I know I need to play Fallout and my high school aged cousin keeps telling me to play New Vegas. I’ve also heard that the controls are similar to Skyrim so that is good. Apparently the main character is female. I guess in the game you create your own character like Skyrim. There was a time when a female lead wouldn’t have made me bat an eye but in the time we live now it’s a potential red flag. Also I heard the showrunner says he isn’t following the lore in the game or something. I would imagine more guys play Fallout, but that’s the same with Halo. I used to want an Elder Scrolls/Skyrim movie but now I hope they stay far away

True. Had no plans on watching. Wanted to check with those who are familiar with the game. Wheel of Time books had all the female representation you could ask for. I guess Prime thought otherwise
I feel like they could get 4 random people off this forum (or out of the phonebook) to run this show and get better results.
Well the first thing I’d do is do a deep dive into the games and read the lore
They wear their disinterest in the source material as a badge of pride.
Edit: pardon the word dump, Smith. I just kept going lol
One of the biggest red pills for me as an avid reader and movie watcher was the realization that “muh adaptation” is almost always used as a smokescreen to obscure the deliberate vandalism of the source material by resentful “creatives”.
The truth is most creatives are deeply arrogant and narcissistic people, and they resent being asked to simply adapt or expand on the beloved works of better writers and filmmakers.
Most Hollywood writers just want infinity dollars to work on their own pet projects (which no one seems to like for some reason). But Hollywood wants the safety net of a preexisting audience in order to lower risk, so the only gig in town is adaptations/sequels.
Leftist creatives view these gigs as opportunities to shove in as much of their own ideas and political/cultural agendas as possible. When someone calls them out for it, the writers then deploy the same predictable collection of canned excuses:
adapting for a different medium requires changes!
I wanted to update the story for modern audiences!
you don’t want to watch the exact same story again!
you are a bigot of some kind, and this content isn’t for you!
If not for the streaming model hiding so many failures and ESG bucks propping the whole thing up, woke entertainment would have collapsed almost immediately. Instead, it’s probably going to take decades for this shit to clear out.
No problem at all. With so many adaptations you they will say at least one of those things. Like you said, they just want to tear down what came before
It’s the same everywhere: if a space isn’t explicitly right wing, it will be quickly taken over by leftists who then proceed to remove all non-leftists. Leftists are entirely intolerant of dissent from their orthodoxy, and they practice an ideological nepotism that is absolute.
There is one demographic in particular - disproportionately represented in academia, finance, news media, entertainment, and government - who are particularly intolerant of any nationalist, Christian, or white identity views.
I knew it was going to be woke trash but it still boggles the mind. Making the MC female for a game series played 99% by men is insane.
I get a bad feeling that the writers did not read beyond the surface level details of the Fallout timeline. The trailer shows a lot of red flags. Watch Syntheticman's trailer review on YouTube. It's like 10 min, he points out the big issues.
They are going with Bethesda's saccharine world, rather than the more grimdark post apoc of Fallout 1 and 2. I know it's a really low bar, but I can see it being better than WoT or Rings of Power. I'm in no hurry to watch it though.
Calling it now:
-Plot will be woke girlboss concerned that the Vault climate control system is failing. None of the vault authorities listen to her specifically because she's a girl, ignoring she's a genius child prodigy or whatever. So she goes rogue to save the vault.
-girlboss MC will be an angry hectoring scold who yells and everyone with no charisma or charm, all viewers will hate her and journos will write shaming thinkpieces on how gamers are stupid pieces of shit for not watching..
-she solves easy problems with obvious solutions that any 5th grader could have figured out and gets hailed as the savior of the wasteland.
-the black guy is a brotherhood tech genius super smart hacker tech master and the brotherhood kicks him out for being too smart, he starts an interracial romance with the girlboss and they save the wasteland. Or he's gay, but otherwise the same.
-brotherhood will be openly fascist and prejudiced for no reason, they will invert the mission from saving technology to destroying it.
The B plot will be the plight of ghouls. How everything is just so unfair and prejudiced against them. Despite being around since before the bombs, they'll be negative culture. More soulful saints of their oppressed kind, than productive. The gun-slinging sheriff will be an exception, cause he's a white cowboy, ACAB trope. His ghoul oppression and lived experiences wont count because he is a chud.
Won't somebody think of the poor ghouls! Systemic life-ism is keeping them down.
Damn y'all aren't great at predictions
Welp, looks like you went 0 for 5 here
Wrong. 3.5/5
-climate plot-- nope. I was wrong
-Angry hectoring scold - yes. She's passive aggressive instead of angry, but still lectures people, and journos wrote exactly those articles.
-Solves easy problems and gets called a genius - yep
-black guy is super smart genius -- eh, I guess not. But he does get into interracial relationship with the girl. 1/2 point
-brotherhood fascist - big yep
Why don't you send me one of those articles calling people stupid pieces of shit for not watching.
Also I don’t really see her yelling at everyone or having zero charisma. I’d say you’re pretty far off.
I don’t see where the passive aggression is either. Can you give an example?
One kiss is a relationship? Damn man you need to get out
Wrong
What's one of those "easy" problems she solved?
I hate how corrupted entertainment is.
