The Texas Military Department confirms the TX National Guard has seized control of Shelby Park in Eagle Pass (city property where mass illegal crossings are), and is restricting Border Patrol from accessing the area, saying the Feds “perpetuate illegal crossings”. (twitter.com)

Texas governor Greg Abbott is surprisingly squaring off against the Feds with this move.

2024 is shaping up to be a very wild year.

I didn't think Wheels had it in him. Regardless this is long overdue.

I didn't think he was capable of doing this either.

I am pleasantly surprised by this move.

I hope he stays firm and doesn't cuck out when the DOJ gets a rubber stamped judge order to stop this.

Texas must secure it's own border.

If they're serious, secession will be put up to the legislature.

As much as I'd love for that to happen, it's not necessary. Just ignore them. In the other comment you mention the feds attacking state troops but I doubt that will happen. This will go through the legal system where Abbot will have plenty more chances to cuck out and say "we tried".

The feds might abduct/arrest the Texas National Guard leadership. I hope the troopers are well-trained enough to know what to do.

I don't think that is likely.

Secession wouldn't pass in even the Texas State Senate and it is definitely not going anywhere in the Texas State House.

I think Texas can still stay in the Union while protecting its sovereign right to enforce border security.

Doesn't matter if it's likely. It's necessary.

If the feds attack state troops in order to explicitly prevent border enforcement, there really isn't any other choice.

if they do that, things will get SPICY.

As much as I'd be interested in seeing it happen, the feds aren't that dumb with all the false flags under their belts. The optics of "killing law enforcement who are doing the job the feds should be doing" looks bad if the feds want to act like the good guys. Even supposedly anti-cop cities are complaining about the illegals (unless they get enough of a kickback).

I know the feds really, really don't care about optics, but they know they won't win a fight against the populace without enough foreigners and illegals acting as a distraction.

I remember in 2015 the Texas GOP had a motion that failed to put secession on the ballot. Or was an attempt to do so

You will be disappointed then.

Most elected politicians in the Texas legislature have openly stated they are against secession.

This is not the avenue they will pursue.

Any and every day that we're not already lynching leftists is a day I'm disappointed. This probably won't be our Sumpter, but an escalation is good regardless.

I don't think secession is possible for now but certainly devolution of powers from the federal government should be in process.

Too many feds and glowey infiltrators inside the state to try to separate, get rid of them first and make yourself more independent so if you want to seperate you aren't fighting inside and out.

I disagree. The longer it takes until separation, the more infiltrators you're going to have.

Separation, consolidation, preparation, conflict. I'm that order.

I agree.

The current course of Western society can only be corrected through sudden and extreme methods (violent or nonviolent), and the more time that passes, the more extreme those changes are going to have to be.

At this point I don’t think our population has the guts to make the course correction.

I can't, for the life of me, understand the constitutional argument that Texas is violating federal law by defending IT'S border with Mexico.

To me, this would be like a cop arresting you for holding down a man a police officer just saw rob a bank. Except worse, because you don't have a duty to protect the bank. The state has a duty to protect it's border, and the feds are not only refusing to enforce the law, but explicitly preventing the National Guard from defending it's border.

If Canada invaded Minnesota, and the Minnesota National Guard started putting up road blocks, and then the USAF bombed those road-blocks because "National Defense is not the jurisdiction of Minnesota", it would be correctly understood to be a ceding of Minnesota to Canada, and a violation of the basic tenets of a Union at all.

Texas Rangers should start arresting Border patrol agents and charge them with human trafficking.

Neat.

Don't think they can actually do that, so this is just posturing, but neat.

Several states do. People forget that the States' have always been allowed to form their own militaries by both the 2nd Amendment and Article 1 of the constitution.

The Texas National Guard isn't the Texas Army, however. That is the Texas State Gaurd. These militaries are wholly administered, run, and led by the state government; and are not part of the US military; and can not be pulled into the US military in the event of an emergency.

Yes, you can have your own navy too.
