The answer is zero. Stop trying to blame all the world's problems on the Hwhite man.
lololol the apologism from the reddit thread:
Although awful, please keep in perspective that both India and China have a population over 1 billion each. China produces 7.38 tonnes per capita of CO2 USA produces 15.52 tonnes per capita of CO2 India produces 1.91 tonnes per capita of CO2. China and India are the highest polluters solely to being at least double the population of Western nations but when looked at per capita, the west causes far more harm
CO2 is not a pollutant. It's actually a good thing for the world that CO2 goes up. Plants need CO2 to live, and the world is too cold now, it would be better if we warmed it up a bit. Call it terraforming.
What the fuck does CO2 have to do with plastic pollution? His whataboutism.exe is broken.
LOL Its incredible ALL these people complaining about China. The west moved many of their industry and productions to China so If they have pollution problem its west fault too. If you Care so much about pollution, stop buying so many things too.
Told you. It's ALWAYS the Hwhite man's fault. No matter what. Apparently the fact that the Chinese Communist Party does not follow basic waste management practices, and the fact that the Chinese people throw all their trash in the river is somehow white people's fault because their iPhone was assembled in China.
That's not the point. The point is that despite China's muh high-speed railway network and shit, there are still hundreds of millions of Chinese who live in what's essentially the Dark Ages. So of course those people don't use any plastics, they don't even know what that is.
Properly disposing of plastic waste involves burning it, which creates various chlorine-based gases, and CO2. It's how we dispose of plastic if it isn't landfilled - which is the only legal way to dispose of it in the US and Canada (and, if I recall, Europe as well, though they do incinerate a lot there).
Paper straws are just nasty. I do not mind using less plastic in general but not using plastic straws is one of the most stupid thing they came up with.
I heard a NWO guy saying that agriculture is the biggest polluter. Bitch, have you ever heard of the textile industry?
When do we stop using polyester in clothing? When do we start shaming women for having closets of clothes they'll never need, or insisting on buying new clothes for their kids, instead of secondhand, which they'll grow out of in a year?
How about these same reddit nerds buying walls full of plastic figurines?
Nothing they do is to help reduce pollution, it's just about subjugating you.
Yeah, paper straws are terrible. I have seen some more expensive plant fiber straws that were decent, but then you have the cost issue.
I'm sure plastic straws are less than 0.000000000001% of the plastic that ends up in the ocean. The libtards don't give a fuck about that. They don't care about solving problems. The libtard way is to inflict HIGHLY VISIBLE policies that show they are DOING SOMETHING. It doesn't matter if it works or not. It's all a virtue signal.
Libtards actually feel GOOD about shit like plastic straw bans. Whereas a normal person goes "this fucking sucks" the libtard goes "I LOVE how much this sucks! My sacrifice is going to save the planet! I'm such a fucking good person! Now let me go on r-HermanCainAward and gloat about Republicans who catch covid." The KEY to the libtard, though, is that deep down, their OWN sacrifice is not what matters, it's the fact that they are FORCING other people - "teh evil trumpers" - to sacrifice against their will, which is by far the most delicious thing to the libtard. This is why libtards never give to charity, and instead force taxpayer dollars to be wasted on their virtue signals: the key win for them is to force their hated enemies to pay for the libtard virtue signals.
The coffee chain where I live started using plastic straws for their crushed ice drinks. This sucks extra hard because I like to stir them and, surprise, paper straws suck at stirring.
One day I noticed they're selling reusable cups with plastic straws. Great. I buy one and take it in to get my drink.
I shit you not, they make the drink in the disposable plastic cup, with the bubble lid as well, pour it into my reusable cup, and toss the disposable.
You're absolutely right: none of this has to do with saving the environment, it has only to do with self-flagellation and forcing others to suffer.
I stopped eating at restaurants that switched to paper straws. Makes the drink taste like cardboard (which is weird because the cup doesn’t effect it) and it just falls apart so quickly
like everything neomarxists do it isn't about what they are saying, it is about them expressing control and power
the more nonsensical the better, because it takes more "commitment" to support a nonsensical position than a reasonable one
they get straws banned as a flex to show they can get society to change in a way that makes things worse, and anyone who disagrees or speaks out against them goes on the enemies list to be isolated and destroyed
Managed plastic isn't the problem anywhere. If you put your straw in the garbage because you aren't a fucking animal there's a nearly zero percent chance it will end up in the ocean. I occasionally walk around my neighborhood and pick up trash to make the neighborhood nicer but it also turns unmanaged plastic into managed plastic so if anyone gives me shit about using a plastic straw I can flex on them and make them briefly feel like the useless whiners they are.
Why so racist. You know that un-managed plastic represents people of color and managed plastic represents white people so you are racist. This is people of color erasure. Remember a clean neighborhood is also white supremacy.
There is the counterargument you will probably get.
Natures already adapted with the fact there is now plastic eating bacteria now, I'm less pissed at the 'oh woe think of the poor seagulls' and more from a 'we are just throwing away resources, we should be focusing on better recycling techniques to keep more resources with our own national economy than rely on imports.
I'm kind of wondering where all those old styrofoam burger clamshells went. They were supposed to still be littering the roadsides for another couple hundred years or so.
I love the fact that the reason we switched from paper to plastic in the first place was to "save the trees". Now we're talking about switching back, smh
I don't mind paying for paper bags. I have reusable fiber bags for my groceries, and I purposefully get a paperbag every now and then so I can take out diapers and garbage and recycling in a bag that is biodegradable. I don't think I'm saving the environment, but I don't like seeing plastic waste in the local forests and don't want to contribute.
I tend to use them for the bread I make. The loaves wind up kind of large for regular bread bags. And bread bags I use for dogshit bags anyway.
What gets me is that I don't see them offering the old-school paper bags in replacement, now that we have the paper recycling we supposedly didn't in the 1970s.
And they really need to stop picking on people with backpacks. It's easier to sneak something into one of those hand-held monkey bags than it is to put something in a bag that's on my back and zippered shut, ffs. If I really wanted to shoplift, the last thing I'd be using is a freakin' backpack (I'd just go out with the whole goddamn cart.)
Any environmentalist who doesn't desire war with China is insincere about their beliefs. This has been apparent to me for a while now.
If all this polluting of the environment is a global crisis about to destroy us and send the planet over an event horizon, then there is a moral imperative to wipe out the countries doing the most damage to the planet. Yet all the tree huggers want to do is decrease the quality of life for their own countrymen in ineffectual ways.
The young ones don't remember that all that pollution used to be here, and that we were LIED TO about the Chinese being "just like us" and "oh, they'll push for environmental laws, and safety laws, and labour laws, all humans love the same things" ... by the exact same motherfuckers that threw wildlife under the race and culture bus.
Best thing for to happen to this planet would be for India and China to eat each other's populations - literally.
I bet if I looked over the course of a year at all the plastic I dispose of and add it up, straws and bags aren't even a tiny fraction. It would be bottles and packaging many of which could be swapped for glass or paper. But replacing straws and bags inconveniences me like they want it to, and not their corporate overlords they don't want to mess with.
Or how about quit making everything for food and drink disposable. It's worse after covid world even with places that use plastic forks, cups, etc. One thing I remember liking in parts of Europe was how everywhere used real dishes and utensils. I could get coffee and a pastry at a food court of a train station and get a ceramic mug and plate and a metal fork. It's just better than a plastic cup and a paper bag.
Damn thing is, now we've got backyard recycle bins, and weekly pickup, I want my paper bags and glass pop and milk bottles back. Drinks are so much better in glass.
The problem was always the asshats who think it's fun to break glass on the street, though.

