Set to release later today, Mina the Hollower is a retro Zelda-like indie game from the developers of Shovel Knight. It is on track to become the highest rated game of the year.
Before anyone goes and spends money on this (frankly mediocre looking) game, be aware that the developers, Yacht Club Games are turbowoke. They donated tens of thousands of dollars to a laundry list of leftist orgs including BLM, NAACP, and bail relief funds (aka funds to release violent black criminals back into the community).
Also worth noting: they created a gender swap mode for Shovel Knight in order to assuage their own guilt over choosing a male protagonist for their breakout hit. Of course Mina the Hollower uses a female protagonist from the jump. Some users have requested a gender swap for their new game, but apparently that's just not on the table. Imagine that.
I swore off any further purchases from Yacht Club after that idiotic Shovel Knight gender swap and them making such a big show of it.
It's always the same story with gender/race swaps. Changing from male or white is fine because those identity traits didn't impact the story, but changing from female or black is verboten because those identity traits always "inform the story".
And if that were true, rather than a bullshit excuse, then a female or black protagonist would always necessarily narrow your audience. Which it definitely does, but not for those reasons lol

The problem here is that Yacht Club made Shovel Knight back when indie games were actually making bangers. Shitlibbery aside, Shovel Knight is great. I'm actually fairly confident Mina will be pretty good as well.

No. If it isn't worth your money, then it isn't worth your time. Stop being the gamer equivalent of a coomer. Have some discipline and self respect. Reserve your precious time for great games that weren't made by people who hate you. There are already more of them then you could ever fully play in one lifetime.
I don't even necessarily disagree, but swearing off shitlib art blocks you from basically the past hundred years of output across all media. Art can be made by shitlibs that's still life affirming and good, making a hardline stance detrimental.

This might sound dumb, but I looked at it and while it's only somewhat in my wheelhouse, I wouldn't have bought it because the main character is some sort of furry thing. I just get a faggot Link to the Past vibe from it anyway.
Yeah the game might be alright, but I definitely don't see it being as popular because Shovel Knight is a fantastic character design and this mouse is just furry.
The mouse design is sauceless. Even Moushley had cuter appeal, and that was just a Resident Evil 4 meme.
I think it's partially the ambiguous nature of the design. If the game didn't tell me she was supposed to be a girl mouse, I wouldn't be able to tell. Not that she needs a big bow and eyelashes, but literally nothing about her shape or outfit implies any kind of femininity.
Reminder that Zelda A Link to the Past runs on anything for free and it's still a good game.

It's a shame. I adore 8-bit visuals and would've been all over this game if they hadn't pulled all this crap. Oh well, the demo looked like they were doing some really lazy stuff with the visuals anyway, so it's not too big of a loss.

It looks like it's trying to ape the Game Boy Color games while the background and props are simultaneously too detailed for the "system". It's somewhat uncanny if you've actually grown up in that era.
Super Nintendo style doesn't have that problem, but then you'd have to make the sprites and animations not look like ass.
I once looked up what virt / Jake Kauffman, Shantae's and Shovel knight's composer had been up to. I looked his works list and noticed he had massively slowed down since 2016. I tried finding out why and the only explanation I found was a reddit thread of someone claiming to have written to him. He blamed the political climate for his slump. So, TDS got to him bad.
He's the main composer for yatch club game. So, I'm not very surprised to learn the studio has been subverted by wokeness.
Kaufman lives in Los Angeles, so TDS was always going to be an inevitability.
