Healthy looking. Mostly White (there's an Asian chick and a sort of brown guy who might just be Mediterranean). Natural hair colors. No troons. No obesity. No visible piercings or degeneracy. Healthy people create quality art.
Expedition 33 earned their sweep. This was the biggest "fuck you" to modern gaming I've ever seen. $50 price tag while the AAA giants were actively campaigning for $80 price hikes. Free DLC that AAA companies would have charged for. Less than $10 million budget while Concord cost $300 million. Corporate executives should be crapping their pants right now.
They both have the same number of workers though. It's just that the AAA studios hire hundreds (or thousands) of fake workers that are part of their cult. Together, they just steal stockholders' money while producing literally nothing.
The silver lining is that the future will be filled with small studios cranking out AAA quality games, and there's nothing the woke faggot AAA studios can do to stop it.
I understand the frustration, but I'll also argue that UE5 levels the playing field so that smaller studios like the Expedition 33 developers can compete against the AAA giants. FWIW, I dumped 100+ hours into E33 immediately after launch, found two bugs on the overworld map that were later patched, and otherwise had no performance problems. I hesitantly agree with Epic that a lot of UE5 problems are coming from bad developers.
It seems to function better with more linear games. Open world of where you really run into that trademark traversal stutter. Also helps if the devs turn off nanite and lumen, which is tantamount to reverting the whole engine to 4.0 lol
This is healthy to you? There's a whopping 1 dude there who could help me move a couch. Everyone else looks like they get their nutrition from an automatic cat-feeder.
But after seeing so much I can get why assumptions are made. Like I rarely watch stuff made after 2014 but there is good stuff out there being made. So I can’t write everything off
One title is one title. If a shitty movie comes out, I don't just immediately assume the next ten movies I see will be shitty. If I play a shitty game, I don't just immediately assume the next ten games I play will be shitty. That'd be retarded to think.
There's so much good shit made after 2014. If you want to avoid it because you're worried it might be bad, have at it. I don't let such an inconsequential fear run my life.
Just as with this I'll notice and get around to it eventually. It will still be there in five years. I have no need to feel like I'm playing what just came out.
Just out of curiosity, do you ever have to move out of the way of boats when you are out walking on water? You just come off as a pretentious jerk. Maybe you aren’t but I hope you don’t have a holier than thou attitude with people in your life. You seem to live to wag your finger at everyone. If I don’t like something it’s because of fear and not because I don’t like it. Well whatever floats your boat. I know you said you like “podunk” groups like this but that kinda speaks to the kind of person you are. Please read a book about humility.
I don't, no. Because people in my life aren't making a stink about this sort of thing. We just talk about games that we have had fun playing. Life's too short to go on a tirade about how much we don't like a game when there are plenty more things to talk about about things that are fun and enjoyable to us.
I was taught humility at a very young age. My high school actually had great programs and classes that revolved around being men (I went to an all boys school) who would help others. In this, we learned how meaningless it was to get upset at things we didn't have control over, such as someone else's art. Why bother? So someone made something that we don't like, is that really worth it? Are we so self-centered that all art must cater to our tastes? Of course not, that'd be ridiculous.
There's a great book I've read, in part about humility, called "the courage to be disliked." In it, it talks about another aspect of humility, where people get all these sorts of insecurities thinking that everyone is so concerned with how they act, how the look, how they talk, how they dress, that they spend all their time trying to cater to the masses instead of being what they truly are, and speaking their mind.
It helped me greatly in not being so wrapped up in thinking that everyone has these high expectations of me, and embrace instead that I can live my life comfortably, embracing and understanding flaws within myself and within others. It offers a great perspective on forgiving yourself and recognizing the bigger picture of what's important.
Ok but you sometimes do come across as a Red Sox fan going into a Yankees fan group for the sole purpose of bugging Yankees fans. I do try ti make more fun nerdy posts. I get that not everything will cater to you and as I told you I’m retro so I could be happy with stuff from past decades. I did scratch my head and wonder why IPs started to attack their core audience, granted I could just ignore it and focus on what I do like. With Star Wars for instance I realized I didn’t care for their brand of Star Wars so I cancelled d plus and just consume Star Wars movies and books from before the sale. Found some EU book clubs and it’s fun. I honestly came to that conclusion with various things and decided to enjoy what I like even if that makes me more retro.
I’m not the best Christian but I try despite my stumbling. I’m well aware of the humility lessons. I’m currently reading The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry which is about slowing down and taking time to pray or meditate and not worrying about things that don’t matter.
I would say it's more a Red Sox fan going into a Yankees fan group wondering why they're talking about how much they hate the Yankees and how they wish that the team was more like the Mets.
