I want to sell my $10 chicken in China, which has 300% tariffs on US goods, meaning it would have to sell for $40 in China, $30 of that going straight to the Chinese economy/government. But Chinese cars can sell here at no markup.

But Chinese cars can sell here at no markup.

Worse! Not only without any markup, but even under fair market value, since they're made with slave labor and subsidies for "developing nations." It's one thing to import cheap plastic appliances, but it's another thing to undermine such a major economic driver like the auto industry. The CCP are ingrained cheaters and don't know how to do business any other way. They cheat their neighbors and they cheat their own people, which is why every Asian and African country hates them.

How can the neighbor afford to buy that horse if he only sells one chicken?

That's what a trade deficit is.

They assume everyone has the same amount of money.

When two countrys have a company that exclusively sells chickens and one country tariffs the other’s chickens while subsidizing their country’s company is that a good trade deficit? These retards are completely incapable of having an honest conversation.

A more apt example would be one country selling their chickens at a loss in a neighboring country with the intent of bankrupting their neighbor so they can monopolize their market and raise prices later. That's how China operates.

These retards are completely incapable of having an honest conversation.

Of course not. Remember "they just want to get married" and "you can keep the doctor you have" and "it's not a recession" and ...

I don't see a logical chain to a point. Are you competing with your neighbor? Does your family's quality of life depend on raising horses or chickens?

It's simpler than that.

When you traded with your neighbor the money didn't leave the local economy.

That's it. That's the game with tariffs. It makes more sense when you remember that banks used to have to settle with each other in physical pallets of gold.

My rebuttal: You fat, ugly and stupid, so shut up!

Oh wait 😄 you already said that.

Yep. Not even kidding either.

Placing any value on the opinions and arguments of people who are abject failures simply makes no sense.

I’m not that knowledgeable on farming but even I know a horse is way more expensive than a chicken.

Trade deficit thing was supposed to be a way to get around the games China plays with false numbers and subsidies and currency manipulation and such. I don’t think it was a good metric but that was the intent.

The tariff for tariff thing makes sense. Trade deficit thing was a flawed way of getting around China asshoe’ing people. Good for negotiation though. Talk to a country and maybe if they export a bunch to us, they can agree to buy the energy they’re already buying, but from us, at a fair or equal price. China doesn’t want to negotiate though.

Hard to say how it’ll turn out with them. Everyone else mostly said “okay, let’s talk about it” and that was it.

A live chicken costing only 10 dollars after a massive purge of the stock is pretty suspect and selling a horse for 9k is freaking huge profit margins (average horse is 1k not 9k).

Never mind the obvious retort that a single transaction between two neighbours does not accurately describe the full trade between two nations which is where a trade deficit actually matters as this dictates a general transfer of wealth and prosperity; this smug dude is ripping off his neighbour and calling the deal fair. Even without tarrifs this example demonstrates that this trade is unfair and his neighbour is being abused as badly as the US is. You justify tarrifs with this example because one dude is buying at margins the other is profiteering.

They would call tariffs late stage capitalism if the sides were reversed.

It’s lunacy how easy it is for media to program leftists against their own interests. You want good jobs with benefits, without being forced to go to college just to get those good jobs, YOU NEED TARIFFS to make it happen. Manufacturing is what built the strongest middle class in history right here in the U.S., and tariffs were THE ONLY reason corporations weren’t able to outsource to foreign slave labor just to maximize profits, well, weren’t able to outsource until after corporate and Wall Street jews got their way with NAFTA and GATT, removing the tariff barrier that stopped them from outsourcing labor costs to 3rd world nations. Here’s the good news: because Americans had a good 50 year run with manufacturing providing jobs to the uneducated masses of Americans, we built up an absurd amount of wealth in the middle class demographic, and there is a lot of that residual wealth still here in the U.S., enough to make the U.S. market the most sought after place for jews to sell their foreign slave made goods, a market none of those corporations are willing to give up EVEN IF our politicians tell the corporations and wall street jews that they don’t have a choice, either pay tariffs so costly that it’ll be cheaper to hire Americans, or fuck off. Those corporations have no choice in the matter, they either boycott the U.S. market and watch their profits drop to an unsustainable level, or they hire Americans to manufacture for them, and once that happens, they will be forced to compete for American laborers, which means we get benefits, more vacation time, and higher pay, and the Wall Street jews see a serious drop in profits, although still sustainable. Our politicians could’ve brought back that dynamic anytime they wanted to, which they should’ve done the moment they saw entire cities and towns that were thriving, be destroyed by NAFTA, turning them all into wastelands within a decade or two. Sadly, our politicians work for corporate and Wall Street jews so they refused to do anything to help Americans out because it would’ve hurt their bosses profits.

The ability leftists show in avoiding & evading reality never ceases to amaze me.
Just when you think "they cannot possibly get any worse! Not any stupider!" It does.

Not even close.
Two neighbors both raise chickens for a living. When they go to market? Neighbor A sells them at market value, say $10. Neighbor B has to pay a tariff of $5 per chicken, so he either has higher priced chickens or makes barely anything after selling them.
So B can try to get tariffs on A too, is that evil somehow? To ask for a level playing field?

The #1 reason why there's a US- China trade deficit is because of huge Chinese tariffs on US goods.

It "can be" simplified to that, I tried in my comment above.

But comparing chickens to horses? In a completely different set of circumstances? Ignoring the reality of markets, trade, production & etc? That's a special kind of stupid right there, eh.

With trade agreements how will tariffs compensate for the elimination of income taxes?
