The focus seems to be on either being accepting of a woman’s obesity or a woman going overboard with their beauty standards.

Yes, an unrealistic standard of perfect beauty is damaging, but so is allowing one to become a land whale and thinking it’s healthy.

Focus on being legitimately healthy and people will see the beauty that being healthy brings.

Don't give them the benefit of the doubt. Having ideals that you can never live up to is a good thing. "Feeling bad" about some fact of life isn't "damage" or "trauma" or "harm". Dealing with your feelings constructively is how normal humans should operate.

I'd say you're right but just barely as it's comparing a firebombing to a nuke.

Toxic beauty standards IS a thing not just leftist delusion and we just need to see the rates of eating disorders and plastic surgery to see that. The worse thing is we can see it going to RUIN the natural beauty a woman has and turn it into a plastic monstrosity (see Erin from the boys)

Now body positivity is worse than that because it promotes a decrease on standards, same as those that promote being sluts or we should just accept minorities engaging in criminality because 'it's part of their culture and don't know better'. It's a race to the bottom mentality because they don't want to put in the basic effort to maintain standards and rather see everything degrade and erode around them than even do a minute of work.

a firebombing to a nuke.

More like the radiation vs the fire storm both from the same nuke. Its the same issue just expressed in a different way, same root causes.

The question is, what is that root cause, social media, the media, living in cities, some outside force pushing both...

Probably the latter but social media accelerated it.

The 'normisation' of the Internet thanks to smartphones has only been a bad thing. Before when you needed some technical expertise to effectively use it, there was a gatekeeper to ensure you couldn't be bombarded with messaging.

Now thanks to smartphones giving 24hr easy access, it opened up the sewage gates..

Women tend to be much more social creatures, and to me that means gossip and praise/shaming is much more prevalent in their social circles.

Women caught in the toxic beauty loop seem to want to be praised by their peers and seem to be scared of the rejection that they'll get if they slip.

Women caught in the toxic body positivity loop seem to want to bully others into praising them for basically giving up on their health.

either way, it's all about what others think about them and not what they think about themselves.

The only thing "toxic" about beauty standards is faggots control media depictions of "beauty" and these degenerates have a deranged view of what is beautiful.

That would explain how so many 'girl next door' looking women after plastic surgery look like a barbie doll had its head in a vice.

Well that and the money plastic surgeons and such make from such a horrible industry.

I dare say that at most, 10% of cosmetic procedures that are undergone are even remotely justified, such as in cases of disfigurement and birth defects. Just about everything else is extra fluff that is totally unnecessary with potentially backfiring results.

On a similar but unrelated note, things are liable to get a little more nebulous though as we've already started to see the effects from video and photo filters, which are only going to become even more capable of artificial visual enhancements as the technology improves.

If you want to get all conspiracy theory take a look at how much plastic surgery Jewish women get to look more White.

Oh I've become very much aware of it. I was very tempted to bring it up, but opted not to. Once people start the noticing, you almost don't even need to spell out all the examples because it becomes so apparent.

eating disorders and plastic surgery

It doesn't even need to be that.

One video that sticks in my head was a woman bemoaning being ugly in the tik tok 'five stages of acceptance' method.

The thing that gets me, though, is that... she looked fine! Cute, even. Not ugly, not overweight - the worst you could say about her that she was 'average', and I felt that was reaching a bit.

...so, naturally, she then went to the final stage of 'revenge', with a supposed 'glow up' that just had her looking like a porn star. Skimpy clothes, makeup caked on, the works.

Maybe I'm just turning into a were-Boomer or something in my more off moments, but we really shouldn't be basing beauty standards off of whores, of all things.

It's why I base my beauty standards of fantasy and mythology, something impossible to obtain but good to aspire to as who doesn't want even a fraction of that?

Basing beauty standards off someone who spreads their legs for a few notes is just pathetic.

Are women surprised that they're being lied to and manipulated to look a certain way?

Then I guess they should get out of the church of the perpetually offended.

They all dress the same, think the same, act the same, talk the same. Wear the same problem glasses, and your choice of 3 haircuts: dyke, lopsided head with shaved sides, and, I want to speak to the manager.

Women: Being thin is an unrealistic beauty standard.

Also women: A man has to make $500k a year to talk to me.

my advice to women who are worried about their images has been this: it's not about how you look it's about what you can do.

While I personally subscribe to this philosophy, I also think it genuinely works because being a land whale significantly limits one's ability to do anything. endurance goes down the drain, any sort of running will hurt the knees, and balance and coordination also suffer.

encouraging people to work towards the goal of being able to run farther, jump higher, lift heavier, dance better, etc will naturally improve their figure as a side effect, but the focus on improvement in ability is much more rewarding.

Exactly. It's mind numbingly stupid how much leftists and feminism have bogged down all dialogue on the subject, misconstruing what should be simple logic.

A physically fit and healthy body, that is properly nourished with good nutrition (and sometimes with good genes) make for a more attractive and appealing mate. Not only are there valid instinctive reasons for this, but there's very much real and practical benefits as well that could help lead to a happier and more successful relationship. Better physical health, mental health, emotional health, and sexual health.

And the sexual health would be just as much due to "visual" appeals as well as due to the physical and performative advantages with being healthy and fit.

see, I'm not even sure it's so much of a conspiracy as a corporate coordinated psyop. corporations will always design and advertise their products to appeal to the base instincts of the widest audience they can get.

women tend to seriously care about what others think about them, much more than men. so the obvious marketing strategy is to appeal to that base instinct. "buy our product so other people will like you"

"I'd rather be fat and happy with my appearance, and just take medication for the health problems." A fatty I went to school with actually said this, completely oblivious to what going through diabetic ketoacidosis is like. I didn't get a choice, yet people like her won't put any effort into avoiding these problems.

On the other hand, men have to be 6ft tall, have an above average penis and make $100k minimum to even be non-invisible to women. You need all that, a fit body and a good jawline to be considered somewhat attractive by women. Everything that makes a man attractive to women is genetic and can't be changed. Women literally just have to be skinny and not be fully insane and they will easily lock down a man in America.

The truly insane part is the argument that women's beauty standards somehow come from gaming. No, ladies, you do this to each other.
