Ive been using the cultural appropriation line on twitter lol. But they dont care because with the left its "well, its different" or "anime belongs to all" lol.

Leftists are simply disingenuous narcissists. They will use any excuse to inject their own ideas into every space in existence. Black dude shot a bunch of people in a city with crazy gun control? Let’s talk about taking guns away from rural whites! Beloved series of books focuses on a bunch of dudes? Let me tell you why we had to rewrite the whole thing for television! Japanese video game rubbed a few lefty cunts the wrong way? Let us explain why localization actually requires total revision of characters and dialogue!

Yes.. its why we have so many lame, awkward and ugly characters in movies, shows and games. Almost all female chars in video games made in the west look like goblins and dykes. They also use the same boring ass haircuts.

The west is just lazy and unimaginative in terms of char creation.

The game was Skies of Arcadia (JP: Eternal Arcadia) already over 20 years ago.

It's kind of amazing could be that poorly written when they, by their own admission, 'threw the japanese script out.'

I really enjoyed SoA, but I remember the script/dialogue was terrible. I chalked it up to a bad localization, but this is not what I meant

I'm actually curious about a bit of a legal issue in regards to this. By their own admission the translators butchered the script due to them not wanting to do their jobs and Skies of Arcadia as a result in the western release was poorly received and people did not like the story and writing because it was terrible, which did have an effect on sales and future releases from the company.

Could not the company who made Skies of Arcadia sue the translators for what I'm assuming would be either breaking the contract for intentionally doing subpar work if not outright sabotaging their product with their actions.

I'm just curious because I'm certain that would be against quite a few laws for the person you hired to intentionally do a bad job and cause a project to fail.

Or has it simply been too long even if only now evidence and proof of wrongdoing had come about.

The best way to localize is to directly translate everything and then refine for grammar, I would also be ok with 4kids level edits that were made specifically to preserve puns in series such as Oruchuban Ebichu for example.

4kids get a lot of crap, but people remember things like their Kirby and Pokemon dubs very fondly.

And their One Piece rap.

4Kids did a lot of dumb choices in translations and lolcowlizations, but at the core of it was still, deep down, a desire to bring these shows to the west. They just went about it in really weird and dumb ways at times.

I don't feel that from modern woke activists. They have no love, no care, no affection for the source material.

I should note I was referencing the more extreme visual edits they made to some anime, and mentioned a more legitimate use for said level of editing to aid in translation.

Just learn Japanese and cut out the middleman. No need to wait for shitty translations or pozzed localizations. It took me a couple of years, but I can enjoy games, manga, anime and even books.

We want translation, NOT 'localization'. Especially not when the 'locale' you are 'localizing' for is California.

That's a ridiculously lazy take on what they were hired to do, which was translate a work of artistic vision into another language. 'We didn't want to translate it, so we just ad-libbed the entire game'.

They aren’t lazy. They worked hard to secure their positions. These people are malicious. They are deliberately rewriting stories to assuage their own egos and forward their pet ideologies.

Super robot wars 30 also suffered from localization censorship. Also so did chrono cross. In the case of srw30, at least fans released a patch to uncensor the game and restore original dialogue.
