Oppenheimer’ Sacred Text Reading Sex Scene Raises Hackles in India: ‘This is a Direct Assault on Religious Beliefs of a Billion Tolerant Hindus’ (archive.ph)

“It has come to our notice that the movie ‘Oppenheimer’ contains a scene which make a scathing attack on Hinduism. As per social media reports, a scene in the movie shows a woman makes a man read Bhagwad Geeta aloud while getting over him and doing sexual intercourse. She is holding Bhagwad Geeta in one hand, and the other hands seems to be adjusting the position of their reproductive organs. The Bhagwad Geeta is one of the most revered scriptures of Hinduism. Geeta has been the inspiration for countless sanyasis, brahmcharis and legends who live a life of self-control and perform selfless noble deeds. We do not know the motivation and logic behind this unnecessary scene on life of a scientist. But this is a direct assault on religious beliefs of a billion tolerant Hindus, rather it amounts to waging a war on the Hindu community and almost appears to be part of a larger conspiracy by anti-Hindu forces.”

The letter goes on to say that Hollywood “is very sensitive about the fact that Quran and Islam is not depicted in any manner that may offend the value system of a common Muslim, even if you make something based on Islamist terrorism,” and asks, “Why should not the same courtesy be also extended to Hindus?”

Brown people mad they got a smidgen of the disrespect that Hollywood has done with Christianity for decades

They're certainly correct that Pedowood treats the goat fuckers with kid gloves that no one else gets. The real issue is Pedowood only produces degenerate trash, but I doubt that the pajeets would be whining if say, the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence got their own movie.

Should they? Why is that their problem? I certainly don't give two shits if Hollywood disrespects goat fucker religion or the street shitter's deformed elephant religion.

Yea that’s pretty mild compared to all the insults to Christianity

Haha i knew this wasn’t worth watching once Iron Man showed up, but this cringe just seals it. Did they really tease out a 20 second spooky interview clip in to a 2+ hour movie!?!

Yes. He was a scholar, not merely a physicist. That's a line from the Gita, I believe.

Those who play with the devil's toys will be brought by degrees to wield his sword.

Thomas Fuller

Not that Buckminster Fuller, apparently.

No actual Hindu who takes the worldview seriously would complain in this way, in fact, probably would not complain at all. Films and politics are Maya. Now that I think on it a might, there's no better illustration of Maya than a motion picture.

And when did editors begin spelling "Bhagavad Gita" as "Bagwhad Geeta"?

Clearly those offended are nominally Hindu much like the Cafeteria Catholic--superficial involvement out of social convention with no real insight.

I'm not really well-versed enough in Hinduism to agree or disagree with your interpretation of their scripture.

But I do live in a country with a very substantial South Asian minority, and I can tell you that Indians and South Asians generally have a substantial cultural predisposition towards emotionally overwrought, performative reactions to perceived slights or insults, and towards weaponizing any victimization narrative they can get their hands on.

I'm not sure if the same is true in India itself or if maybe the monumental sense of entitlement is unique to the higher-caste emigrants who are rich enough to leave, but I've seen enough of it here to be willing to call it a pattern.

I’ve lived in India. Believe me, it’s the same over there…

Entitlement and higher caste Hinduism very much go hand in hand…

In fact, from what I saw of Buddhism in India as well, it is more culturally widespread than just their bloody “household gods on steroids” majority religion… 🤷🏻‍♂️

That's not actually an observation in disagreement, since you are describing a group behavior and Old Bull is describing a religious ideal. It is entirely likely that these groups wear their religiosity like some might wear a race or a sexuality for the perceived advantage, without caring otherwise.

You think that's bad. Try telling a Mexican street peddler "no."

I'm more offended that the scene seemed completely abrupt and unnecessary. They couldn't allot some of the movie's three hour runtime to building up their relationship beyond a momentary social standoff. It wasn't even good tension building.

"tolerant Hindus", what a joke. When somebody makes a trash woke movie I vote with my wallet and don´t watch it but I don´t ask for anybody to ban it.

Never forget what Hindus did to Smite.

The goddess Kali was depicted very accurately...and then Hindus raised a ruckus, saying it was blasphemous or something to depict her like such, and the devs caved, making her LESS ACCURATE to her mythology.

I'm still pissed about that.

Imagine Christians being angry about King David's inclusion in Fate/Grand Order. I thought it was great he was in there!

Speaking as a born-again Christian myself:

Man, I've never played a Shin Megami Tensei game, but I'm...surprised. I wonder what the writers' deal was. I got miffed at Rick and Morty for doing the same to what was also explicitly stated to be the Christian God, so I'd be a hypocrite if I said I didn't have a problem with that.

Hopefully it was just the one game and not a running theme, like I heard was done with Xenogears.

This is coming from someone who adores Evangelion. No joke, I saw it for the first time recently and LOVED it. I'll see the Rebuild movies soon.

Ruth Tolman, a BPD communist whore who has an affair with Oppenheimer and for some insane reason he has feelings for her.

I actually saw the movie and I think it's worth pirating, it got me entertained. I hated most of the characters, yes, but they were meant to be unlikable. The biggest problem I had was with Robert Downey Jr., because I felt like he was just playing Tony Stark, he used the same weird mannerisms and the same weird sort of diction that he did in the Marvel movies. But, hell, he was supposed to be an asshole in the movie, basically the main antagonist, so it worked out.
