I feel that nerdy stuff became trendy with Big Bang Theory and MCU movies. I remember thinking that was a good thing but now I know better. What is weird is that once nerd culture became mainstream and it became fashionable to say you read comic books or played video games that is when the attacks on nerds (especially white males) started in full force.
Why do you think that it happened that way. Partly due to the large number of feminists who weren’t real fans getting involved in the hobbies. But I’m still surprised to this day how it all went down and definitely miss the days when you were made fun of for liking these things.
Good points. I honestly think all these high profile “geek girls” like Zoe Quinn or Anita were the same girls who laughed at guys in high school who were into these hobbies and they wouldn’t have given them the time of day. Now that it’s popular they are like leeches
Considering the fact that ZQ was a Something Awful regular before GG that's a pretty safe bet.
A huge number of the worst actors out there today all have their roots in groups like SomethingAwful. You can trace modern day SJWs directly back through hipsters to emos. It all goes back to people who were pointlessly self-destructive, nihilistic, and just wanted to shit on everything for the sake of having shit on it.
That's why everything they say, do, and make goes out of its way to be repellent and awful. Everything from fishmouth and shitty haircuts to bad music and un-fun games, it's all about being as deliberately miserable and shitty as possible.
Easy answer, this is the response by those losing power to those winning power. The invaders are evil, we are pure and virtuous is being declared as the importance of sports and big society are losing importance everywhere.
Now they want to mold it to look like things it had been like before. Comics are important, but only if large society has power, and it only works if the socialites have power.
It's one of the reasons why I hate the way we teach history. A giant change came, and everyone just went with it? No, not even close. Wars were fought between countries that no longer exist, over power and trade that no longer works. Then we say the new thing just plowed through without any problems, instead of the riots and laws that tried to stop it.
This is that same time of change as the others.
Nerd culture started to become mainstream with the first XBox. It showed normies that videogames are fun.
After the release of the the first smart phone, the iphone in 2008, it allowed the unwashed masses general access to the internet. Previously that was the domain of the tech savvy and those who sought out such things. The internet was very different back then. Women are lagging indicators of social norms. IE: once something becomes socially acceptable women will adapt to it. That is around the time you saw women embracing nerd culture too. Remember "the cake is a lie, lol".

This blog post gives a great explanation in my opinion, using gentrification of a neighborhood as a metaphor for what happened to geek/nerd culture.
There really are some hidden gems on that blog beyond just the Days of Rage post.
Thanks!
It's just a coincidence. The attacks were always going to start when they did, because the script said they take the White House in 2016.
That's why the last couple of years have been so crazy, they're making up for the four they didn't have control over.
As a response, I would highly recommend checking out the essay Geeks, MOPs, and sociopaths in subculture evolution. It takes a look at how subcultures are created, then potentially get invaded by normies, and then get invaded by people with sociopathic tendencies (like SJWs), leading to the inevitable decay/destruction of the subculture unless steps are taken to keep the culture alive. Sadly, at this point, many geek fandoms are too far gone to be saved (D&D and other well-known RPGs, cartoons, certain card games, etc), so rather than fighting against the inevitable wave of bullshit that the SJWs bring, it's better to move on and start creating new things - and gatekeep the shit out of them.
To think I used to tthibk gatekeeping was a bad thing.
Don't get me wrong, I'm all for letting people in to try new things, but we, as the stewards of fandoms, need to get over our "OMG OTHER PEOPLE ARE INTERESTED IN THE SAME THING I AM!!!" reaction to the Thing We Like when someone shows the least bit of interest. Let them try it, see if they enjoy it, but as soon as they start suggesting any sort of change to it that erodes the base of what makes the Thing a Thing (like inclusivity, et al) we need to be willing to tell them to go fuck off and make their own thing. That was our problem to begin with - we kept making it easier for the normies to get interested in our geek stuff, and we threw the doors too wide.
the guests got too uppity.
Yea I agree. What always annoys me with the diversity thing is that with pretty much any fandom there were already women and minorities who were enjoying them. We should’ve done some gatekeeping once we saw people who had no interest
Not that weird. When you take possession of a given thing, you will drive out those who previously possessed that thing. And since they incorrectly viewed nerddom as being a 'white male' thing, it necessitated an attack on that group.
