I don't see a logical chain to a point. Are you competing with your neighbor? Does your family's quality of life depend on raising horses or chickens?
It's simpler than that.
When you traded with your neighbor the money didn't leave the local economy.
That's it. That's the game with tariffs. It makes more sense when you remember that banks used to have to settle with each other in physical pallets of gold.
