I haven't seen a thread on this yet, so let's do this! I always recommend RimWorld for base building/management, as well as Hades for a magnificent hack and slash roguelike. I also highly recommend Noita -- a roguelike where every pixel is made of some kind of simulated substance -- dirt, lava, acid -- and you find and edit magic wands as your primary way of attacking and affecting the world. I also picked up the Phoenix Wright trilogy during the fall sale. I've been enjoying it, but sometimes it can definitely be too finicky in an old-school way, like wandering around aimlessly until you show a witness a random trading card or something. Decently fun, though, for sure. I'm not mad at paying $17 for 3 of the games.
What about you? What are you playing? What do you recommend?

Terraria and Stardew Valley are great games, but the devs' politics leave something to be desired. Rogue Legacy was a good game, but the sequel's got all the hallmarks of leftist convergence already in mid-early-access (reproducing homosexuals, troonery, etc).
I had no idea that Terraria and Stardew Valley devs were woke, nor that Rogue Legacy 2 is shaping up that way too. Shame. I need to do some digging then.
Terraria devs have some neon hair, and there's been plenty of troonery in their immediate circle, if not themselves.
SDV guy is kind of a basic Pacific Northwest NPC when it comes to politics. Hasn't done anything too egregious yet, so I wouldn't necessarily recommend against the game on his politics alone, but the warning signs (primarily gay pandering) are there.
Just got Deep Rock Galactic and am enjoying it. Team Loot and Shoot with mining.
Drg is incredible.
Too much progressive virtue signalling from Steam lately to bother buying from them IMHO.
I got on the gog sale instead, but I've been going through the Ys games. Only on second one and it's surprisingly fun. Music is really good and that's a big part of a game to me. For such a simple combat concept that's over 30 years old I was surprised how well it played. Some of the boss fights can be a bit cheap though, but I still got through all of them so far and I'm far from a video game masochist.
I literally just finished Ys VIII this weekend. I can vouch for the quality of the series, though it must be mentioned that the Flash Dodge/Guard system used in Celceta, VIII, and IX is very love/hate, and has turned off a lot of people. I'm considering getting IX while the sale is still going.
That said, Ys in its prime is Ark of Napishtim, Oath in Felghana, and Origins. And every single game has amazing music.
I can second Rimworld. It's a bonus that the game's developer has a history of standing to the gender studies hacks in the games media.
These days I'm playing a lot of The Sims 3 and a lot of their content is on sale, so I'll probably snap that up even though I feel dirty about supporting EA. If I knew how to pirate the stuff I would, but maybe it's good to send EA signals that people like TS3 better than the shit sandwich they're serving up with TS4. It feels so wholesome without tranny Sims. If you want degeneracy in TS3 you gotta mod that shit in.
The post is long gone now, but the dev team told a troon modder to shove off years ago (he begged them for gibs), and in response he sperged out and replaced all the textures in all his mods with ads for his troon scam charity before deleting his account. I did a write-up back on Reddit KIA2 years ago when it happened.
Devs have been fairly based for a long time. There's a robust mod scene (not that the game outright needs modding - it works well). Ideology is a solid expansion (wasn't much a fan of Royalty).
Just recently bought Troubleshooter and I love it.
It is a very fun X-COM like game with anime style characters who have elemental abilities like wind, thunder and fire.
The game has an interesting mastery system which allows you to customize your characters by selecting passive abilities from a pool of 600+ masteries, some really cool characters and a great soundtrack.
The best way to describe the game is as a mixture of Final Fantasy Tactics and X-COM.
Also the Korean game studio making the game is very humble and thus they have provided a lot of value for such an affordable price.
Thanks to BandageBandolier from this forum for recommending this game to me when I asked for game recommendations during the Thanksgiving Steam sale.

Can second Troubleshooter. My only complaint with it is the VERY slow accumulation of characters. Even just doing the interesting sidequests alone, you'll be nigh maxed by the time you get a third new party member. If they made a new game with better pacing with all they've learned from dev'ing Troubleshooter, I think it would be amazing, but as it is, it is an enjoyable play.
I played for about 20 hours so far and I still only have four party members.
I agree that this is a valid complaint.
I still love the game and think it is very fun to play but I cannot imagine how amazing a sequel to this game will be with what the devs have learned from feedback.
Gal Gun is one of the best, if not the best, rail shooters of the modern era.
...Yeah, it's about shooting a "love love gun" at animu grills, But were you to put it into a zombie or wartime or dinosaur "skin", it would easily have won several major awards for its solid railshooter gameplay. If you don't mind waifus orgasming every so often (Rated M, not NC17) and an utterly Harem Protagonist Anime storyline, then it's got some good mechanics going for it. Plus, every time it makes a sale, I hear a feminist loses their tendies.
Can second this. Pretty unique type of game. If you've ever enjoyed Rainbow Six Siege (or wanted something more realistic) this is basically a top down strategy version of it.
CHR$(143) -- Very few people know about this obscure indie pile by a true eccentric nerd so I'm going to bring it up first. It's $3!! Just a fucking weird genre-bending mess of Boulder Dash, Incredible Machine, ZZT or Kroz, it's hard to describe but it's brilliant.
Midnight Protocol -- Every hacker media cliche comes together. If you liked the hacking minigames in 2011 and 2016 Deus Ex and would like a fleshed out campaign like that, this is for you.
Phantom Doctrine - xcom-like that's more of a stealth game until you get caught. Actually pretty easy to cheese but it's a fun romp with interesting refs to cold war history. Don't play it just like you would xcom or you're going to be frustrated
Every Zachtronics game.
Seconding Zachtronics games, particularly Spacechem.
i've been enjoying Ring of Pain. It's a card-based roguelike that really puts an emphasis on planning ahead and managing your stats and resources as effectively as possible
I will always recommend DeadCore as a fps platformer. Plays really fluid (good controls), is challenging (but fair) but a bit short (~4h). Playing it another time is even shorter though than the first, because you just became better.
Cognition: An Erica Reed Thriller is a fun adventure game. Has a female protagonist that is well written. Jane Jensen (Gabriel Knight) contributed to the game.
If you like RPGs (and you must like them) Age of Decadence has multiple paths & solutions. Quite a bit of jank though and the combat is really difficult (but you can beat the game with almost no combat).
In a similar way (you must like RPGs) the Avadon Trilogy. Really good world & storytelling.
Tales of MajEyal is a great RPG roguelike. I think somewhere on the web there is a free version, don't recall it. Has a number of expansions, which offer new content (but play the base game first).
Just play Apex Legends bro it's all you need
Lol Fortnite is much worse than Apex with the woke shit. Fortnite put up BLM propoganda on billboards in the fucking game.
Apex has some woke shit in the lore but it's easy to ignore it.
Lol
Dumbest thing I've heard in a long time.
EA is evil but it's a free game so you don't have to give them money. And Epic games is no better.
There's one non-binary character (which is fucking retarded) but you wouldn't know that by playing the game. It isn't even mentioned in game.
Wraith was the strongest character for the first few seasons, but Pathfinder wasn't far behind and Octane was meta for almost three full seasons and Gibby is a must pick for ranked/comp.
But every legend has always been viable. You never had to play as a female character to win. That just shows you don't know what the fuck you're talking about.
Crackdown 1 was a lot of fun. C2 left something to be desired, and I never even considered C3.
