Traffic enforcement brings in more revenue than dealing with violent crime. That doesn't mean that the priority of a police force should be speeding tickets. Collegiate sports were created so students could engage in structured physical activity, not so universities could transition into event promoters.

It surprised the hell out of me, but NCAA basketball makes well over a billion(1.38 billion) in TV ad sales just in the month of March. NCAA football apparently only brings in 1.1 billion in TV ad sales for the entire year, though it probably makes more in actual ticket sales since the outdoor stadiums are bigger.
culture wars aside, I am genuinely shocked that more companies aren't doing this. the quality of college graduates has dropped sharply over the past 10 years, to the point where large companies should be getting a much bigger return on investment taking on high school grads as interns and teaching them specifically to the company's needs, starting them out in entry level jobs when they finish the program.
When I was a hiring manager, I didn't even look at college experience. I literally only considered work experience. If I had the oversight over bottom-level entry jobs, I wouldn't even care about the work experience. I can only hope this becomes the norm, but I think many hiring managers specifically want college indoctrination on the resume. Regardless of job skills.
The flip side of that is that HS graduating Gen Z & alpha cohorts are more useless, retarded & diverse than even before.
Most postsecondary training is also useless, but at least there's a better chance of some maturation & personal growth that could/should come from that time of their lives that would make them slightly more employable.
The grift in higher education kept getting worse. This won't redress this issue, though. Just a sidestep that was probably already available for some highly gifted individuals.

Like how nearly all female sports programs are funded by male football. Occasionally by their basketball too.
That is entirely school dependent. The university I graduated from couldn't even fill the stadium on a homecoming game.
