I'd love to write this off as someone making a bad faith attack, but he's quite possibly that retarded and far down the rabbit hole that he believes saying you're a sex means you are that sex.

Also strange how these people seem to have zero cognitive dissonance as to why this isn't true for other things. I know it's overused, but if I say I'm a toaster, or a porcupine...why aren't I that? Why can't I be an Apache attack helicopter?! If it works for men and women, why not other things?

But yeah, while not certain, it's definitely possible he's just actually that delusion; he may actually believe Rowling writing under a pen name is "transitioning."

I'm 99% sure he's serious. It also sounds like he's transphobic if he conflates gender transition being comparable to writing a book under an assumed name.

So slightly unintentionally based?

For those that don't know, Rowling also wrote crime fiction books under the pen name "Robert Galbraith". Apparently that means she "transitioned" somehow.

He'd have a point if she wrote self-help books for men under a male name, but she wasn't.

For anyone curious, no those aren't good books.

No, which supposedly was part of the point being tested. Normies consoomed the recognised name and not the quality of content. When JK's name wasn't on the book nobody gave a shit.

I've always wondered if Harry Potter was ever legitimately popular and became a hit naturally in its early years, or if the publishers deliberately engineered it to be one from the start, giving it more hype and advertisement than usual to draw people into buying it.

It's a Cinderella type story aimed at schoolchildren about being taken away from what life/school they have to go learn at magic school, it was always going to be popular with the target demograph. The additional popularity came from the movies and adults already outside the demograph going fucking bananas for it which is also where most of the insanity surrounding JK comes from and the "Read another book!" meme.

Sure, it might be popular with schoolchildren...for a time. But typically, they would outgrow whatever series they were reading and move onto other things. And where the hell did this crazy adult fanbase come from? It seems like Harry Potter was attracting a cult from the beginning and it just kept persisting.

Have you missed like the last century or something?

Comic-con, star trek conventions, anime conventions, etc. Star Wars weddings. Star Trek weddings. Marvel weddings. These are dominated by adults who are spending shit loads of money on their fictional worlds and associated products®. Harry Potter is just one of many, many fandoms.

One old parallel -- Civil War reenactors. No "consoom product" but people who are obsessed with a story, events, etc.

as of February 2024, the series has sold more than 20 million copies worldwide

The last one sold 50,925 copies in its first week on sale in the UK, placing it first on the UK Official Top 50 book sales list.

Before it was revealed she was the author the 1st book sold 1,500 copies.

No clue. But let's put it this way. I didn't pay for them and I still felt like I deserved a refund.

He does not think that. He is making a bad faith argument. In fact, this is a great example of one if you ever need to explain the concept to someone.

It's nice of you to assume he's just pretending to be retarded.

No, he's motivated to make the bad faith argument because he's retarded.

There's no functional difference.

One has to be pretty retarded if they think pretending to be retarded is funny.

So does that mean the essay is still transphobic? 🤔

If we use the same logic as race, then JK Rowling is now trans. Which means (s)he can't be transphobic anymore!

Or it means she detransitioned, the worst kind of transphobe.

These people talk like every hobby or personal preference is a separate gender. I'll hear them talk about how they identify as Target shoppers or identify as a book reader. I guess it's some weird narcissism mixing with an inferiority complex.

These people talk like every hobby or personal preference is a separate gender.

And, by Modern™ definitions, they're not wrong. They made up "gender," started with it linked to sex, then unlinked it, and now "gender" is just "personality." Or usually signifying lack of one. But, yeah, they succeeded in "normalizing" it to such a degree that even by their own rules gender is meaningless, since there are infinity of them now.

I guess it's some weird narcissism mixing with an inferiority complex.

Bingo, bingo, bingo. We have a winner.

We're living in an age where people can yell things and just be considered that thing, and yet when Michael Scott declared bankruptcy by shouting it, it didn't work.

And to be fair, he didn't say it, he declared it.
