I'm going to guess bullshit, because the writing style smells vaguely leftist.

Obviously. They're skipping all sorts of steps to make sure the teachers can teach. Also, most substitutes need at least 90 college credits.

I don't know about Florida but where I am all you need is a high school diploma and experience working with children. College education just allows you to work longer before you need to renew your license. It's a joke but everyone knows that substitute teaching is a thinly disguised babysitting gig. If Florida is purging groomers then this is a more than acceptable price to pay. For 3rd grade the big thing is being able to work with kids. Any retard can teach the content.

For real, I did that for a bit before I landed a full-time teaching job (which I washed out of quick af lol) and iirc the reqs were being 21 or older and having a high school diploma. Good for any grade and any subject.

Any retard can teach the content.

I saw the early-childhood education majors so I can confirm! I am very skeptical K-5 needs a 4 year degree.

Most of the substitutes I've met have been fully certified teachers, but borderline retarded and on the outs with the union. I'm not sure the degree really helps.

LOL. My brain was giving off redditor lefty vibes too. It must be that passive-aggressive notion of superiority you can sense from the writing.

They denigrated the new hire's age, working class background, ability and credentials when the fucking, fully certified mentoring teacher had to use "classroom" twice in their opening sentence to form a coherent thought.

You know what?

Even this is entirely accurate, there's still an unmentioned positive ... this new teacher is unlikely to try and fuck her students.

And yes, I know it's 3rd grade.

Also, probably will do a better - or at least less bad - job than current teachers.

But, yeah, this smells like bullshit anyway.

Yeah, I think the poster is just upset that they couldn't explain the terms being discussed.

Really, ask yourself, how hard is it to teach a kid to read? You know how to read? Show the kids. Done.

100%. Teaching spelling, reading, and arithmetic does not require knowledge of the general terminology ("phonetic," "fluency" and "operations") because you never get to that level with third-graders, obviously.

"ABC," "'I before E except after C,'" "1,2,3," "Plus," "take-away," "times" . . . WTF is so hard? All the theoretical BULLSHIT is the problem and always has been.

Let's not throw the baby out with the bathwater.

There's a lot of good that can be done with knowledge of how language is learnt. I work with people who struggle with it, and the foundational skills for linguistics all the time. You might not talk to the kids about 'phonological awareness skills' for example, but you absolutely teach and test them all the time.

I agree that education is infested with ideology, but there is actually a lot that can be done beyond what a reasonably smart mom with no training sat in front of 30 kids can do.

We'd could teach by teaching her the foundational literacy skills (phonological awareness) and getting her to run activities around these skills. Just because adults use a load of jargon to discuss this development, doesn't mean the kids get taught these words, or that it isn't important.

We could get her to understand the developmental milestones. So that she can flag kids who are behind, and those who have disordered development, and those who are just unfortunate enough to be a whole year behind because of when they were born. The mild cases can slip through and look like a different issue. And also the educational milestones. Where exactly is a year 3 or 4 expected to be at, and which skills are of a higher priority because they are foundational for other skills?

We can teach her behavior management skills, running a class of 30 isn't the same as managing your own 3 kids...

It wouldn't take 4 years. But there's a good 6 months-1year maybe of work we could do and actually train it as a trade.

Isn't there a teacher's shortage?

Yes. They can't be groomers, so they all quit.

Yeah, that's why I'm skeptical of this story. Even if it is true, you can teach teachers the meaning of "phonetic" much more easily than you can stop teachers from being groomers.

Yeah, that's why I'm skeptical of this story.

If it's just the lack of qualifications, don't be. Schools in my area don't require any college to substitute teach. Everyone knows that substitute teaching is a glorified babysitting gig but a lot of people are shocked to find out that the state treats it that way as well.

There's a bit more to it than that, but their lack of qualifying credentials is a little bit off-putting. But, then again, substitutes are only there to babysit and make sure they don't burn the school down, not teach.

