Has there ever been a leftist with integrity? The supreme court has been used as a stepping stone to violate the constitution by the left since the early days of one of them deciding that they had the power to "interpret" plain language to mean something else entirely.
The legal profession in the US has been weaponized against the rights of the people. The founders always intended law to be written in plain language, and if we survive the coming hard times, far more explicitly limiting legislative fuckery and the powers of the courts in constitution 3.0 will be crucial.
People want to be like "First" this-and-that. I can find you a person of any color you want to say whatever you want. It doesn't impress me.

Honestly a physical requirement alone would be enough. A healthy body yields a healthy mind so we'd end up filtering out most of the filth from the political system. Not all, but a huge swath of politicians would just be gone overnight with the most perfunctory physical requirements for office(ie, run a 10 minute mile).
Knowing that Sotomayor cries over this stuff somehow makes me feel a tiny bit better about the world.
