At least when it comes to anime/manga, this is how it went:
One day, a mangaka made the demons misunderstood good guys, because it's a twist. Pacifist orc chef? What an original idea! We need an institutional enemy that acts inside a kingdom: oh, a church, of course.
Then, these things became tired tropes out of the sheer mediocrity that humanity averages at.
Season 1 is really good. After that it's kind of "up & down" but still good overall.
The key is: Goblins are just plain evil. Period. Thy capture human women, gang rape them as forced breeding stock and kill any human males they come across.
Slayer is just that. He's here to kill goblins, ALL of them. As efficiently as possible, but messy is good too. As long as they're dead.
My ''expectations have been surverted'' to the point I roll my eyes in advance when the badass epic masked mysterious ninja shows up because I already know the strongest character will be a woman. Or a 12 years old girl.
See, how this wiki usually works, the individual entries have a separate image from every single edition of D&D, but for "Human" there are only entries for the 3rd and 4th editions and they are pics of an asian and a black woman. It's like Humans weren't a part of D&D before then.
The same used to go for their entry for "Fighter," but they've since sanitized that page somewhat. Still no straight, White men, though.
You mean to tell me that people would ACTUALLY enter into a religious organization, rise through the ranks, make it to the top, purely so they gain wealth and power and dictate people's lives through their religious beliefs? No one would ever do that in the real world. I mean, you'd never hear any real life story of a religious leader convincing all his followers to kill themselves, or a religious leader convincing his followers to go on a murderous rampage for 1400 years. (Obvious sarcasm)
Did I say that all (or even the majority) of religious people were power hungry tyrants? No. I stated a fact that power hungry people, sociopaths, and even psychopaths will use religion to gain money, power, and influence. I swear, this site is all "religion = 100% good!" and when you criticize that they jump down your throat with "NOT ALL RELIGIOUS PEOPLE!!!!!" completely ignoring the irony of that statement with this sites hatred of muslims, jews, blacks, and indians.
Religion definitely does not equal 100% good. Your statement is a sarcastic reddit tier response implying that the memes hyperbolic "all priests are evil" message is true. So yes, you did do that, with the pilpullisb response you jidt gave ready to be an oit for it if met with any opposition. You're better than that, white man.
You obviously lack reading comprehension as my original comment was clearly conveying (as my next comment elucidated) the FACT that people will abuse other's religious beliefs for their own person gain to which I gave 2 very real and very lethal examples. And the memes point (which I was criticizing) was "how dare they say that religious leaders can be evil and self-serving!". And I don't need an "out", you responded to my comment saying "NOT ALL RELIGIOUS PEOPLE!!!!" and my second comment pointed out the irony (or rather hypocrisy) that when it comes to religion this site screams "NOT ALL RELIGIOUS PEOPLE!!!" but when it comes to race and nationality they're perfectly willing to paint with a more broad brush. The idea that that is, in some way, a prepared "out" when it was a deliberate reply to your specific comment shows that you lack logical thinking.
Sister Semple, Elizabeth Clare Prophet, Jim Jones, That dude in Japan with the Sarin gas, Moon... just off the top of my head. That's just for "wealth and power" though, they rarely take over nations. Unless you count Pol Pot or North Korea as religious (communism can be a religion) takeovers?
Not that I agree with ilirrem or anything, but there have been quite a few over the years. They tend to self-destruct or lose appeal & followers rather quickly.
You fell for the psyop. Jonestown wasn't a religious enclave it was a communist one. And an enormous amount of time and energy was spent covering that up, and so everyone thinks it was some crazy Christian cult.
While it's pretty fucking awful to listen to, well, listen to the Jonestown audio. It makes it pretty clear.
Jonestown was literally founded as a place to live their perfect Communist utopia. A bunch of shit happened, and Jim Jones's enforcers ended up killing a congressman. Welp, Jim knew that that meant the USG was going to come absolutely fucking end them, so he gathered everyone together and busted out the Flavor-Ade.
The audio is like 10% religious and 90% him lamenting the failure of their communist dream. His #2 was some nigress and she talks about the horrors of 'racism' and 'capitalism' and that they all need to die to prove some kind of point.
And the first two barely count. Not sure why Aimee Semple is even on this list unless you are seriously intent on twisting the intent of the comic/llirrem's statement. And Elizabeth Clare Prophet was fairly harmless, just a moonbat who made people dig holes for an apocalypse that didn't happen.
All in all the point is that these kinds of people are ridiculously rare compared to how Le Enlightened Atheists like to pretend they are. Because guess what, it turns out getting a bunch of lunatics to go along with another lunatic is actually extremely hard to pull off which is why most lunatics are lone-wolf operatives.
Unless you count Pol Pot or North Korea as religious (communism can be a religion)
Literally all politics can be, religion is basically just a deeply-personally-held ethos.
Jonestown wasn't a religious enclave it was a communist one.
He used the "cloak" of Christianity to cover his real beliefs. He was far from sane of course, but an expert manipulator. Not only of his followers but everyone he met, apparently. Like First Lady Carter for example.
I have listened to several of his sermons & broadcasts. Not all the way (some are hours long!) I'd lose what's left of my sanity, eh? Then There's This from a Canadian band. Every song on their EP was terrific, I played the vinyl half to death! Then I contracted a CD of it, best $50 I spent, he sent be a pristine LP too!
Right: Semple and Prophet were in it for the money and/or the power trip. They didn't mean harm to their followers, and kept it "in the family" in terms of control.
Pol Pot pounded (literally, physically) his belief system into his followers, and then into the helpless citizens of Cambodia. It was as close to "true communism" we've seen thus far, I think :/
(I didn't downvote you, I gave an upvote for good & polite reply! Cheers!)
Lack of introspection coupled with MASSIVE projection has ruined western fantasy.
The religious order that I hated growing up with HAVE to be evil in this fantasy game I made/stole.
This 'evil' race is just misunderstood like I was growing up...
At least when it comes to anime/manga, this is how it went:

