Western culture has internalized the idea that 'being kind' is more important than making sensible decisions. This is a huge factor in the rapidly worsening problems we face as a society.

Look at the people with Ukraine flags in their bios and you will not see someone with opinions and feelings about a real world event, you will see someone avidly following the plot of a movie.

I think of ingroup preference as something that most groups have, only it's beaten and shamed out of the ones that aren't allowed to have it. But it's very plausible that being kicked out a bunch of countries and developing a 'it's us against the world' mindset would kick it into overdrive.

People do make their own individual choices. They must be held responsible for them. There are also terrible forces at work within society to brainwash and coerce and manipulate and suppress, and like any weed infestation, it will never go away until its roots are pulled out.

It doesn't completely match the blame that I often see attributed to secular jews but I guess religious teachings have a big impact on secular culture too.
