Unironically... Bring back the Lingerie League.

It was genuinely fairly skilled, at times, had good crowds and viewing figures, and the women enjoyed playing it…

Quite literally, it both was successful internationally, and made the careers of a number of women who have gone on to play other contact sports.

Only ruined by “third wave intersectional feminism”, and fucking ugly leftist prudes who argued it “devalued” the women who voluntarily participated.

Like cheerleading. Or podium girls. Or grid girls. Or “girly magazines” (lol). Or stripping/sex work (more dubiously). Or Playboy. Or being a housewife. Or a lingerie model. Or a “page 5 girl” (England)/centerfold girl (elsewhere). Or fucking any number of other things that women voluntarily chose to do/take part in, until “current year” decided they didn’t even fucking get to choose to do so anymore… 🙄

Seriously. Everyone (at the time) who wasn’t an activist loved that shit. Bring it back. I would even actually voluntarily watch that shit…

Also RIP Jacinda Barclay. I unironically do not think she would be dead, now, if shit like killing the Lingerie League had not happened…

Suicide, for those curious.

We don't need to encourage or allow an avenue for whores. We especially shouldn't be paying them to be whores and they shouldn't fucking enjoy being whores. We need to make being a slut a hellish existence that women would rather die than endure.

Honestly, all you need to do is not give them your money or attention, and that would solve the problem.

Men don't want women to be whores? Then stop being a thirsty simp.

Whores exist because there is demand for whores.

You can't just expect all men to simultaneously stop pursuing women.

permalink parent save report block reply

Pursuing women is one thing. Throwing money and attention at half-naked women whoring themselves out for attention is something else.

You can't say we should hold women to a higher standard while also claiming it's impossible to hold men to an equally high standard.

Ironically, Valley Christian scrimmaged against Cuyama High last year, which apparently went smoothly until the female player took off her helmet at the end of the game.

“Upon seeing her gender, the observers, coaches and administrators of Valley Christian glared at (the player) while shaking their heads in disbelief,” according to a court filing.

I'll take "things that didn't happen for $500".

It's not that they couldn't have mistaken the girl for a boy, it's that the "helmet reveal" is Hollywood cliche that's based on how well it works on camera, not reality.

Entirely plausable. Like she got passed to maybe twice in clear "Heave it or sack it" moments and people kinda felt bad that she got leveled by a backer while just standing there. And then it's like "Holy shit never again." Like my team knew this one kid who went on to play P5 football as a "Don't punt it to him cause he'd house it" after one play in a 24-17 rumbler that we lost, "Don't even allow the girl to get mauled by some Bavarian unit destined for Washington" for her.

That’s an awfully vague and lightweight excuse in an time when more and more women are participating in traditionally male-only work, including fighting alongside men in the military.

As long as there's air conditioning or the opportunity to siphon tax dollars by getting pregnant, women are there!

I… Wouldn’t poke that bear, if I were you…

Beside the response I suspect you will get (here), the history of women’s “football” in the US is… Weird, as another Aussie…

So, while I agree with you (though we’re beginning to see a bit of a merger, here, too - see the case of the woman in country SANFL, and mixed gender relays and teams in a whole bunch of “individual” sports), this just doesn’t seem to… Fly, with Americans, and with some of their sports…

It’s a rather jarring thing, but I genuinely see that as a bit of a… “Cultural difference”, let’s say, between our country and theirs, at the moment…

But that’s just my ten cents.

It is (at the elite level). Swimming, aths, diving, equestrian, dressage, (track and road) cycling, sailing (as of 2024) and obviously motor sport are all sort of… On the verge of merging, not in the sense of “men and women compete against each other directly, individually” (for half of those they do), but in the sense that… Well it’s sort of like the girl in this Gridiron team - it’s one team, with both men and women in it…

But at the amateur/rural level? Mixed teams are pretty ubiquitous in all non-contact sports, and that woman in the SANFL was a test case where I suspect we will eventually see women “making up the numbers” in some positions in local, rural teams, at least in Aussie Rules…

As long as they can actually play ok, don’t get injured too easily, and don’t play the sex card/try to sue the league if and when they do, I am unironically ok with that…

I’ve played water polo (contact), netball (yeah yeah), basketball, friggin touch rugby and ultimate frisbee with women as an adult. Amateur, obviously. It was really no biggy. We were just happy to have a full team!!

