Netflix are quickly becoming worse than Hollywood. I'm still very salty about what they did to Arcane. They had greatness in their hands and flushed it down the toilet for absolutely stupid reasons.
Unfortunately removing woke elements doesn't fix shit writing, rushed arcs and a whole load of other dumb bullshit.
Like no joke, they have major character defining stuff happen in quick flashbacks or even offscreen because they're trying to squeeze several arcs in a single season.
So on the nose and in-your-face stupid, that it could only be a Hamflix show. When you sell your show to Hamflix, you allow their DEI managers to have final editorial control over your script.
There will be one episode out of the season that is solely dedicated to this tranny, and it will be the most unliked episode out of the season. Guaranteed.
The first season offered a reasonably good execution on a brilliant premise, but there were times that it threatened to fall apart. Most famously and notably, the late season introduction of the “elites” was so poorly written that it almost destroyed the show. I have my doubts that the second run will hold it together.
On the surface its not a terrible idea, "character enters dangerous game show for stupid vapid reasons" is basically like 1/3 of the cast in some of these shows.
But as its current year, I don't suspect it'll be given the same mockery those are often given either.
In the first season they showed a loyal and dependable South Asian immigrant who ultimately died sacrificing himself (I believe). The transsexual is going to fulfill this role.
The first season had a horrendous B plot with that detective and ruined one of it's best moments with the ending retcon. Now they add a tranny. I can't not watch season 2 hard enough.
Ideally the trans character would be there to physically outcompete women, dab on them, make them uncomfortable in their bathrooms, then fail and die spectacularly during a psychological game.

Squid game wasn't really anything unique or special. There are tons of Japanese shows that have the concept of "if you lose a game you die".
