Just have black people shoot them. The more ghetto-looking, the better. The cops'll let it slide then.

I'm thinking glass beer bottles are going to be flying around all over the place if one shows up.

Beer bottles? Real men slay drones with javelins.

Get a cheap drone of your own, hang some wire on it. Fly over their drone and laugh.

Who could have guessed the greatest weapon against flying beasts is a literal piece of wire.

Kaz Daughtry, the assistant NYPD Commissioner made the announcement during a security briefing on J’ouvert, an annual Caribbean festival.

Those attending outdoor parties or barbecues in New York City this weekend may notice an uninvited guest looming over their festivities: a police surveillance drone.

The New York City police department plans to pilot the unmanned aircrafts in response to complaints about large gatherings, including private events, over Labor Day weekend, officials announced Thursday.

“If a caller states there’s a large crowd, a large party in a backyard, we’re going to be utilizing our assets to go up and go check on the party,” Kaz Daughtry, the assistant NYPD Commissioner, said at a press conference.

WTH, you can't have a barbecue party in NYC?

Nothing a 12 gauge and some bird shot can't take care of.

Would another drone dropping something, eg a bit of material onto a drone's propellers, hypothetically be the best/simplest way to bring one down?

A drone with lift and drop capacity - several hundred dollars or several thousand. A drone with a puece of tape dangling from it - caught with the target.

An overpowered airsoft gun, or an air rifle? Reusable, harder to spot, low costs post investment.

Could a laser pen or infrared light damage its camera and make safe landing impossible?

People here are really overestimating how easy it would be to target these things.

Someone brought a cheap drone to a cabin we rented this summer.

Even knowing the drone was airborne and it being very rural, it was still very hard to keep visual with the naked eye.

It was actually easier to track it by the whirring humming sound the rotors produced. But I suspect the city din would similarly blur this as well.

Yeah, in the Ukraine conflict, on both sides, a drone over you can mean death. Either directly from a grenade drop or indirectly from artillery spotting. So the motivation to spot them is very high, and people still miss them. And that's mostly out in the country side.

It's just not that easy to spot something flying around 1000ft above you.

Damn, that's too bad. Beam origination isn't a big obstacle, but I hadn't thought about the return home protocol. The motors or propellers would probably need to be damaged then.

Can you jam the signal going to and directing the drone? It's just radio, right?

Probably just easier to throw something at it.

The amount of laser power you'd need to permanently disable a camera at drone height, say 200-400ft, is significant. And you'd probably want it connected to a pan and tilt system to keep the beam steady, plus optical tracking to keep it focused on the target. It's possible but you'd basically be making a DIY SHORAD system.

Just find the signal and use it to control the drone to your house. Then you have a free drone.

I wonder if it will be radio or cellular control? Local or long distance? These differences mark how to find the right signal.

Given that we're in real life and not a movie, hacking something like this would be a significant undertaking requiring specialized skills. The sort of person with those skills would not be going to parties.

They're surprisingly easy to hack. Also, it just takes one person to spread the information.

Amazing that no one has spread this easy hack info to either the russians or ukrainians yet. Or maybe they both know the super easy methods and just take turns with all the drones.

The kind of drones that the police get can't possibly be easy to hack.

These aren't the drones used by the military that carry armaments and stuff. It's made by a private business. I have a friend that worked for one of those companies in Cour D'Alene. He actually said it was easier to hack them than do the proper connection. So, I'd say it's easier than said by people who specifically don't want you to know that while looking scary.

They're probably marked with a specific serial number, probably have a very distinct paint job, and probably have a GPS tracker imbedded inside. They'd be able to track it down.

Let them have it then. Would be a shame if it activated in the precinct though.

Just prepping for the next COVID tyranny. While these drones are hovering over your yard, judging you on your BBQ party, BLM and Antifa will be activated to set fire to shit once again while the police ignore them (or protect them from racist shop-owners defending their property)

What's the cheapest drone you can buy? I imagine going full kamikaze would actually work, those props look exposed and fragile.

There are drones with cameras that start at 40 bucks. I saw drones for 100+ bucks that also have kilometers in range.

Otherwise there are special shotgun rounds that fire nets for that
