I know we’ve all said our piece about Last Jedi but this is a good summary.

I've never been a Star Wars fan (I think I've seen one movie from each trilogy), but I do remember the prequel bitch-fest. Now people look back at them like "hey maybe these weren't so bad" because they didn't truly understand how bad Star Wars could be without George Lucas, and now they do.
Kinda like Star Trek fans bitching about Rick Berman: turns out the only thing worse than Star Trek with Rick Berman is Star Trek without him.
Yeah the Disney movies were so bad it hypnotized people into thinking the Prequels were actually good. They weren't. They sucked. They ruined Anakin Skywalker from being a noble Jedi into a cringey whiny little creep, they practically character assassinated the Jedi into being a bunch of buffoons, had one of the worst romances this side of Twilight, and the only reason people showed up to the third one was because they believed they'd get to see a good volcano light saber fight with Obi-Wan. Which ended up being okay but the over-reliance on CGI highlighted how it was just two actors dancing at each other and not a real fight.
Now so much time has passed there are idiots who unironically think the Prequels are good. Mostly because they've also had multiple shows and other media to damage control and retroactively make it suck less, but it doesn't change the Prequels were once known as the greatest cinematic disappointment around.
The prequels were bad movies made by a guy who intended to make good movies. The Force Awakens was a mediocre movie made by somebody who intended to make a lot of money. The Last Jedi was a very bad movie made by somebody who explicitly wanted to ruin the franchise and hated the fans. Nothing made after that matters.
I've started to see the opposite too, where people (eg.) try to claim The Matrix (the original; not the sequels) wasn't good presumably because the guys who made it think they're women now and tried to back-port troon themes into it via a fourth movie released 15 years after the last one.
No The Matrix was good, did a whole bunch of shit we'd never seen before in a movie, and culture was referring to themes in that movie for 2 decades after it came out. There was a reason for that, and don't try to pretend that wasn't the case just because those themes are all owned by the right now and Hollywood is very uncomfortable with that fact.
I literally fell asleep during Attack of the Clones. All the obvious green screen backdrops kind of pulled me out of it. The only part I liked was bare midriff Padme.
Still a better movie than TLJ.
Hard disagree. The prequels are far from perfect but there’s definitely a lot there to enjoy
I haven’t watched Trek since the two JJ Movies. Who is Berman?
The guy in charge of literally the entire 80s-90s era. TNG + films, DS9, Voyager, Enterprise.
Wow. I’ve seen all the pre Nu trek. Can’t believe I never noticed.
Rick Berman was Executive Producer of all things Trek starting with TNG and ending with Enterprise.
I love the pre Nu trek shows. Can’t believe I never remembered that name
Fans blamed him for everything they didn't like about the shows he was EP for. Maybe that was justified (I honestly don't have an opinion), but also maybe him being just a tiny less "progressive" than everyone else kept Trek from going too far off the rails.
In a similar way that perhaps Harvey Weinstein only putting women he was attracted to on the casting couch ensured Hollywood starlets were pulled from a pool of attractive women instead of...whatever they are now.
CriticalDrinker brought this up in his recent review of Ghostbuster Frozen Empire. He said it was a bland, uninspired movie and its only saving grace is that it wasn't as bad as the REALLY shitty Fembusters movie from a while back, and that seems to be how Hollywood is running these days.... Make an absolute dogshot movie, wait a couple of years, then put out something that makes you go ''Well at least it wasn't as bad as that other literal pile of dogshit they threw in my mouth.''

This image hasn't age one bit.
The media couldn’t stop gushing over it and I remember the “you are just mad because your theories were wrong”. They have zero understanding about nerd culture and the theories I heard were much better than what we got. Also the whole subversion crap started with this or attacking fans who wanted to see more about Snoke or wanted to see a heroic Luke.
If a moderately reasonable person ran that company they would’ve said we are not having Luke Skywalker be some grumpy hermit.
I remember a Last Jedi fan got upset with me for saying I prefer what the expanded universe did with Star Wars. He called me a fake fan and said it’s just fan fiction that George Lucas didn’t care about
I seem to recall Disney giving The Snap to the entire EU, too, but somehow that doesn't count, does it? Then KK herself said that they're struggling to write stories because they 'don't have some big history of stories to pull from like comic books do.' Un-fucking-real. This is literal propaganda at this point.
In a way she was right. Disney axed the entirety of the extended universe when they took ownership so they could write their own stories. We should’ve realized then it was going to be a train wreck.
But complaining about zero source material when you destroyed all the source material is some high level bullshittery.
