In recent years one of the worst game journalism examples I saw was Far Cry 5 getting downgraded because it didn’t push the message they wanted. There job is to review the game! Also I remember that Wolfenstein game getting good reviews simply for the usual message about white supremacy or something
Hence why farcry 6 got glowing reviews because Muh female MC and was a market flop for the exact same reason.

I don't understand it. I'd kill for a gig where I played games all day and gave my opinions on them. How do these people who actively dislike games keep getting the jobs?
Regulatory capture works the same way.
Even ignoring the political angle, the problem is they just aren't good at video games. Which means they get constantly frustrated playing and just end up not having any fun. A problem I think most of us can relate to somewhat from some bullshit game in our past that didn't jive with us or was made to be unfair.
But skill in the game is completely irrelevant to the networking, which is how 99% of them get their job. That's how most people get jobs honestly, but most jobs you can also learn on the job itself. Games can't really be taught, you just have to be or git gud. So when they realize they talked themselves into a trap, they instead blame the industry or the audience for their trouble.
Because they want the political opinion columns but nepotism can only get you so far, specially when you lack any kind of real insight
thankfully these people are reviewing games and not designing bridges or building houses to code. Instead they can write State propaganda masquerading as "gaming journalism". That's useful to our nation, our society.....? I wish they'd just write accurate game reviews and be a tiny bit useful.

Steam reviews for me. I wouldn't buy a game without Mostly Positive or Overwhelmingly Positive reviews.

Nah, it was a pretty standard """immersive sim""". The start is a little harder than average, but once you get the shotgun and some semi-regular ammo for it, it becomes ridiculously easy, balancing it out to be a pretty standard affair.
And even then the start isn't that hard either, it's just more focused on the stealth aspects before you can start running and gunning everything you come across.
