We will inflate our way out of debt, it may spiral out of control to the point we adopt a new currency (ala Zimbabwe) or we have a couple very high-inflation decades. Either way, invest in capital. Labor and checking accounts are disadvantaged vs capital in high inflation times.
When hyperinflation takes hold, people will be demanding bigger social safety nets...which will result in more hyperinflation.
It may be a little while longer; the feds have been pretty effective at keeping gold and silver prices artificially low and fudging the real inflation numbers....not that any of that is a good thing.

They must inflate away 401(k) (and retirement accounts) to do this, which is worth 20+ trillion and is the bulk of middle class wealth, some the rest is housing. Single family housing will become too expensive to maintain and suburbs will collapse into the cities as well.
