Even ignoring the political angle, the problem is they just aren't good at video games. Which means they get constantly frustrated playing and just end up not having any fun. A problem I think most of us can relate to somewhat from some bullshit game in our past that didn't jive with us or was made to be unfair.
But skill in the game is completely irrelevant to the networking, which is how 99% of them get their job. That's how most people get jobs honestly, but most jobs you can also learn on the job itself. Games can't really be taught, you just have to be or git gud. So when they realize they talked themselves into a trap, they instead blame the industry or the audience for their trouble.
