I became a breaking news reporter in 2012, which means that in internet years, I have the experience of an almost ancient entity.

What a self-aggrandizing piece of shit.

Baltimore’s X presence is small enough that journalists like her generally know who the other journalists are working in the city, especially those reporting on Baltimore itself. Almost as soon as news broke about the bridge, though, she saw accounts she’d never heard of before speaking with authority about what had happened, sharing unsourced video, and speculating about the cause.

So the problem isn't that Twitter didn't break the news, it's that the wrong people on Twitter broke the news. Not a member of the in-group journalist clique but outsiders with their own opinions.

It's their fault we trust random guy in the street recording an incident than them.

Maybe they could try not lying baldly about every little thing.

This whine-aunt doesn't want to verify the news, she wants to control it, regardless of accuracy.

The really ironic thing is that on twatter you can community note people making dubious claims, whereas most MSM sites have long since removed the comment section.

So a random nobody who just happened to be in the vicinity of a recent event is more accountable for getting things wrong than these supposed "professionals."

It's not even that. It's that Elon Musk: 1. bought it. 2. revealed to them that he didn't share their leftist politics.

Seriously. It's that simple.

Prior to that, they loved twitter, and they constantly sucked off Elon Musk. Doesn't anyone else remember what reddit threads used to be like that involved him? Stuff like him making the stupid flamethrower, or proposing the hyperloop? They loved the guy then, because they assumed he was one of their own. Now that it's fairly clear that he's somewhere more in the middle, he's public enemy number one, and they're not going to ever stop attacking Twitter. He dared to break up their monopoly on controlling public discourse on the internet, and that is something they cannot abide.

What about the slow death of Baltimore measured in disasters like the Baltimore bridge collapse?

Does anyone actually care about baltimore though? It's a shithole, and if it (along with most major cities) died off we'd be better for it

it could be a beautiful water-port with a vibrant economy, peaceful streets, pleasant walkways. all it would take would be competent white men in control and a hard, HARD crackdown on crime. like, send them to labor camps in Africa type of sentencing. a city council that put the welfare of the city first and having the IQ and real-world experience to make it happen.

well, and taking women's voting rights away while stringing up bleeding heart progressives or at least making them get a real job.

So basically unsalvageable short of ethnic cleansing.

Obviously twitter's stats are going to be biased, but if you listen to them their engagement is up and advertisers are coming back to the platform, while based on ratings it's the old media that are dying a very fast death.

Since journalists are professional liars, I'm going to lean towards twitter's stats.

How many people have left Twitter over "misinformation?" It seems like they are all still there bitching about it to me.

It's directly proportional to the number of people who moved out of the US over Trump getting elected.

This person is actually trying to run cover for not getting to a story fast enough, so people got their 'news' from twitter accounts that were faster to the story than they were.

I mean forget the usual stuff like Accuracy? We don't know. Speculation? Likely. Quick and fast updates as they happened? Yes, but maybe not 100% accurate until it can be verified. Most of it was, though.

I'm impressed at both the monumental hubris, and lack of foresight as to how this makes them look. It's honestly astonishing. It's literally fucking:

"Some randos did better than me, a freelance journalist. How dare you?"

Holy shit Vox. I knew you were bottom of the barrel, but you're boring through to the center of the earth with this, just to be worse than that. Holy shit.

Not to mention that these types think Twitter is a news source. They'll comb twitter and reddit to find a topic and do a quick and usually inaccurate report about a trending topic that someone else did all the work to make said posts with.

That's not news. That's not helpful. More accurately: You're not news. You're not helpful.

You live in Baltimore, A.W. Ohlheiser. You could have turned on local news and heard what they were saying and copy pasted for those not in the know.

Instead you bitch about not being first, compared to some unknown accounts?

Holy shit, the hubris of it all.

I guarantee that MSM "journalists" were the kids who would pick a fight, get owned, and then lie to their parents and teachers about what happened to make themselves the victims.

To be fair - there is a lot of spam in the default algorithm on twitter now.

Only the “following feed” is worth checking

They're still so so mad about Elon buying twatter. I swear that might even be a bigger nightmare for them than GG. We'll be hearing them howl about it for years.

They are mad because their Owners are still mad. They despise free speech and decentralized flow of information more than they despise White men.
