they're mad because they can't compete with fictional characters
They don't believe they can compete with fictional characters. Very important difference. I always want to ask these types if they believe that sex is the only thing of value they have to offer men. Even then, I really can't imagine any rational man honestly preferring fictional characters over a loving relationship with someone who really clicks with them.
Of particular note, the character in question was presented in her "adult" form long before it was revealed that she was even capable of changing her appearance, and even longer still before it was revealed that her natural age was 12. And even then she wasn't ever really one of the popular girls in the series among fans. That's one of the things that Oda is really great at though: subverting expectations about the characters in a way that is compelling and thought provoking rather than ham-fisted and mean spirited. He's even managed to create several "trans" characters that are actually well liked even by people who generally despise the current year LGBTQ bullshit.
They're mad that people generally have a positive view of Japan and it's media, while having a heavily negative view of their own bullshit. It destroys the narrative that people don't like them because they're bigots, and shows instead that they just suck ass at creating interesting and compelling media. One Piece specifically has tackled pretty much all of their pet issues in depth, but has done so in a way that isn't offensive to everyone else. Hell, one of the main protagonists is based pretty much directly upon gun loving hillbillies. Oh, and Bonney's father here is the shining ideal of a good, strong, Christian man who sacrificed everything for his daughter.
It's because straight white men are generally of the "turn the other cheek" mindset, so it's really easy to get their fix of righteous indignation by criticizing them without fear of any negative repercussions. Not saying that we ought to change in this regard, but I will call them out for their cowardly virtue signalling instead of focusing their efforts on real problems.
It was decided by people who want to enrage you so much that you'll fight tooth and nail to secure your cell in their new digital prison, content with your shackles because they allow you to enjoy the exact same things that you never needed their permission to believe in the first place.
Infantry for some (sony?) gaming launcher service that's long dead these days. It was a top down squad based multiplayer shooter with multiple modes that significantly changed up the game play. They had a regular military shooter, a soccer game, a space dogfight, and one of my favourite was a cat and mouse game with aliens hiding in the vents of a facility trying to take out all the soldiers on the other team. Apparently it's still going
Imperial Command was one of those real time online strategy games that was all the rage for a few years, where you start in a system with each team mate having their own planet, then you explore/conquer the galaxy full of other player "families."
"Men" isn't a singular organism with one set of ideas and ideals. When they look to porn to try and understand what men like they're getting input largely from the most fucked up and degenerate members of society, who dominate that space, instead of the type of men who actually seek romantic relationships, which are next to non-existent in the production of porn.
I'm reminded of a reddit post I saw a while ago asking why gamers set anime girls as their profile pictures, and the best reply was "because I like it and I don't care what you think." If these guys had gone the same rout I'd fully agree with them, but instead they have to wrap themselves up in lies to try and justify something that doesn't even need justification.
Huh, I took that line entirely differently than what it apparently means. I assumed it was something like: If you cut down a tree to build a home you're 'stealing' it from the birds that nested in it, the bugs that lived in it, etc...
I have trouble understanding the whole "self insert" thing. I get that different people experience media in their own ways, and there's nothing wrong with that, but the "self insert" thing gets pushed as though it's expected to be the norm for everyone. It's weird.
It's about optimizing their formula to provide the absolute minimum amount possible for each individual to maximize profits per capita, and one element is getting people used to the idea of accepting decisions which negatively impact them. Because the entire global economy is run upon the fundamental concept that profits trump absolutely everything else. The "climate emergency" would be easy to solve if we were willing to sacrifice profits as a society.
How can you not start to hate women after seeing all the blatant misandry thats on social media and everywhere else nowadays?
By recognizing that shitty people have always existed, and that good people still exist also. By recognizing that the Internet gives you a perspective on the world that is out of line with the actual reality of the world.
No, no, they have a point. We ought to make sure that fictional women present themselves similarly to how the most popular female media figures present themselves in real life. Lets start with OnlyFans and Twitch.