Women’s sports in the US are viewed with a contempt, at least on the internet, that they simply are not, in Australia…

I’m just not sure you would “get it”, unless you’ve lived here, or NZ, or a few other places (Brazil, Spain, Japan)…

It’s just… A whole other world, over here, in that regard.

We have full female leagues over here, for all our major sports, and, for the most part, they’re actually pretty decent.

We’re sort of… About a decade “ahead” of the US, in this regard (soccer and basketball are somewhat different, but even here, they’re just… Seen a bit differently).

I’m not necessarily saying that’s a “good” thing, but it is really, really noticeable, as an Aussie…

Not just the US. Though I would not call it contempt, just disinterest. The media keeps shoving it down our throats, but really, no one cares. Not even women want to watch women play football (soccer) rather than men, as folks who lose to 15-year-old boys 7-0 aren't very entertaining to watch.

We have full female leagues over here, for all our major sports, and, for the most part, they’re actually pretty decent.

Unless they play against 15-year-old boys. I mean, through no fault of their own, of course. There's just biological differences.

I think the difference is that in the US our mens leagues, at least in everything but soccer or like Sumo, are like literally the best in the world. Mens vs woman’s basketball here is a ridiculous comparison here whereas the gulf between the quality of the Australian National basketball league and the girls Aussie league probably isn’t as vast. If both options have a like veneer of amateurism then it’s easier to interchange imo, and less offensive when the local activist sports writers try to gaslight us into seeing them similarly.

Yeah, you may be right.

This is like the AFLW in Aus (activist central), or, similarly, our women’s national soccer team…

The rugby league, union, basketball and netball women have almost none of those issues, though, lol…

Oh, except Liz Cambage. But she’s just a fucking garbage dumpster fire of a human being. Like Rapinoe, but absurdly racist, instead of a queer, lol…

Same narcissism though, I grant you that.

But yeah, women’s sports are massive, in Australia, at the present moment. At least in the media. Like, absurdly, I can’t even verbalize how absolutely everywhere it is…

Also para sports. I’m just not sure it’s quite at the same “level” for you guys…

But part of that is just because Australians, myself included, are fucking obsessed with sports, more broadly, lol…

But yeah, for context: I would say there is solidly… 12-14 hours a week, of womens sport, on network TV in Aus, right at the moment (excluding the US Open and the cycling)..?

Compared to probably slightly more for mens, but the point still stands.

It’s a massive market here, dude.

He is right. I don’t have problems with female leagues but I think the push back is due to the constant pushing of activism when all people want is sports or with WNBA being told that we are bad people for not watching. But the recent college softball championships had good ratings

Full disclaimer: I’ve dated women who play sport at a fairly high level. Regularly…

Greatest chick I’ve ever met (long story. “Loved and lost”) is a women’s footy player, and a schoolteacher, so that… Probably goes against the trend, here.

Some of my friends have also been involved in women’s sport (yeah yeah)… Or, obviously, mixed.

My family is very involved in sport. Mostly women’s. Some men’s.

Sport is… A far bigger part of my life than it probably is for a lot of people, Australians or otherwise.

So… I’m not necessarily “unbiased”, here. But I did try to keep my comments as objective as possible, in that sense.

Some people really care about vidya, or movies. I really care about sport. Because politics is a fucking losing game, lol.

This is absolutely fucking retarded. They're getting sued for forfeiting games...by people affiliated with the teams they forfeited to.

They can forfeit for any reason. I personally think it's stupid that girls are playing football with the boys, but I'm also not going to be a hypocrite; I've always pointed out that "men's teams" are not male-only. If (big if) these girls can compete on merit (doubt), good for them. But I'm thinking this is some diversity push, and that sucks. I can also see how certain teams wouldn't want to face teams with girls on it.

