Other than my gf occasionally watching a regional college football game, I don't even know anything. I found out about the Deion Sanders deal from 60 minutes.
I’ve never seen much CFL because they don’t show it much in Texas. I guess I could check it out on YouTube. I know Warren Moon won like 5 Grey Cups before coming to the NFL. Flutir too right?
I guess? I don't fuss over individual players myself, I just like to watch it with my husband; this is the first year he's had to actually enjoy a whole season of it. And my team kind of sucks this year (but at least it isn't Edmonton, who just stink up whatever field they walk onto this season), though mostly my support boils down to "anyone but Toronto".
But I guarantee the Grey Cup is gonna have better music than the Superbowl this year, at least. ;)
And yeah, there's a lot of cross-feed between CFL and NFL, I've heard some American players prefer CFL even if it isn't as much money or glory (and there does seem to be a lot of Americans playing, but fair enough, a lot of our kids want to aim straight for NFL, I'm sure.)
I haven’t really followed basketball since Jordan retired. I will root for Mavs if they are in playoffs but only watch if someone is having a watch party or I’m at a restaurant
No problem. In high school my dad got a job in the DC area (Northern VA) so my last two years were up there. I watched the Orioles a lot. Ripken has always been one of my favorite players along with Griffey Jr. I bought a Ripken rookie card not too long ago. Orioles will be a tough team in the playoffs. My Rangers barely made it in
If her daddy wasn't in major Finance and they hadn't moved to the Heart of Country Music where she magically got gigs with session musicians, then yeah, she wouldn't have been the Trojan horse she is.
When she appeared on the scene in the mid-late 00s, it was obvious to people who understood the industry that she was targeted crap. First for execs to try and disrupt the country music scene (country was beginning it's death spiral anyway), then to pivot into a feminist pop star (which she succeeded in doing).
The most recent bullshit from her before this NFL thing was that, since she didn't own the rights to her recordings (boo fucking hoo), she went and rerecorded a bunch of her albums, released them last year, and by golly looks like they sold like hotcakes because grrrlpower (I only know this because the places where I buy music were showing her at the top for sales last year). Swift got to do what almost any artist never has the time or money (or care) to do, but because she had the resources, got patted on the back for being a AWFL fighting back against the ebul music industry.
I know it's evil, it's just that Swift's case was used as a means of acting like she overcame it all herself, a victory for wimminz, even though she already had a leg up over most other musicians that ever tried.
Any artist in pop, rock or major genre where big money is involved is guaranteed to get royally fucked in the industry. Niche genres along with metal and indie I'm not sure, maybe even small time groups have similar issues. Although the industry has given us good music, it pushes a lot of garbage (moreso in the past 25 years)
Thinking of Trojan horse. I remember on /b/ about 15 years ago there was Taylor Swift hype that she was a /b/tard. Whether she put up a real pic or it was shopped, there was a push that she was 'one of us'.
Don't know what it means, just saying that's how I remember it.
She was on the music board iirc. She wasn't involved in politics until what, 2018 saying don't vote republican in Tennessee. It seemed to line up with a lull in her career and I figured she was told to become political or lose her career.
She has a rather devoted fanbase and is one of the most popular musicians on the planet, ever.
Is this true though? Or are they merely telling us that to socially pressure it into reality? Because when it comes to "almost entirely female" fanbases like hers that's how they operate. They tell you how big they are until you just believe they are and are forced to participate to feel part of a social trend.
Especially as, relative to many other "most popular ever" names, her actual production and cultural footprint is minimally felt to anyone. If the media didn't write about her every other breath and minuscule detail you would forget she exists, whereas Michael Jackson was still dropping music that everyone was listening to even outside his fanbase and personal life.

Exactly this. I do not care about Taylor and I don't hear a lot of her music in public. I got one of her albums a while ago and while it was ok, nothing stuck. It's like her looks, there's nothing that stands out as obviously bad, but she's not a stunner no matter how much praise she gets. Her legs are just long and thin, big deal.
The entire persona of Taylor Swift as a precocious 16-year old who wrote her own way to fame is a relic of legacy media anyway when people were credulous enough about show business to believe that BS.
People with limited or poor taste tend to latch onto the same musical artists that were popular and appealed to their sensibilities when they were in their teens or early 20's, and seem to stick with them for ages, rarely expanding their horizons beyond that.
Might be more of a thing with women in particular too, but I'm not positive.
Most people can at least give you some plot beats of Avatar though. Its not a quotable detailed account, but we all know its Pocahontas with aliens. There is a dude who uploads himself into a blue body, they have Tree USBs, and he betrays everyone.
Avatar 2 though, fuck man I still don't even know if that existed.
A better comparison would be Cindy Lauper or Madonna back in those days, but I sure don't remember them hanging out at football games. Superbowl, yes, but not regular season.
They made a big deal about Tony Romo dating Jessica Simpson back in the day, but she wasn't half as famous as Swift so I doubt it was as bad as this (would have to still watch National Faggot League to know).
For some reason I never liked Taylor Swift even from when I heard her name for the first time. Her name screamed typical millennial woman who got only famous because she wasn't bad-looking. And surprise surprise, she was exactly what I expected her to be, shallow cunt who coasted her life on easy mode.
Yes, that may be true but look at Kelly Osbourne. She had a very famous father as a rockstar and I don't think she never particularly pulled disastrous PR while she was fairly well-known. Yet she vanished from the spotlight after one song because music industry didn't see the worth in promoting her.
Heard she is being paid to be a big anti-Trump influencer. So expect to see a lot more of her over the next 13 months.
Oh, and stop watching sportsball. They hate you, return the sentiment
She's an unmarried childless white woman in her mid to late 30s. There's no chance she isn't a permanent Democrat.
Other than my gf occasionally watching a regional college football game, I don't even know anything. I found out about the Deion Sanders deal from 60 minutes.
I fear she is poisoning the minds of a lot of young people
Show business is very contrived. All of these people have handlers and marketers managing their fake & gay public images.
Yup. She gets so much attention but she is just another left wing celebrity who spouts the current day platitudes. They are a dime a dozen.
By the way who is your favorite football team? Mine is the Cowboys. Baseball the Rangers and Hockey the Stars. I’m sure you can detect a pattern lol
Grey Cup > Superbowl

Green Day
I haven’t watched Korean baseball yet but Japanese baseball is great. I remember an anime about a baseball team that was really good
3 consistently championship-winning-or-contender Texas NBA teams and no love there?
(disclaimer: I haven't watched in like 7 seasons; quit during the 2016-2017 season after Popovich went on an Orange Hitler rant.)
I haven’t really followed basketball since Jordan retired. I will root for Mavs if they are in playoffs but only watch if someone is having a watch party or I’m at a restaurant

Ha! Same for the O’s.

The music industry is evil, and if you think otherwise because shitty people like Swift also have problems with it, you've been tricked.

I think it is safe to say she is not based, but has an excellent marketing team.

The meme of her face with the caption "Somewhere a Cracker Barrel is missing a hostess" expressed my opinion of her quite well.
Sportsball is fucking gay. Nothing but a bunch of overpaid niggers playing grab ass for several hours.
Its a marketing campaign to get more female viewers. It was funny to joke about last night with the family I will say.
No one in general, aside from her usual long-time loser-fans, gives a shit about Taylor Swift, and hasn't for at least a decade.
