BAD WORD FUNNY HURR HURR
SH*T P*SS PEE PEE HEEHEEEEEEE
Seriously. The letters better be huge if they expect one to read so much from such a title.
I cannot recommend Castalia House and their associated authors enough, for anyone who actually likes reading good books.
Thank you for this post.
This stuff makes me want to write a novel, but I'm completely unimaginitive. I mean, I just started thinking up ideas for a sci-fi story, but just about everything in it is in some way derived from Phantasy Star.
The trick is to realize that no one cares about being derivative or else Superman would be remembered as a John Carter ripoff instead of the foundation of superheroes. Take what you like from phantasy star, discard what doesn't work or add other elements and you've got the makings of a new creation.
This. 'Derivative' doesn't necessarily =/= 'bad'. Has there been a single truly, completely, 100% original story that takes not even a crumb of inspiration from what came before it since, say, Homer?
Also if you ever feel bad about your writing, just remember: people have been paid millions to write lines like 'somehow...Palpatine returned' and 'You need the bad pussy' into formerly powerhouse film & TV franchises. For the past 2 years, that thought always gets me back on my feet when I hit a snag & start questioning myself while writing.
Indeed. Doing pointless things just to be "new" is how you end up a postmodernist hack.
Especially this obsession with subverting expectations
"Subverting expectations"
haha, 'everyone writer plagiarizes Gilgamesh' is a phrase I've heard employed before for exactly that.
But yeah, ever noticed that they never retort to their critics with "Lets see you write better" anymore? There's a good reason for that.
Luo Guanzhong be like "hooo izzz Gigameshu"?
I've written books before. It is way more difficult than people think. It's not like digging a ditch, which I've also done, but writing a book is a year-long project, and at the end of it, if you're lucky enough to get published in an industry filled with SJWS, maybe you'll get paid something equivalent to minimum wage.
Just saying, it's not worth your time, unless you are extremely talented. Writing for a career, or money, is one of the biggest mistakes anyone can make. The whole industry is a pile of shit. You don't get rewarded because of quality. You get rewarded for parroting lefty nonsense, and being the flavor of the month.
Phantasy Star was ~30 years ago. I think most people have forgotten its plot points.
Just don't call your Demon Lord "Dark Force" and have it hide in a treasure chest, and you're good. Demon Lord Umbraton who bursts from a closet door works, though.
Maybe I should've been more specific and said PSO2.
Then steal from the older ones. The story is better anyways. :p
All the Smart People "gravely concerned" that we are becoming Idiocracy are the ones buying this crap.
I consider myself a smart person who is deeply concerned Idiocracy is already here and I can assure you, I ain't buying or reading this crap.
Yes but you (presumably) aren't a Smart Person™ who "Fucking Loves Science™!" There's a difference.
Shit. The word is Shit. If you can't stop being a faggot for five fucking minutes and print it properly, you can't fucking print a damn thing worth reading. Fuck off.
Sometimes, you just have to go full-Lenny Bruce.
Maybe the next one will be "Shee*t, Ni**er!". That would actually be edgy though unlike this cringe drivel.
THAT N*GGA DIDN'T STEAL THE BIKE
What is this shit looks like some shit that jim Lahey would write
This is real? No photoshop? Please tell me this is a joke... right?
Nope. Took it today.
I'm not reading it. I just saw it in a book store and took a picture.
The state of the modern english speaker.
My GF asks why I'm re-reading sci-fi that I've already read. This is as good as any explanation as any for the current year.
a long cat, lol so random
...
Convince me that this is worse than the New Jedi Order books.
The two-parter in NJO where they turn the 'Lusankya' into a spear and throw it into a worldship is pretty baller.
Forcenull space druchii.
FORCENULL SPACE DRUCHII, riding enslaved tyranids.
You can't make this shit up. Well, I mean, someone did, but still.
Yep, Rebel Dream and Rebel Dawn are great even if you don't read the rest of the NJO series.
No
In fact, as goofy as chewies death was, at least he went out like a badasss protecting his surrogate family getting squashed by a moon. Little did I know that life for these characters could make death a mercy.
What's the deal with wokeists and their obsession with bodily functions?
I'll need to check those out, thanks!
so she's a fecalmancer?
Space opera isn't a subgenre of science fiction?
Shh, don't confuse the gay fauci.
