If you want to watch youtube videos, check out Invidious. A website that allows you to watch youtube videos without youtube.
I think they disabled comments on most “mainstream” things (yadda yadda, the excuse YT will give is that “creators” can decide whether they want to allow comments or not) waaaaay before this announcement, sadly…
So even that isn’t an option.
YouTube is becoming a censored, whitewashed (in the sense of blancmange, rather than “white people”), “endless present”, walled garden sort of place, and it’s rather sad…

No idea if YouTube applies different Beta “rule changes” in different countries, as a test, but I’m sure they probably do. Like app companies (fucking InstaFace, for one) do.
I read elsewhere the dislikes will still be visible to the creator, just not to the general public. So that given reason is complete bullshit if this is true.

They're salty that their idiocy gets downvotes so they pretend they're the victims. It's not 'dislike attacks' people just think woke is dumb.
Just like in 2014 or so when news sites started removing their comment sections. The excuse given is to prevent 'abuse', but the real reason is stop people countering the prescribed narrative.
They don't want the plebs being able to tell how unpopular something is. They want the plebs unable to hear eachother, and only able to hear the propaganda machine.

Yes, and the reason is because total views can be used to estimate dislikes, with likes per total views.
But they won't remove it entirely they'll turn it into a qualifier like "thousands" or "about 10,000".

Probably because when you go to any vaccine video where the likes and dislikes are enabled, they are massively ratio'd, they want to hide that so it appears that everyone is behind the narrative 100% and the people that disagree are just a small fringe group of nutjobs

There needs to be something like the now defunct "Dissenter" browser extension where you can comment, like or dislike things independent of the website they're on.
Of course google, apple and mozilla will conspire to kick it off their app stores but it'll be a fun ride while it lasts.
Even if they kick it off their app stores, you can still sideload the extension or application. Getting kicked off the stores is not a reason why it should end.
For some reason people still seem to think YouTube comments are an option. They’re (largely) not.
At least where I live, comments on almost ANY new “controversial” or political video are disabled, too. Maybe that’s just a Beta that they haven’t rolled out worldwide (including where you guys all live), but it’s definitely the case over here, at least…
This is another step in the death of what’s left of the “free” internet, and that’s… Seriously disconcerting.
