The synopsis sounds completely braindead, even before you get to the spoiler-y bit. If it is possible to send a messenger 30 years into the past warning them of a future war, why would anyone's first response be to send soldiers into the future instead of taking advantage of your 30 year head start?
Nope they literally draft people from the past to do seven-day tours in the future war zone. And most of them don’t make it back.
It insinuates that they are taking people they knew were going to be dead before the alien invasion begins, in order to avoid “paradox” but it doesn’t really make any sense.

It’s a lot easier to sell as a you will only have to be there 7 days… what could go wrong in 7 days. rather than You don’t reproduce anymore people and the rest of your life is insignificant so we can throw you into a meat grinder with almost no cost to our future. And if you make it through your 7 days good for you.
Why only take advantage of 30 sure if time travel only works in 30 year increments fine but leapfrog back along and give yourself a hundred years of war prep and you’d be golden.

I'm pretty sure the messenger went back in time to tell them to get ready, not to take potentially important ancestors out of the gene pool.

I wouldn't go back more than 60 years if I could avoid it, since you wouldn't want to inadvertently prevent the fall of the Soviet Union.