I mean, she's a stupid entitled bitch that was never even that good at getting coffee (there's no proof, but I 100% believe that she was only ever good at sucking cock), riding the coattails of people far more talented into a position of creative direction.
Blaming the world for the consequences of her idiot decisions is just about par for the course.
And I couldn’t believe the person interviewing her didn’t bring that up
At the very least they could’ve just continued it in a separate continuity. I get Disney owns the property but it did feel like an eff U to long time readers like me who kept the franchise alive. One of the EU authors said Disney can do what it wishes but he does worry about alienating such a loyal group of fans
The Last Jedi was what woke me up to all the politics ruining media in the first place. It was that bad. You could say i wouldnt be here if it weren't for The Last Jedi
I second that. I was kind of a normie consumer until that movie. I basically had an epiphany in the theater. I am kind of thankful for the movie in a way.
I remember watching it and thinking there was a feminist agenda but maybe I was over analyzing. First thing my brother said was they really hit you over the head with the whole women in power message
I remember leaving the cinema and messaging my group chat "What the fuck did I just watch?"
I never saw the sequel, and I never will.
It's fitting then, that the woman's plan is utterly terrible and nearly gets everyone killed. It really should've gotten everyone killed and it would've, but the survivors had plot armor.
Ironically they still had no power despite being in charge.
The plans were:
Slowly crawl away and bleed resources and ships in the process
Hide in an old base on a planet the bad guys easily follow them to because of the aforementioned crawling away.
Wait to be rescued by someone else.
That was the plan, and there were no guarantees anyone would actually come to save them, and when the actual distress message was sent, nobody did!
Why do they only propagandize white working class kids? (the black starwars actors and lesbian kissing were removed from asian and middle eastern advertising)
I want to see kathleen kennedy put a gay sex scene in her story of mohammed. Or does she only punch down?
No one would have the balls to release a Mohammad movie.
So no gay propaganda where it might make a difference?
Nope, you cant DEI a marginalized group. And remember after the Charlie Hebdo thing the story kinda morphed to, well it's aganist their religion to depict Mohammad so they had it coming? I can't imagine a person crazy enough to Rushdie Hebdo themselves depicting Mohammad
I know the black actor was shrunk down on the poster. The lesbian kiss was removed. They listened to the whining on social media about no gay Star Wars characters. But I think we know the answer to your question.
That's because modern woke productions know that virtue signaling needs to be modular scenes that are easily cut out for foreign releases where certain things won't be accepted.
The lesbian kiss in TROS is precisely that, a quick cut to the two women who kiss then a cut back to something else. It's brief enough the film loses a handful of seconds at most.
Finn being significantly reduced on the advertisement posters was done for the Chinese market and it still bombed there, so money well spent dipshits!
And Russian. Don't forget Russia banning this shit. Some of the East still has balls.
I haven't watched a Star Wars movie after Force Awakens. That was already such an awful shit show I knew watching any more of these movies would just make me sad for my favorite childhood franchise.
Yeah I lost all hope once I saw the first teaser trailer of TFA. Only reason I saw TFA was a friend begged me to go see it with him. The only tolerable parts were Finn and that Xwing pilot dude being allowed to talk to each other without a woman being in the shot.
Don't forget "TRAITOR!!"
But yeah, dull movie with way too much wasted potential and awful characterization.
Yeah, at the time of watching I did think TLJ was the worst, and my normie friends thought so but couldn't put their fingers on it.
In hindsight, The Force Awakens is the absolute worst movie for me. Seeing the intentions behind it now makes it clear the trajectory the rest of the series was headed
It was a shitshow but got a pass because of how "well" it was dressed up compared to TLJ
Yeah, dressed up in a skinsuit made out of the flesh of the first movies.
"Subverting expectations" is shorthand for "we dont know what the fuck we're doing, but if you don't like it then you're a bigot"
Actually it was just a shitty movie. If you don't become retarded and allow yourself to get attached to movies like a child then directors can't 'punish' you by making a shitty movie.
But I get what he means since critics acted like you were as bad person for wanting to see certain things. I just realized Disney’s brand of Star Wars wasn’t for me and pretty much the only Star Wars I consume now are the old books and comics. Same with a lot of hobbies. I just deal with the older stuff
they didn't just make Luke an anti hero. They made him a stupid loser that tried to kill his nephew just because he sensed dark side energy in him, abandons his duties to live in some random abandoned planet when everyone else is still fighting and throws away his light saber and he eventually dies by astroprojecting himself in to a battlefield(his real body didn't even die fighting) to buy time for others to escape, and then running out of energy