It's sad. In a sane world, with consistently applied standards, any woman who made it onto the "men's team" wouldn't be a problem, since they made it there on merit. This would be rare-to-nonexistent, too, so wouldn't cause many problems for anyone who objected on their moral or religious grounds, either. But considering this is clownworld...maybe we do just need actual, explicitly male-only teams at this point. This current nonsense will hurt everyone; it hurts the integrity of the sport if standards are lowered for some players, it hurts people who don't want to fight girls on the field, and it will lead to girls getting potentially very seriously hurt as well.

If (big if) these girls can compete on merit (doubt), good for them

Yeah no, because

I can also see how certain teams wouldn't want to face teams with girls on it.

This is a bigger deal than you're saying. It's not just "certain teams" who might consider it an issue, but also individual players and entire communities. There are many young men--certainly the best men--who are raised not to hurt girls. Period. There's no exception in their upbringing. They might have to incapacitate a hysterical lady a time or two in their lifetime (which will be done with the minimum force necessary), but playing at brutality with actual brutal physical engagement is simply not on the table.

Any real complementarian community is going to have this as a bedrock value, and stick to it.

I played on a fairly good football in high-school. We were known for hitting hard and were encouraged to do so except the time we played against a team with a girl on it. Like we were ruthless to the point that normal play had resulted in multiple broken bones throughout the year. We got stickers for laying people flat. All that went out the window because a girl was on the other team. Still won handily but there's no reason to handicap boys athletics like that

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 4 ▼

Bones shouldn't be getting broken, that's costing the families of the players money to have fixed, it could be a life ruining cost for most.

Then do not play football. That is a risk you take if you do not have the size and muscle to play. Football is not patty cake. If you do not or cannot hit the gym and learn proper form at practice then expect to get hurt by someone who has.

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 1 ▼
– NewNameIguess 1 point 3 years ago +1 / -0

The potential costs and risks are still way too high for a school past time, especially considering that due to our child labor laws you couldn't even expect the kid to start paying off his medical debt to his parents while he still lives with them and is completely dependent on them.

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 2 ▼
– MattTheBlack 2 points 3 years ago +2 / -0

I mean that's just a good reason why not everyone should play and normally a responsible coach would have already weeded those people out. It's also reason number 1 that women shouldn't play football with men. Even low tier men are far stronger and have far higher bone density than an athletic woman

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 1 ▼
– NewNameIguess 1 point 3 years ago +1 / -0

It's not about size, in a physical sport there's always risk for injury which can be costly and even harm the ability to work in the future. Just your own body weight falling the wrong way can cause broken bones let alone the extra damage caused if there's someone tackling you.

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 1 ▼

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 11 ▼
– Guyven 11 points 3 years ago +11 / -0

Oh, smashing definitely happened until recently. There was a huge politically charged media campaign claiming concussions == death and anything (specifically football, it was targeted) where concussions were possible were exactly like ancient Roman blood-sport.

That went on heavily during the Obama years (but it had started earlier). Then they hit on the winning ingredient: they began claiming such a thing is also racist because black people play sports, making this actually literally slaves being forced to kill each other for white amusement. The instances of them calling a wide receiver with a $11mil contract a slave were numerous and pointed out as ludicrous every time.

But it didn't matter, the campaign wore down the league who tried to sue for peace by banning every kind of effective hit a tackler could possibly make. Making the game so rigged for offense that it was more sensible to stand back, let the quarterback do whatever he wanted, stand back, let the receiver make the catch, and THEN figure out what to do. The game got very VERY boring and not at all football very quickly.

The players adapted to this (though many argued loudly at the time that this was destroying the game), by adopting strategies of baiting penalties, much like you see in soccer for the same reason. Without the threat of getting hurt standing in the way, ludicrous plays are now the norm, and God help you if you accidentally clobber someone who basically ran into you because he didn't care you were there.

I blame this for also creating the conditions where a talentless grifter like Colin Capernik could single-handedly turn the entire league into his own personal BLM platform.
