Something I've noticed with Anime recently, with the biggest example I can remember being Bleach TYBW of Authors using the anime adaptation to 'fix' mistakes they did in the original manga. Like adding more explanation to a scene or just making it flow better.
The localisers and translators AREN'T doing that, instead they are forcing their agendas into work they had no part in creating. Thought it was worth showing the disparity as the first gets massive acclaim by long term fans, the latter gets us asking fir literal bots to replace your ass.
I've said it many times, if the Japanese just made a Steam dealing exclusively in anime and manga, combined with better AI translations, piracy would clear overnight as well as money would pour in from customers in other countries.
Them using middle men like Crunchyroll is only hurting them.
The problem is, and always has been, that Japanese businesses basically don't care much about their foreign markets. They treat it as throwaway concepts that just give them passive income. The only time they don't is when they've become so Westernized they are barely Japanese anymore (Sony, Sega, Capcom).
Its why everytime a manga company tries to make its "official global platform" is uses retarded ideas like Tokens that the Japs are buckbroken enough to like but causes it to immediately fail everywhere else.
The idea of having to put in effort to get foreign markets, as well as the very thought that everyone isn't exactly like them, will prevent that from ever happening.
Kinda why I still pray for the quake to take Sony management out.
I can't tell if you want a quake to hit Japan or an Escape From LA style scenario to shake California into the Pacific. I've been hoping for the latter for awhile now.
Its why localizers and their other ilk have managed to easily infest every single facet of the industry and flood it with their cancers so unopposed they feel comfortable bragging about it outright.
I don't think its a good thing to let these people have access to your copyright and name stamp period nor let them have their own growing power structure that could threaten your own one day (see, Sony).
Because part of that uncaring is also literally listening to no one either. But since your localizer company is in your company they actually have access to your ear and can influence you. Its isolating yourself to only have a middleman tell you what's going on in the world.
So really, its no defense at all. Its just throwing your hands up and going full isolationist and hoping that they leave you alone while they ruin roughshod through the world.
Hopefully we'll get more games made in Japan and just selectively hire certain outsiders for particular roles. Japan I imagine can discriminate with impunity.
“It Is Unacceptable For Someone To Alter A Work Without Considering The Original Author’s Intent”
The Woke Left: "We have considered the original author's intent to be problematic and therefore will be changing everything except the title so we still attract gullible normies."
Manager: "I need you to do a Japanese-to-English translation of this script. Do it as accurately as possible so that foreign readers understand the story and hopefully invoke the emotional responses we want them to feel."
The Woke Left: "Best I can do is completely change the story and characters to fit what I want them to understand and feel."
I've seen a lot of dumb localizer moves that were just bad. Like, not the usual kind of self insert, change stuff to see what they can get away with, just bad in general.
There was an instance posted here about a week or so ago, where someone felt the need to change the dialogue of what was said. It was someone who was using a bit of playful sarcasm about someone turning their allegiance around, and they turned it into full on beheading.
Like the difference in Skyrim from "My ancestors are smiling at me imperial. Can you say the same"
to
"Come on! I haven't got all morning!"
It changed the tone of what was being said to something they did not intend.
Aside from the other BS I mentioned, that's the sort of thing that bugs me.
I've been noticing more and more low level translation changes in the anime releasing over the past year or so. Nothing even tonal, just straight up minor conversational text being different from the spoken dialog in small ways that don't really change anything but are apparent enough to pick up on as someone who doesn't actually speak Japanese but has consumed decades of fansubs.
"'Tis yon faith that wrongs ye, not the excellent localization." was an FFT meme for a bit way back when, on the remakes turning the practically machine-translated original FFT into some ponderous Shakespearean mess.
No middle ground, apparently, between Stop Bracelets and veritably ghastly yontither olde Englishe.
It would be pretty easy to put that in the contracts, so if such a directive is missing, either the creator doesn't care or they got enough money to not care.
So the director of the best Final Fantasy game has the best take on localization, adaptation, and remakes. Makes sense.

It's both an advantage and a limiter that mindset.

If they could have a few non retarded managers that looked up to Gabe, they could just apply that to Crunchyroll we could solve most of our problems.
I can't tell if you want a quake to hit Japan or an Escape From LA style scenario to shake California into the Pacific. I've been hoping for the latter for awhile now.
The latter, always the latter. Sony have a HQ in California and their decisions have been worse ever since.
Honestly that sounds like a pretty strong defense mechanism against foreign meddling more than anything else.
My hope is that the foreign market collapses itself to the point where we go back to fansubs being the norm.

CrunchyLoL?
Crunchyroll is a symptom of the larger Sony problem:
Great assests and business placement
Retarded management
I doubt they'll be part of the solution unless ALL their management are swallowed up in the big quake along with the rest of California

exactly. it's not yours to change.
Hard to believe the vandal localizers who were claiming Matsuno was on their side were lying freaks.
Final Fantasy Tactics?
The one with the extremely rushed translation with tons of errors in it?
Though it did give us some based lines like "Governments falsify history only so it favors them."

I wish there was a port of fft to pc
I cannot think of a better group of people to be professionally eviscerated by AI than Localizers.