Then, these things became tired tropes out of the sheer mediocrity that humanity averages at.
Then Goblin Slayer and Frieren: Beyond Journey's End made anime great again!
Goblin Slayer even featured a moment of
Is Goblin Slayer good? I thought it was generic grimlight adventuring, only notable for its anime’s shock-value start.
It's good because it's a breath of fresh air in a sea of "misunderstood bad guys" slop.
If it came out 10 years ago it would have been mid.
It came out 7 years ago.
We're almost there...
Masculine heroes are gold in the feminized west.

Modern fantasy taking subversive ideas from decades ago and still thinking it's the newest, most innovative thing ever.
Not an ounce of fucking creativity.
Nowadays I'm shocked when an evil character stays evil
My ''expectations have been surverted'' to the point I roll my eyes in advance when the badass epic masked mysterious ninja shows up because I already know the strongest character will be a woman. Or a 12 years old girl.
A "priestess" was messed up enough to begin with. Now she's a Nazi psychologist too, apparently.
Yeah, all these "conservatives" are just feminists from 10-20 years ago.
In these instances I always like to point people to Fandom's Forgotten Realms wiki and their entry for "Humans":
https://forgottenrealms.fandom.com/wiki/Human

Should have included the new thing about no race-mixing to highlight their inconsistency.
"I'm a half orc"
"No those don't exist anymore that's racist"
"But my mom was a human who was raped by an orc"
"No that's racist"
".... but that's what happened. Thats why I'm an adventurer to find my dad and kill him"
"You have to be an orc or a human or it's racist. Maybe your mom raped your dad and lied to you because she's racist."
"I quit."
"Now I'm whatever-ist that wants to kill you."
"Until I find a blueberry muffin then I become a genie who farts rainbows LAWL SO RANDOM"
Subversions are just tomorrow's cliches
From when I played to now is just criminal.
Oh look, the same post I made months ago
https://kotakuinaction2.win/p/199hSf4ZUm/nerfnow-classic-fantasy-vs-moder/c/
Oh look, the same lifeless loser in all of my posts.
I think the problem is overuse of these tropes. Fall From Grace in PsT was amazing as a concept. Tieflings as fun loving demons os dumb.
Is there suppose to be something wrong with that last one?

Sure, but that doesn't negate THE VAST MAJORITY WHO ARE GOOD PEOPLE THAT BELIEVE IN THEIR RELIGION AND WISH TO HELP PEOPLE.

You sound jewish
List five names in all of history off the top of your head who did that.
Also the Crusades don't count.