I never liked Big Bang Theory and part of the reason was that it was mocking nerd culture and at the very least presenting a stereotypical view. I didn't understand the popularity.
Different things I think.
People from the 80s-90s grew up with cartoons based on comics, so the market just aged enough to afford to watch and enjoy the new content and Hollywood capatalized.
Big Bang theory had a huge bandwagon of pple who wanted to say they 'watched big bang and understood the jokes which makes me smart'. They wanted clout.
Neither, of these normal groups of pple r gonna care all that much about the culture.
Then along with everything that becomes popular, u gonna have leeches, here we have thots n feminist trying to make a living with their vagina.
Why do you miss the days of being made fun of for liking these things?
Should’ve said when the hobbies were more of a niche thing. To me quality declined in some areas once it becomes very popular.
I think this is really simple.
1. The Internet was invented and became widespread.
2. And who spent the most time socializing on the internet?
a. Nerdy guys
b. Bored Women
I would bet if you could look at who was driving various narratives when forums and facebook groups became popular it would look like one of those nature documentaries where the school of fish show up once a year and every predator within 100 miles comes to feed on them.
The CIA used to send in in-person agents to try to influence or take over countries. If caught, these agents faced torture and death. Now with the internet you could do the same thing from the comfort of your home or office, and the worst response is getting your current account blocked by whatever internet groups you were using, and you had to create a new one the next day.
In ecology, a feeding frenzy occurs when predators are overwhelmed by the amount of prey available. For example, a large school of fish can cause nearby sharks, such as the lemon shark, to enter into a feeding frenzy.[1] This can cause the sharks to go wild, biting anything that moves, including each other or anything else within biting range. Another functional explanation for feeding frenzy is competition amongst predators.[2] This term is most often used when referring to sharks or piranhas. It has also been used as a term within journalism.[3]
Because nerdy culture is largely White and male, made, and fans. A lot of the properties are mainstream (everybody loves them), but the actual hobbies aren't, certainly not the creators, many of whom are also Jewish (not everyone is responsible for the glory and wants to be). Anything that's White male heavy is to be attacked because that's what Marixsts want, to destroy the West, which is based on White Males and what they build. It became popular because it was fun and movies are more easily accessible than comic books, plus the CGI was there to make them look good. It's no mystery or paradox. Something White and male became popular for the umpteenth time and so needed to be attacked because it is White and Male. White males are the enemy of Marxism.
But it still makes no sense. I remember on a subreddit this lady who was bashing white makes and how horrible fantasy authors are I asked her why she doesn’t find a hobby that meets her perfect diversity.
I grew up into nerdy stuff and most of my nerd friends were white males (I’m black) and we got along fine. Then again I don’t realize why people live in a majority white country and are surprised if things are majority white.
Cunts. They want power. How you get power when you are completely unlikable and a worthless sack of rotten pussy hair? Pretend to be an authority figure aka, Mommy and Daddy, and stupid people will automatically listen and give you money. Corporations follow money because their cunts hurt if people aren't inserting coins on a regular basis.
Correlation does not imply causation.
This is a statement only ever made by people who want to ignore a correlation.
The leftists were going to try to take over whether they made sci-fi/fantasy fandom popular or not.
Our current situation follows directly from plans that were put in motion sixty years ago. There was nothing special about our particular interest.
True but I guess I’ve always been puzzled by that because I thought at the time that all this exposure was great for nerd culture.
They play off the guys as smart but dumb and need the girls to lead them through life. The show is horrible. Admittedly I've only ever watched a few episodes but every episode is like that that I have seen so if it isn't that I'll have to take others word for it.
To be fair, I know a lot of people who are smart, but dumb. It's unfortunately a state of being for a lot of nerds.
That being said, I've only known a handful of "Sheldons." And even my fellow nerds have a hard time putting up with them.
Well, that's called the naivete of youth. You want the shit you like to be popular because you think it will make you less of an outcast.
Considerable experience has taught me that is not the case, and that if you want something to stay the way you like it, you gatekeep the fuck out of it.
Doesn't not imply it either.
It’s made fun of more nerds than the Alpha Betas and Pi Delta Pi combined.
