If communication devices can share the internet then a lot of the damage from these locked-down cell radios can be routed around, and no cellphones having any internet sharing capability will be really hard to enforce.
I think a few people already have. Back in 2004, or maybe 05, I saw a lady on a plane that had a voice modem of some kind hooked to a battery on one side and an actual land line phone on the other. All inside a handbag.
She said that a rechargable power brick is all that was needed to make calls to anywhere no matter where she was. And to prove it, she let me use the phone.
And it worked.

Fuck google. I wish there were more Linux phone types. I've only found one and it blows trying to install it and doesn't seem to have much support.

Just going to push more people to rooting their devices. I already have to do that to rip out most of the bloatware that comes preloaded onto any new device, so I'm used to it, but it'll be interesting to see if this can push more normies into trying to take control of their devices back from the megacorps.

I no longer want a mobile computer and my communication device to be the same thing. I'd rather carry a small tablet and a dumb phone around now.
I've had a relatively good experience with the Sunbeam. It isn't like the old school phones that could tank their way through 15 years of service scuffed but unscathed, but it's supplied what I want in a phone and they have models that strip out everything including texting if you want that level of anti-tech.
i posted this(more diplomatically) on hipsternews already, but IMO this is not a bad thing. It will teach people to have a cheap phone for connectivity and corpo crap, and a real phone for their actual life. and once you get onto those rails, corpoworld is really good at railroading you into full opposition.
