Nah, cancel culture was and should always mean "getting fired for legal behaviour outside of work". As long as you are aware of a bias- especially if it aligns with yours- you will still be better informed than going in blind. If a friend or trusted reviewer says they like/dislike a game, a scale is useful for quantifying how much.
It doesn't need to be a perfect system to be useful.