Sounds like he's arguing to bring manufacturing back to the US?

of course their number is smaller when you divide it by a billion

All of their solutions are nonsense.

The Ferengi solution is to just ban clothes for women. It's the Green New Deal.
Don't forget the chemical crap they put on their faces to hide the ugliness (even though their true ugliness is within.)
I'll believe in climate change when things women do start getting called out.
I love the "animal lover" types who still use mascara and lipstick...

Fun straw story.

I assume you meant to say PAPER straws, as that makes the rest of this make sense.
You assumed right
Every course in public policy should begin with the following lesson: policy that does not work is de facto immoral.
Also "There are no solutions; there are only trade-offs."
But that would be anti-progressive.
I stopped eating at restaurants that switched to paper straws. Makes the drink taste like cardboard (which is weird because the cup doesn’t effect it) and it just falls apart so quickly

Like over 90% of plastic in the ocean can be traced back to 3 rivers. 2 come out of China and the third is in India
Managed plastic isn't the problem anywhere. If you put your straw in the garbage because you aren't a fucking animal there's a nearly zero percent chance it will end up in the ocean. What gets me the most is McDonald's Iced beverages. They use these massive plastic cups for them, but then give you a paper straw.
Like wtf dude.
"BUT MUH TURTLES!!!"
It's amazing how effective leftie propaganda is on the general population.
Meanwhile, in reality, the leading killer of sea turtles in 2020-21 was surgical face masks.
Do you have a link for that? Would be handy for browbeating people.
Are plastic straws blamed in particular for some environmental problem, more than other plastic? I'm not up on the latest green propaganda.
Some photos of a turtle with a straw up it's nose were doing the rounds, and now they're banned.
bet the marxist photog put it there
Irrawaddy is a real river in Laos?
I thought it was a made-up Laotian surname on King of the Hill!
They were supposed to still be littering the roadsides for another couple hundred years or so.
used to use grocery bags for small trash bags and for the cat litter, now i have to actually buy single-use bags for that purpose.
much environment.
I love the fact that the reason we switched from paper to plastic in the first place was to "save the trees". Now we're talking about switching back, smh
tbh the main reason grocery stores are switching to paper bags is so they can bill you for them
I don't mind paying for paper bags. Yeah the 1st thing I did after the plastic bag ban was buy like 1000 plastic bags on amazon.
Been hoarding mine.
I tend to use them for the bread I make. The loaves wind up kind of large for regular bread bags. And bread bags I use for dogshit bags anyway.

Guess who you can blame?
You really can't say their name.
Unless you want to hear their shame.
