Hope y’all have a great day and enjoy the food and family. I’ll probably do the usual with food and family time along with watching my favorite team (Dallas Cowboys) play. Will try to squeeze in some modded Skyrim and watch Planes, Trains, and Automobiles. Then tomorrow it’s time to decorate for Christmas

There are oddly few Thanksgiving movies. Even for girl shit like Hallmark, there's no Thanksgiving movies. Of course Hallmark has been playing Christmas movies since mid-October.
Happy Thanksgiving Smith and everyone else.
Gotchu covered: Trains Planes and Automobiles.
Happy Thanksgiving.
Thanksgiving movies would most likely be limited to the US domestic market, whereas Christmas movies are broadcasted across the globe. The royalties from reruns probably add up substantially in the long term.
That makes so much sense and should have been super obvious.
Well there is official movie now called "Thanksgiving". Horror slasher type. It's good for what it is.
Other movies that remind me of fall: Goonies ET Nightmare before Christmas (a mix between Halloween and Christmas) The Skulls
That is true, for as big of a holiday as Thanksgiving is you’d think there would be more movies. I enjoy the Hallmark movies. I watch Great American Family a little more. Since Candy died when I was an early teen his movies always give me childhood nostalgia. If you haven’t seen it, check out his documentary on Prime called I Like Me. I’d still love a Kenosha Kickers jacket
Walmart has it for $70 and Christmas is around the corner if you need an excuse to gift yourself something
Really?! Will look into it. I actually bought an accordion earlier this year and am looking to learn polka
Oh your poor neighbors
I’ll have them singing Roll out the barrels in no time
This might be the most unlikely combination of words from a poster I've seen here, to this point. Good job, Smitty.
Ha! Well a few years back I started enjoying Polka. So now I hope to be able to play it eventually
Good luck football nerds, I hope your game is exciting and memorable.
To everyone else, I hope your dinners are filling, your guests pleasant, and your holiday refreshing. Happy Thanksgiving!
Thanksgiving was in Oct, ya silly non-Canadian geese!! And who puts a holiday on a Thursday, seriously?
Remember to do a native land acknowledgement!!
My ancestry dna said I was 2 or 3% Native American so I’ll acknowledge myself lol. I’ve always meant to research Canadian Thanksgiving. Do yall have the same kind of food during the meal, after Thanksgiving do people in Canada go straight to Christmas mode?
Yes, Canadians do essentially eat the same Thanksgiving fare as Americans - turkey, ham, mashed potatoes, roasted vegetables, stuffing, cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie, etc. There's probably some regional variations. Sweet potatoes aren't as ubiquitous here but still exist & are sometimes used. Things like cornbread aren't.
Canadian Thanksgiving occurs in early-mid Oct about 5-6 weeks prior to the burger one. Historically because the harvest & frost north of 49 comes much, much earlier. The holiday for most people is celebrated on a Sunday, but the actual stat holiday is on a Monday. This allows fot travel and all government/banks/retail is closed on Monday the business day when few actual family gatherings are taking place.
There's no sports or other traditions associated with Leaf Thanksgiving. The Grey Cup, Canada's bizarro football Super Bowl, takes place on a separate weekend (and no one gives a shit about the league otherwise).
Canadian Thanksgiving also provides the first holiday weekend for those attending college away to return home after being gone for 4-6 weeks for the first time in their adult lives. It also unfortunately overlaps with the first semester's midterms.
I personally took the bus home when in uni for the first Thanksgiving away and then never again after having to ride the overnight red eye as a poor fag without a car. I ended up sleeping away all of Sat to recover, eat turkey Sunday then had to do it all over again Monday morning.
People do start transitioning to Christmas early up north, but not quite as early as Thanksgiving. It tends to start snowing a few weeks later around Halloween traditionally. People usually go big for Halloween after Thanksgiving a few weeks later.
There's also a scold position that used to be repeated a lot that Canucks shouldn't decorate for Xmas until Nov 12th, the day after Rememberance Day where the country honours their war dead (Canucks don't do both Veterans & Memorial Day, just this Nov 11th).
Nov 11th is a strange holiday as it's not a stat. Children remain in school, the private sector stays at work and only banks & civil servants get any leave.
Thank you for the info. That is very interesting. Yea, the only time I got Veterans Day off was when I was in the Air Force.
As OP I'll confirm what u/Benevolentdictator said. Christmas stuff in stores like the US comes out right after Halloween, I'm one who thinks you should wait until after Remembrance Day but some start after Halloween. Here in Alberta we have mashed turnips a lot but don't think I've seen sweet potatoes. Don't think I've seen green bean casserole either, green beans on their own yes.
I've also never seen mac & cheese at Thanksgiving or Christmas. I remember when I first heard of that watching Everybody Hates Chris and thought "They make Kraft Dinner for Thanksgiving????" 😂
We had Mac and cheese in our meal today. But the rest was typical thanksgiving food
I was once wearing a t-shirt I bought in Halifax and coincidentally wore it at home (Texas) on that day. I got wished happy thanksgiving randomly in a parking lot and that totally caught me off guard.
I wouldn’t mind thanksgiving being in October myself. If you travel for family and ever end up doing thanksgiving and Christmas it’s a bit of a lot in a little time. That’s my selfish reason.
Smoking TWO turkeys, the only way to properly cook a turkey!
Smoked turkey is amazing. My dad is smoking one today
Happy thanksgiving ya turkeys!
Not going to the relatives this year, thank God, just a day of staying home chilling with the family, drinking a few beers and play some OG Mount and Blade Warband for the first time in a few years after seeing Bannerlord has a new expansion released. Bannerlord never clicked with me, but picking off heads with a bow while on a horse in full charge in Warband? Baby, that's just a good time.
I have that game on my wishlist on Steam. Need to finally buy it
I ran the stock game (unmodded), last night to make sure it works on a modern gaming pc and it ran great, gonna try fiddling with the Floris mod later to see if it works. There are tons of mods for it too.
for $5 it's a great deal, but be ready for jank and a not so steep yet somewhat awkward system that once you figure out, it's a lot of fun.
Thank you mate. Hope you have some really nice time. A bit soon on Christmas decorations for me, we usually set them up on the 1st but this year we may do it on 6 or 7 of December.
I do admit this is my favorite time of the year :)
My plan will be setting up the ever-increasing train set that my kids like and my wife hates :)) She told me not to buy another extension this year.
We already had our up December 27th.
I get excited about Christmas on January 1st and hold in the excitement til November 1st. Is it one of those massive train sets that takes up the room? That’s awesome! Still going to church?
Yes and Yes. It's good to go to church :) been the one great thing during this uncertain times.
The train takes the entire room :) Was planning to extend it between 2 rooms but my wife would throw it away if I did that.
I do love Christmas.
So happy to hear that! I listen to Christmas music and watch Christmas movies year round. I sing in the choir at my church and mid December we have a Christmas program where we read scripture and sing carols. Afterwards we do a chili cook off because it’s what good Texans do.
Happy Thanksgiving
Reading or watching anything good?
Happy thanksgiving! I'm thankful this place exists.
I'm going to be relaxing while hoping my project associates send me some important files before Monday. Yay.
Well enjoy the relaxation
Happy Thanksgiving. I'm spending time with family as others; and I'm also counting my blessings. I have my health, a good career, a bed where I get a good night's sleep, a roof on my head, paid bills and a rainy day fund, friends and family who care for each other; and if I remain obedient until His appointed time, I will get to spend eternity in the presence of God who has a winepress of wrath reserved for all the evil in this world.
Amen
Thanks Smith! You too, bud!
