Is the movie any good? I'm completely shocked that they dared to put white characters on the title image.
Not only that but the dude is front center? Wtf is going on.
"We need to sell this alien invasion. The morons who watch MSM are already prepared, but how are we going to get all the other regular Americans conditioned for the event?"
"Hollywood blockbuster. It's time for another Independence Day. Put Chris Pratt in it, the right-wingers will eat it up."
The synopsis sounds completely braindead, even before you get to the spoiler-y bit. If it is possible to send a messenger 30 years into the past warning them of a future war, why would anyone's first response be to send soldiers into the future instead of taking advantage of your 30 year head start?
Nope they literally draft people from the past to do seven-day tours in the future war zone. And most of them don’t make it back.
It insinuates that they are taking people they knew were going to be dead before the alien invasion begins, in order to avoid “paradox” but it doesn’t really make any sense.
Yeeaaaahhh let’s kill off all our ancestors before the war even happens! No wonder they are running out of people in the future. Must be liberal generals running the war.
It’s a lot easier to sell as a you will only have to be there 7 days… what could go wrong in 7 days. rather than You don’t reproduce anymore people and the rest of your life is insignificant so we can throw you into a meat grinder with almost no cost to our future. And if you make it through your 7 days good for you.
Why only take advantage of 30 sure if time travel only works in 30 year increments fine but leapfrog back along and give yourself a hundred years of war prep and you’d be golden.
I have seen 15 minutes so far, and the US in 2022 will be like South Africa? Everyone but the protagonist is Black? Even in the school class, all the students are Black?
Apparently. I know they grow at a disproportionate rate but this is silly. US is still like 75% white if you count white Latino. Although the truth is it is only a matter of time before US is going to be a minority white country.
Based Margaret Sanger. The only reason that I oppose banning abortion is that blacks have loads of irresponsible sex and then they only use abortions as birth control (which is disgusting). But without it, they'd breed out of control (particularly the poor ones in the ghetto) and the U.S. would be even more fucked than it already is.
That would be my preferred solution, but it probably would be unconstitutional. It would be hard to design a program that's broad enough to have a meaningful impact in reducing the poor black population born to single mothers, but not so overbroad as to further decrease fertility rates among whites and asians, and remain constitutional.
Thank you, got to min 27 so far and stopped. Is the badass female soldier that is very off-putting to me. Does it get better or is a "deep message" how women are so much better and braver then men in every combat scenario?
I saw it. Awful film and I yelled at my tv like a drunk fool quite a bit. Just about every supporting character outside Pratt’s family is black, and it is just odd. Character decisions make no sense. It jerks off “science” and is basically a metaphor for climate change but not a very good one.
The worst sin, though, is it never addresses the question everyone immediately asks: why don’t they just send back research, technology, and intelligence so the people in the past have 30 years to prepare? Never addressed, they just literally give fat and old people a gun, with no training, and throw them into the future to die pointlessly. It is even established that equipment and alien bio samples can go back in time, but no one bothers to do anything with this ability until the very end and not in a smart way.
The idea actually has potential. I was hoping for a twist where the “future” people were scamming the past. That it is a parallel universe (although set in the future) and they are tricking this “past” world into to fighting for it. Nope.
It’s basically the Chris-Pratt-kicks-alien-ass show. Oh and he has a lot of black people around him at all times. Somewhat overt agenda if you’re looking for it, but not obnoxious about it.
Try not to think too hard about the plot holes and it’s an okay enough action sci-fi. Just don’t expect much other than pew pew and exploding aliens. You really don’t care about any of the characters except Chris, but the aliens look cool at least.
I was scratching my head at this when I was shown the trailer. I don't understand why would they recruit people from the past to fight these things when they should've done some "All you need is kill" and use it to prepare humanity and take this out before it really gets going. Like you have time travel, tell the past humanity everything about the threat so they can slaughter the fuckers.
Like you have time travel, tell the past humanity everything about the threat so they can slaughter the fuckers.
Then there would be no need to...you know what, no. We've already done this "paradox" song and dance too many times. We already know how the argument goes. Another stupid shlockfest of a timetravel movie, this time with Starlord protecting Wokeanda.
Honestly time travel stories need to stop caring about paradoxes it’s a fairly simple solution of saying the alterations are permanent but the previous future no longer exists and it’s now a new timeline. Current travelers dissipating into nothingness optional for pointless emotional impact.
I don't know that a global draft is woke. I've seen the concept that, following contact with an alien race, the humans would unite as Earthlings. That, and the leftists I've heard speak on the issue what the draft done away with.
Ehhhh only if the aliens are a non active threat I’d say more likely for active threats is an initial few years of human unity then we devolve back into our normal ways of hating eachother constantly as the aliens fade into a general background fact of life.
I'd say the first day would see unprecedented looting if shit wasn't being summarily destroyed. Maybe half or less would actually fight against an existential threat, but the other half would be worried about basic survival, The other half would need to split their resources between other humans, basic survival, and a threat to humanity.
If it's a singular event, the "9/11" mindset could maintain control for a long time, though.
Is the movie any good? I'm completely shocked that they dared to put white characters on the title image. Not only that but the dude is front center? Wtf is going on.
Not only that but it's Chris Pratt, leftists have tried to cancel him forever because he's a conservative Christian
Perfect!
Nail on the head.
God they really think we're morons, don't they?

If it is possible to send a messenger 30 years into the past warning them of a future war, why would anyone's first response be to send soldiers into the future instead of taking advantage of your 30 year head start?
I'm pretty sure the messenger went back in time to tell them to get ready, not to take potentially important ancestors out of the gene pool.
Nope they literally draft people from the past to do seven-day tours in the future war zone. And most of them don’t make it back.

7 day tours? That doesn't even make sense.

And if you make it through your 7 days good for you.
If the life expectancy of your troops is less than 7 days there's no amount of troops that will help.
At that point your enemy is so technologically superior that there's nothing you could do.
Almost like 30 years of focused technological development would be a better use of the time travel technology.
Which is why they aren’t telling them them that and instead telling them they only have to do a 7 day tour.
Why only take advantage of 30 sure if time travel only works in 30 year increments fine but leapfrog back along and give yourself a hundred years of war prep and you’d be golden.
I wouldn't go back more than 60 years if I could avoid it, since you wouldn't want to inadvertently prevent the fall of the Soviet Union.

The Keikaku Parenthood keeps their numbers in check.

Why not forced sterilization? Make it a requirement to get welfare.

White guys need to sign up to fight aliens
Five minutes later: Oh no, the aliens dropped some nukes and killed all the white guys. That sucks.
Bro global warming is going to wake up the aliens. Eat bugs and live in pod immediately.
The aliens need us to wear masks because our giant animal maws disgust them.
Reeeee xenophobia!
Even having an evil white christian male holding one!

The creature designs were cool though.
From the trailer it seemed like "Edge of Tomorrow" light. Leave crazy Tom Cruise to alien ass kicking please.
Edge of Tomorrow is a very good/almost great movie.

Yeah, it's a trope. I think District 9 had a more realistic view.

The draft is a literary device, the message is one world government
someone Twitch streamed it that I watched. I cant imagine paying $14 or whatever the price is now to see that in a theatre. It was so bad.
I did not make it past the half way mark, but the movie was quite terrible. Atrocious writing, and Pratt wasnt his best
I skip-watched it in like 15 minutes. Oh god, I wish I had those 15 back so I could spend it taking a shit.
I'm sorry, if this was any bit realistic at all he'd have a bunch of autistic Asians as his support team.
