I'm doing a reinstall of Windows 11 for my mother and I'm going for a set and forget setup that isn't a nightmare from a security/privacy perspective. I'm thinking Brave for the browser but I wanted to know if people here have any better ideas. Mainly I need something that isn't a vector for malware and doesn't require constant tinkering.

I'm using Brave on Win and Android and haven't had any reason to look for another browser.
Updates just install seemlessly and don't require tinkering and I think it's a good baseline of ad/privacy blockers that work well enough that they don't break websites for normies.
Personally I'm also using Noscript on Desktop for extra protection but that's not really suitable for most people.
I’ve been using script safe on brave which is similar to NoScript on Firefox
brave is so ubiquitous now that I would not be surprised if it's compromised from a privacy standpoint. it's still the best consumer browser with an excellent ad block.
Brave if you want Chromium-based, LibreWolf if you want Firefox-based.
Librewolf is run by woke idiots. I use Zen mostly because it's firefox based and I have no clue what's going on with them outside of the browser development.
Brave search on the other hand is top notch.
Zen is literally fast as greased lightning made by a dev who cares about speed and optimisation.
It's a real shame about the UI choice though or it would be my choice as well.
I autohide the UI and use tridactyl extension because I wish everything in my life was a vim hell.
:s/ll\.$/aven.
Why? Genuinely curious.
I hate using a mouse. I prefer to use a tui over any gui application any day of the week. If I can keep my hands on the keyboard, all the better.
I use Ungoogled Chromium
I've used Brave for years. It's a good option for your use case. Requires zero tinkering and it just fucking works.
I use waterfox as my main browser, and vivaldi as a light weight backup. On my phone I use brave.
Wdym? Windows 11 is the vector for malware
Echoing what others have said. Brave is Chromium. Its good on phones but for desktops, start using Waterfox.
I use brave but am also curious for answers to your question.
you know I know less than nothing Tech-related. Wanna start a thread in c/Ladies & we can have a chat ... :)
Sure, do you want me to start it or would you prefer to start?
well, 4 years ago I started this https://communities.win/c/Ladies/p/141EiSyNUt/would-you-sisters-please-help-me/c , so either I or you can start another 1, Or we could just continue there...
We can continue in the old link, just chime my username with your question. Fair warning, I'm not very good with tech stuff myself.
this should be fun, LOL
brave or floorp also looks decent and can easiely import bookmarks and you can also install most addons.
I use Brave, Iridium, TOR, and Edge (yes, Edge) depending on what I'm up to. Brave is my daily driver and I've yet not been able to find a replacement for it in that capacity. I used to use Pale Moon and Iridium for everything, but eventually found too many conflicts with sites I frequented. Brave is easily the best option for any normie or normie-friendly activity.
yeah brave is what i put on my grandma's phone, i use it on my android and my gaymen laptop and i have it as my second browser on my primary laptop
yes, if only for adlbock and ublock origin
Firefox with ublock origin. https://kagi.com/orion/ on apple shit
I also use Vivaldi. Don't think Brave Is really doing much. Use a VPN
iOS Safari with adblock I'm now getting ads on patriots.win, but with Brave no ads.
I tried Zen, had a couple issues with it. All the other firefox derivatives also, I just went with vanilla Firefox for general browsing hardened as best as possible and with brave as a backup(because some websites just run really shitty sometimes sadly).
An alternative is needed as they allow woke faggots to slander people on the community forums, ignore complaints about woke ads* with progress pride imagry, and ban you if lolisho gets brought up in regards to their search engine and you complain when you request someone get banned for spreading conspiracy theories about pedophilia without evidence in relation to loli.

Is there a reason no one has mentioned DDG?
Yes, because this thread's about Brave's browser, not their search engine.
Just saw recently that DDG jumped from mobile to desktop browser as well. Always preferred DDG to brave as a browser.
DDG's executive is also woke as shit.
Brave's adblocker still works on the browser version of streaming platforms.
Controls aren't too complicated.
It's not too ''heavy'' to run on a low pereformance computer or tablet/phone.
Installed it years ago and never looked back.
Their ''reward program'' with adds isn't worth it ( the goalposts shifted so far there never was anything to redeem for me so I turned it off long ago ).
OperaGX has been what I've been using for a few years. I find it to be really damn good and really damn tewakable under the hood. I like browsers that I can play with their insides. With ABP, script safe and tamper monkey all going at once, he's been the best Brower I've ever used.
I'll stick with windows 10, for the same reason. 11 can fuck itself.