If the woke cunts and other lazy women teachers weren't so hell-bent on doing nothing other than complaining and propagandizing, there wouldn't be a teacher shortage. I work with 2 former teachers, one who last worked as a substitute, is right wing, a latina, and she enjoys working in my store more, even if its less pay. The other just started, works with the retards in her teaching job, and is a blonde white woman who has the personality of a soviet-era party snitch. Guess which one complained they weren't getting paid enough and worked too hard as a teacher.

Meh Schools are an outdated structure anyway, online materials are way better depending on where you look than a lot of the state issued education.

If this downgrade in 'quality teaching' is because they removed the groomers from teaching, close all schools, turn them into big community libraries with free Internet and a sports complex and you'll probably have test scores increase with more independent learning.

The ability to teach one's self requires an IQ sufficiently high enough to be successful. Not everyone has that.

For instance, many of the negros in my company making 6 figures have no idea what the fuck they're doing, are the weakest members of their respective teams and constantly blame their equipment for their failures to meet deadlines. Yet, they're being given the opportunity to make real money because it increases the company's diversity giving it easier access to financing. These roids have the opportunity to teach themselves and become useful before getting the eventual axe when I prove for the nth time that what they're telling their managers about their equipment is bullshit.

Remember, your company sees everything about your PC. When your PC is reporting that it's at the login screen for 20 hours a day that doesn't really leave a lot of time for fucking work. Stupid negros.

And yet, the people who are intelligent enough to teach themselves (mostly white) are trapped in a system that is incapable of recognizing self-taught skills. These highly intelligent people are shut out of the majority of job opportunities because they don't have a degree. A degree they have to work their asses off to get while Tyrone is literally given a degree.

It's infuriating.

A degree that grows more worthless by the second as they inject so many Liberal studies into courses like engineering, the people that get to use their engineering skills more dropped out of those courses and took apprenticeships.

I do think we should shutter A LOT of the education system and not only force more independent learning but either trade and community schooling as I have fewer issues if a group sets up a teaching group if they believe to have a better learning method. Testing skills may be tricky but easier than the mess we have now but none of this can even get off the ground if 'free money because you fit into this diversity chart' still exists as that undercuts ALL chances at reforms.

Have people who know their stuff at stations, and you have the needed teaching environment for most students. The library in Orlando is like this, and I love it.

Yep, these are just buzz-words designed to make teaching seem hard.

Everyone knows how to read. Everyone knows how to do basic math. Teaching those things to kids does not require any special skills so they have to make stuff up to seem important.

There's only one way to spell things.

Two ways. There's English, and there's American.

Time for an initiative where we weed out all of the leftist public school teachers and replace them with right-wingers and Christians. A Great Replacement, of sorts.

Anyone with a HS diploma and a motherly disposition can teach 3d grade. What's so hard--multiplication tables? Long division? "The Weird Wonderful World of Insects"?

In fact, it would be ideal to staff elementary schools with people who have never set foot in a college of education or attended a university within the last 20 years.

The bullshit administration pushes teachers to do is where the advanced education comes into play. Minimum number of "Diversity, equity, and inclusion education. Want to fail a student? You better have 10 pages of your intervention plan laid out explaining in extreme detail what you did to keep the child from being a failure, otherwise you are the failure. You also better be ready to report to three different computer systems with updates on grades, absences, DMA hours. Parents who want to know in real time what their kids grades are by accessing the grades online in real time. Oh, add in the linguistic skills needed to explain to students how basic standards are not racist.

Teachers are fucked.

Yes--school bureaucrats are those responsible for imposing all the social engineering espoused in schools of education. It's no mistake that administrators far outnumber--and make much more money than--teachers at all levels of public education.

Alright, but do the students understand what those terms mean? I'd sooner assume it's a robe of language to make her feel smart; saying things to students that are useless for them to learn. Maybe the students don't ask what it means because the teacher acts really smug and self-important when explaining.

Rather than phonetic spelling, reading fluency, and mathematical operations, it should be just normal spelling, ability to read at all, and math.
