I'm surprised at the lack of negative reviews for it though. I'd expect a lot more red on the review page if it crashed and burned as bad as people are telling me.
Some games only attract specific niche crowds, so even though the majority of gamers would probably dislike it, the majority don't play it because it's obvious it won't appeal to them. Thus, the only people who pay for it, play it, and review it, are the ones that love it.
I don't think people cared about the game. It just looked bad on every aspect and PoE lore is honestly not that interesting. It is not a bad lore but a bit boring, definitely not enough to make you excited about this game. I'm guessing all the not bad reviews are just leftists gaslighting.
The lack of enthusiasm alone points on how bad the game looks. Skyrim but woke and worse is not a good selling point for a game.
Worth noting that its available through the battle.net client and they've been spamming ads for it for weeks. It probably has a solid amount of its playerbase over there.
Not anything "success" worth, but enough to narrow that gap somewhat.
Obsidian wanted to make a fantasy competitor to elder scrolls using the PoE lore.
The art director was an open anti-white racist that discriminated against white people and wanted them replaced in the industry. Obsidian chose to support him or at least keep him and not make any statements about it.
The little good will Obsidian had was gone so woke Skyrim is not selling.
It is not a sequel so it was going to be a success on word of mouth, apparently woke Skyrim didn't work.
The art director went on social media back in December and said that all Trump voters should "feel the sting of shame for the rest of their putrid lives." I'm not touching anything out of Obsidian with a 10-ft pole until he is publicly fired and Obsidian disavows his statements.
This video is both exactly what I expected out of Avowed and exactly why I didn't want it even if it hadn't been targeted toward the Concord/Veilguard "audience" (all 700 of them).
Reposting my comment from c/Gaming about the video:
I feel like Obsidian always took the wrong lessons from TES/Bethesda Fallout, namely that people want a linear story with some fairly shallow sandbox RPG stuff, rather than what they should be focusing on which is a systems based game with a story on top of it, a medieval fantasy immersive sim essentially.
Outer Worlds was like this as well, where it's clear they seem to ignore that TES/Beth Fallout are very much games that have many systems which combine to be more than the sum of their parts. Individually they may not be make or break for players, but removing them leaves the player without the experience of the agency they gain by having them all.
It's telling that their best game is the one where they didn't design the mechanics of the game and were able to execute their story on top of the framework that Bethesda built.
This game flopped hard.

People would have to care enough to play it for that.

Peak was 17k concurrent users. In comparison Veilguard was 89k.
What's curious is that it's currently Steam's top seller, but concurrent users playing it remains paltry.
Who knows, until we see units sold I’ll hold my breath. Active players wise it’s less than outer worlds which sold ~800k on steam and had a 20k peak.
Units sold often includes the wholesales to retailers. I wonder if anyone tracks retail sales.
It’s tracking based on surge of purchases, not concurrent players. Since the surge was with pre-purchases it shows up as a top seller.
Ah, I hadn't considered pre-purchases playing into that, but it makes sense. So wow, it's not even going to make it to the surface for a breath.

I can’t keep up - what’s the story on this game?
Shitlib Oblivion with Morrowind era physics

It looks good, but people complain about it's "wokeness"? I've watched a little bit of streams showing it, I didn't see anything blatantly woke :/

Hahahahahahaha
What the hell is even that? An evolved Furby? Did somebody fuck Gizmo and this is the offspring?
...it looks like you took the lead from an 80s adventure movie for kids and crossed it with the comedic sidekick character...
Snarf x Cheetara offspring

Oh God, it's a 1980 furry-soccer mom.

Nigga you BLIND?
It looks like a game that came out a decade ago slipped together by script kiddies and an artists that’s on par with current AI slop
You’re secretly a gay furry, aren’t you?
