Chinese are legally bound to spy when called upon by the Chinese government, even if you've given up Chinese citizenship and naturalized as us citizen, your family that remain in China will be used as hostages against you. That's rarely needed as most Chinese are still loyal to Chyna despite living in the west for decades.
I remember Leftists crying ''racial discrimination'' as to why federal agencies rejected otherwise qualified Americans of Chinese ancestry at extremely high rates.
It's because those were applications for sensitive positions and most of them had family in China that would be used to pressure them into acting as spies for China.