This is the first I'm hearing of a Fallout show, and all I feel is disappointment and anger. Same as what happened when I heard they were making a LotR show. And so many others on the list.
Yeah, hearing there's a Fallout show coming out should please and excite me...but we're not in that timeline, not by a longshot.
There is plenty of opportunity for woke in Fallout so they won't have to do much. The games are very political in nature. They will just pick the woke faction and make them good and the others are Literally Hitler.
They sometimes hide some of the worst aspects, or even wait for season 2.
There might be some enjoyment to be had here, miracles do happen. But I can practically guarantee it's going to be the same shit...eventually at the very least.
So unless a bunch of people I trust start saying how good it is...the Fallout show doesn't exist for me. There's just no point.
That's their typical MO. Hire actually talented writers to make something that everyone enjoys and lay the groundwork, then when it hits big the following seasons are filled with woke garbage as they bring in the diversity requirements.
Skyrim is my all time favorite game and I’m still playing modded Skyrim. I downloaded Oblivion.
They are using that stupid “assault rifle” from 4. Even before the synapses or trailers came out, I checked out. Damn thing looks like a blimp had sex with a train.
I asked my wife if she was interested in the Fallout show.
"The what show?"
"Fallout. It's a post apocalyptic sci-fi western."
"Nah"
"What if I told you the main character was a girl?"
"Still nah."
"Wow, such internalized misogyny."
Almost definitely.
My love for the 90's fallout franchise is too high to risk losing it to this series.
Fallout TV show is unlikely to succeed even without wokeness IMO.
One major aspect of the games is just exploring around and finding things, and doing what you want. Locking that in to film removes that whole aspect, so that cuts my interest.
But the main thing that a TV show will not do is the fact that most Fallout factions/societies have both plusses and minuses (discounting FO3, but at least Bethesda returned a bit to morally grey in The Pitt). Even The Master, for all his insanity, had a point about Super Mutants being better suited for surviving than humans (well, for the 10% or so who kept their minds afterwards). Even 10-20 years ago, Hollywood would probably not have been able to actually make morally gray factions, and I certainly don't expect them to do it now.
Add in modern wokeness, and it's going to be flat out awful.
For adaptations and huge brand expansions, always assume so, until the collective mass media openly admits to their insane hubris and apologizes (which may never come, so let them burn).
I’ve never played Halo but when I saw the trailer focus on diverse women first then I could see where that was headed
Which is insane. Put in master chief, tell teh story of the game and add a sexy Cortana and you instantly have a hit
Hell, they literally took the "strong-willed authoritative woman" of the series and ruined her too.
Halsey would not be screaming for John as he threatens to gas her in a sealed room. She would stand at that door, and stare him in the eye, with only a soft-spoken reprimand at most.
I was looking at a breakdown of the trailer and I understand that is not lore accurate but I admit I've not thought much of the lore of Fallout.
I've played 1,2 and then New Vegas, I also played the third one but not that much What I did not like in the trailer is that there is a ghoul and is not horribly looking. The entire point of ghouls was that they look like disgusting monsters but you would have to treat them as humans. They can also go feral and destroy settlements.
I wish the movie would touch on that but I'm willing to bet that it will be ghouls are the best, most noble ever and some rich white humans are senselessly discriminating against them.
They're all super friendly until a glowing one shows up.
"Put a chick in it. Make her lame... and make her gay".
That's really all you need to know. Expect the typical people who still haven't learned their lesson to defend it until the show launches and then they get smacked in the face with woke nonsense.
We've been through this rodeo so many times now you can literally predict these things before it even happens. I was only aware of this show thanks to Synthetic Man... if you haven't, you can see his video here where he gives an excellent prediction of what this show will be like and he has been 100% on his predictions of woke nonsense: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tse0R0YJS1U&pp=ygUNc3ludGhldGljIG1hbg%3D%3D
Thanks!
You predicted wrong tho
I feel like a Space Marine pushed a power armoured soldier into the fire with this show screaming "Take him"
I'll be honest, I don't know how this'll go, As the trailer shows they put A LOT of money and effort into set design so it looks the part.
It also seems like a disjointed story where part will focus on the female Vault dweller leaving, the Brotherhood of Steel and possibly another angle.
Her saying she 'lived a privileged life' works IF she lived in the one of the control vaults as they were excellent compared to being nuked or experimented on. So really I don't know, Amazon is a schizo in terms of what they make as this might be next week and I'm REALLY looking forward to it
I need to watch Reacher. I have some of the books but haven’t read them yet
At least give the fuckers a chance to disappoint you. Show aint even out yet and everyone's decided it's going to be gay furries of the apocalypse fighting the Trump fascist nazis of the BoS.
No. Even if we weren't up to our eyeballs in woke corruption, the chance that this would actually be good would be miniscule, just like all game adaptations. And Amazon has long proven to be among those who hate us and want us dead.
Have you read those books? I have some Reacher books but haven’t read any yet. I’ll definitely read Terminal List when I get a chance
I’m f I hear good things I’ll watch but I want to play at least one of the games first
Probably fallout 4 is the most approachable, but the first one is iconic and started the franchise.
Yep, just play Fallout 1 and 2, they are the best ones.
