the opinion, the commies bitched about it still being too far for the case before scotus.

They're just trying to avoid second and third order effects.

The states removing Trump from the ballot advanced the theory that he need not be convicted of a crime, if they felt that the evidence met the criteria of the crime they could remove him on that basis alone.

That means other states could, for example, remove Joe Biden from the ballot for taking money from the Chinese simply by asserting that they felt there is enough evidence that it happened. Repeat ad infinitum for both sides for every candidate they don't like, forever.

It wasn't that they cared about Trump, so much as they probably recognized that the ramifications of the opposite decision would be a complete breakdown in the American election system when state authorities begin to simply disqualify anyone they want from their ballot using simple accusations because they don't like their politics.

My expectations are so low that I wasn't sure if the liberal half of SCOTUS would consider second and third order effects.

All of them are puppets devoid of thought, it was the party bosses passing that one down. The DNC could be outlawed in thirty states bad they ruled otherwise.

I was calling this earlier when one of the states that removed him added him back. It was TOO MUCH of a risk to even vote for it knowing the conservatives would vote Trump onto the ballot as it would give too much power to the states away from the federal.

Them implying the federal can do it is them chewing on lemons right now knowing it would require the House AND the Senate to do that is too radioactive that even neocons wouldn't vote for it if they want to return to their districts alive.

I do expect this decision to shortly result in Harley finally pulling out as that was her only shot at winning, not having Trump on the ballot as they'll vote for him over her with Trump in prison than her.