Just...don't be a Yankees fan. Go root for the Mets. It's not that big of a deal.
Liking retro makes plenty of sense. Avoiding modern because you assume content doesn't.
Endless diversity talk happens primarily on these sorts of forums where everyone gets in a tizzy whenever a character is nonwhite. Even on this thread, you scroll down and someone is showing deep concern about the size of Lara's forehead. It's wild to me how much people care about something so dumb. I'm also on reddit gaming forums and I rarely see talk about diversity.
To me, that aspect is way far down on the list of things that make a game enjoyable. I don't care if the main character is white, asian, woman, man, crosseyed, or with two peg legs. If the gameplay is good, that's all that matters.
I never cared either but I did notice when gaming magazines or comic industry constantly talked about diversity. I’m black and never cared about skin color or female characters in games/books/movies. I did find it annoying to be told I need to see myself in everything. I can see myself in plenty of things. Always connected with Superman and Spider-Man for one thing. Like that stupid actress for that Star Wars show saying she was making a safe place for black nerds. I was like I’m twice your age and never needed a safe space. What I see on here is understandable pushback in a lot of cases. As a book reader some of my favorite authors are women. I’ve done some writing. If I ever make it big I want to be known as a good writer
Part of humility is understanding that it isn't always about you.
I'm glad you felt safe in your nerd culture. I have black friends that can't always say the same. I have black friends with kids who were so excited to see a black spiderman movie because they wanted someone on TV that looked like them.
Sure, you never needed a safe space. Why assume she was talking to you, specifically? You're twice her age, so obviously she is growing up in a different era of nerd culture. Other kids are too. Maybe you need a book on humility as well.
I plan on getting this. Don’t buy many new games but I’ll make an exception for this one while I wait for Elder Scrolls 6 since I know that game will be amazing and outsell Skyrim, and then I can go online and pre-order Winds of Winter (a man can dream)
I had to give that a second read to pick out the sarcasm. I know you talk about Elder Scrolls a ton so had to decide if you believed it would be good. I think there's a better chance I look outside this very instant and see Jesus riding a unicorn through on top of a lake than Elder Scrolls 6 being any good. Just looked out, didn't see anything.
Yea unlike Winds of Winter I do believe elder scrolls will come out eventually but they have taken so long that there is no way they will be able to live up to the hype. As for the winds of winter maybe when he dies the publisher will take what he has and put out the last two books or maybe the publisher can get a writer to finish. Final method would be just letting advanced AI finish it
I think E33 is a competent game but the glazing of the story makes me fucking crazy. The twist was so bad I couldn't be bothered to finish the game. Cheap knock-off of FFX plot if you ask me.
Game was okay, but kinda overhyped. Once the big plot twist was revealed, I completely lost interest in the story. Shit was stupid AF. Star Ocean 3 - Till the End of Time Levels of stupid.
Also the characters looking like hobos the entire game was annoying

Don't forget that there's only 16 of them. A modern AAA studio has hundreds of employees and thousands more contract workers from the third world.
Unfortunately they still used UE5 which is why I'll probably never buy the game. I fucking hate that engine with passion.
It's both. The graphical glitches are inherent to the engine. Threat Interactive is a great channel that does deep dives into the problems of UE5.
Here's their video about 33:

Satisfactory is in UE5, but they did indeed turn off lumen, and only use nanite sparingly and never on vegetation.
This is healthy to you? There's a whopping 1 dude there who could help me move a couch. Everyone else looks like they get their nutrition from an automatic cat-feeder.
yep. look at asian dev teams too.
They look like normal people, makes sense they're successful.
Wow weird, looks like a actual group of people that you can call a team. Not a assortment of departments
the contrarian in me has been avoiding Expedition 33, is it worth taking a look? What's the gameplay loop like? (movie game? action? puzzler? cyoa?)
Turn based combat like old FF games. WIth active parry/interrupt
Very long cut scenes, lots of dialogue. It's very well put together. I'm like halfway thru, decent overall.
got it, definitely not my cup of tea. I'm glad the movie game crowd is enjoying it though.
It is more comparable to ff7-8 in terms of story cut scenes.
I guess I need to get it. I’d heard about and just assume it was woke by virtue of newness.
It's fine, you'll like it if you enjoy turn-based RPGs. It's not woke. It's just not as incredible as everyone would have you believe.
They tricked casuals into liking a JRPG basically.
Fair warning, I eyerolled watching a friend play it originally because of the background NPC demographics in that setting.
But that issue goes away fairly early on.
That’s kind of the problem these days. People just want to assume things are one way without doing any research at all
But after seeing so much I can get why assumptions are made. Like I rarely watch stuff made after 2014 but there is good stuff out there being made. So I can’t write everything off
I can't.
