I don’t want them to have the personalities these shallow hollywood faggots are gonna inject into these beloved characters. Mario and co. already have just as much personality as they need, it wouldn’t have endured so long as a franchise if they didn’t.

Going to disagree with both you and Hollywood there. Mario has no personality, nor should he. He's the generic everyman protagonist he ought to be, just like Link or Samus. I don't want Mario to be anything but a vehicle for a fun game.

Luigi, on the other hand, is steeped in personality despite speaking a total of maybe five words throughout the entire game series. But his personality comes from actions, not words. He shouldn't even have lines. Except, perhaps, for "Maaaarioooo!".

Luigi has enough personality that the unnecessarily good Rabbid spinoff has half his moves be references and memes based around his history. Whereas Mario by comparison has his own game mechanics his moves.

Mario has personality, about as much personality as Mickey Mouse, which is just as much as he needs which is what my point was.

You're thinking of Master Chief or Gordon Freeman, at least initially. All of these characters end up having massive backstory and personality after being loved characters for decades.

The best example you have is "Commander Shepard", which literally can't be isolated down, because the story arc of this character is too divergent per person.

I'd rather watch a japanese version, if that had been the original language. They care about voice acting way more.

There's nothing with less personality (or soul) than a Hollywood actor. All they do is play themselves endlessly in everything they star in, and that's when they're simply not phoning it in. Even when they just do voice acting, they still only play themselves. Aladdin and Shrek have proven to be fatal mistakes for animation as a whole for popularizing the concept of celebrity voice actors.

Also, this is how you can tell this guy has never played a video game, let alone a Mario game, in his life. Not to mention his defense doesn't invalidate the criticism of celebrity voice actors because any competent voice actor can inject personality into a character that doesn't have one. But said character also needs a good writer to bring them to life. Celebrities don't automatically do that.

You think every actor is Chris Rock?

Are you the guy who posted about confusing Chris Rock and Christ Tucker today?

No, that was someone else.

I was talking about when Chris Rock threw the entire art of voiceover under the bus at the 2012 Oscars, drawing the ire of Tara Strong (yes, I know) and Maurice LaMarche.

And then he did it again on the Graham Norton Show.

I've hated him ever since.

We got enough personality that hearing Starlord voice him ruins the entire movie. So, no, asshole, we don't need some hollywood cunt destroying yet another beloved franchise.

I can only imagine what we would have gotten if Henry Cavill's big tits hadn't been Geralt of Rivia.

no personality?! bullshit! lets start with mario, he does have personality you gotta look past the main games though, lets look at mario's game gallery he enjoys playing games with people and is shown to be polite if a bit impatient even when loosing not much changes. he is depected as a bit goofy in the mario superstar series but not an oaf and the times he does clown a bit it sometimes proves usefull like the times he drinks too much water and thats actually needed to pass some obsticals, thoughout the main games hes proven to be quite the determinator burns, stabs, even freaking magic only slows him down as long as hes got 1-ups he will keep trying stoping only when he physicaly can't anymore even then he;s not invincable hes been captured a few times like mario is missing or even the luigi's mansion series. so tell me again no personality, just because mario doesnt talk usually doesnt mean he has no personality,

now then lets look at bowser, a boastful somewhat arrogent king of the koopa's who for some reason wants peach. he's been shown to be very physicaly minded and short tempered. if an obstical is in his way he's likely to dislodge it by force, often times he misjudges situations and is shown to not be the brightest leading to times where he gets in trouble as a result, look at bowsers inside story where he gets fattened up or even the earlier mario series where you gotta jump over him to get the axe to send im down or even get him to break the floor to fall to his doom.. yet there are times bowser has had strokes of genius or just plain luck, like the time he kidnapped mario. annother thing hes not a complete bruiser, though not often shown the koopa king is capable of magic. despite his status as antaganist he is shown to not be pure evil (usually), as even he doesnt want to destroy the world normaly as there would be nothing left rule, and if we put bowser jr in the picture it shows a softer side of him at times, perhaps hinting some of his prior persona is a bit played up for some reason psych himself up maybe?

now then lets look at peach, miss toadstool isnt just a blitzed out of their mind cake despenser even though she does enjoy cooking and is shown to be quite capable when not used as a kiddnaping plot device shes not completly stupid/airheaded but rather the vibe i get from her is far too trusting instead and even when she is kidnapped she still manages to be helpful to mario in his quest at times and is shown to be cunning and make the best of a situation like the time she humored bowser jr in sunshine or in super princess peach shown to exploit the effects of the vibe sceptor and her own emotions and is shown in that game to be able to beat bowser with them once again showing her rescourcefullness as she took a powerset that rightfully could be veiwed as one big joke and again beat bowser and his goons

sorry about the rant,

I’m just mad they gave Donkey Kong a voice (and Seth Rogen’s voice at that.) He should never have an actual voice damnit! Grunts and growls, that’s it!

"Hoo-hoo, hoo-HAH-HAH!" That's all Donkey Kong should be saying. In fact, that's all Seth Rogan should ever say. It's more intelligent than whatever else comes out of his mouth and he looks like an ape as it is.

He ain't that wrong.

Mario games never were about deep character development.

I think the most it ever got there was that Nintendo Power comic, Super Mario Adventures, from 1993-ish. That one was awesome--and it was rumored this movie would be an adaptation of that, but they didn't go that route.

I’m assuming by “personality” he means awful, Marvel style humor crossed with some maudlin Pixar faggotry.

Nintendo chose Illumination because they were the only studio that would let Nintendo keep creative control.

Luigi's Mansion 1-3 gave him a solid amount of personality, much more so than probably every other main character.

Heck the Paper Mario series gave everyone sans Mario a solid amount that is hasn't been contradicted by anything enough to not count.

Paper Mario TTYD he never even speaks and he has more personality than any shitty modern AAA protagonist from the last five years.

I've not played that one, only the original, which alone managed to have more charm and personality than most JRPG casts.

I've heard great things. Just missed at the time and never got around to going back.

Though being better than Mario+Rabbids is a high bar, which is still an uncomfortable sentence to be typing unironically.

There is no good for gamers whatsoever comming from shoving holywood actors into videogames. It's to infiltrate and subvert another market further to win back lost entertainment market shares and cultural influence.

Bonus inflating the price to infinity.
