Maybe try watching the show? Chief doesn't die, he puts himself in a position to die unless Cortana takes control of his body forcing her to do it when she doesn't want or really need to. Cortana acts like chief does in every other media killing the Covenant and then they leave the Covenant planet carrying the Forerunner artifact. One of the female Spartans asks if it's still Chief or Cortana and doesn't get an answer at the end of the series. Which is a cliff hanger if Chief can't forgive her for killing his girlfriend or if Cortana is still in charge.
The series is shit but there's no need to lie about why it's shit. Cortana able to take over Master cheeks was part of her introduction. We know it was happening but we also know how the series is written. Cortana being chief stops him being overly emotional and it stops all the love triangle type melodrama the series is 100% based around. There is zero reason they will leave Cortana in control of Master cheeks because it leads to less melodrama and nothing in the Halo TV series sticks for very long except .
