The whole thing is just so soulless, the project succeeded because Eric July is black and the "counter culture" crowd desperately wanted to prove that they're not racist.

Glancing at his other streams... what is it with EVS engaging in drama bullshit with all the other comics youtubers? I know a lot of times it's just clickbait titles and when you watch the stream EVS is barely even talking about that thing but still...
For years there were always a few weirdos on Nerdrotic and Youngrippa live streams trying to start shit in the chat by bringing up drama from another channel, usually ComicsArtistPro. I always thought it was just trolls trying to get the various youtubers fighting one other, but sometimes I wonder if those people don't actually represent EVS's community.
I'm not the most familiar with EVS, so take this with a grain of salt, but my impression was he's a bit of a mega-boomer (despite not being a boomer by age); a bit like Jordan Peterson, he's good on many issues, but can't really engage online like a reasonable person, blows shit out of proportion, and spins out. So - again, limited interaction, don't take my word for it - yeah, drama seems like something EVS attracts/creates due to how he interacts with things.
I think Isom is ok. Not great but hopefully Eric gets better. Like you said I hate the infighting. Also wish Eric wouldn’t get so upset over criticism. There are trolls but also legit criticism. I love when Nerdrotic and Eric go over comic books. I haven’t read Alphacore yet. You?
Evs has become a drama tuber, that’s his business model now.
Yes EVS is certainly a drama fag, but that doesn't make OP incorrect either.
I felt quite a bit let down when I realized how much of the art is copy pasta 3D assets, and then the barest of texture put over. It's all digital so the 'muh reference' is a lie. He (Cliff) treats each panel like a stage, and drops in the 3D assets, vehicles, furniture, buildings, characters. Then renders it out flat, smears some ClipStudio brush that looks like tire tracks on it. There's almost no actual drawing in ISOM or ISOM 2. Instead of axing Cliff, EJ hires another artist to keep Cliff in line for ISOM 3. I lost interest though.
I thought they were ok. I’m interested enough to see what happens. I hope his writing improves and that he can take criticism. Shouldn’t have the mindset of liking something because someone is black.
I have Alphacore but haven’t read it yet but obviously Chuck Dixon is a legend. I hope he is giving lessons to Eric. I also hate that him and EVS had a fallout. I would’ve listened to EVS. The guy knows about comics
I wish Yaboi Zac had listened to EVS rather than go and be a hermit to avoid the drama.
What did he tell Yaboi Zac? I do hate that there is so much drama
EVS reviewed some of Yaboi Zack's Splato comics after they came out.
He was pretty disappointed. In the second outing of the Jawbreakers Zac killed them all in a last stand against a Super badguy with god-like powers.
EVS was saying "This is terrible! People want to read stories about your jawbreakers, and you have killed them all!"
Zack (later) said: "Ah, whoops. We can fix that?"
I don't know if he did, but people don't give a shit about prequels, so he had better pull something out of his ass.
At the same time EVS was reviewing the comic with art by Narwhal and colors by Zack. Narwhal, has a quick, lose style. The comic was a bit political about life in an authoritarian SF thing. The art looked more or less unfinished.
EVS said "This isn't professional level art". He was right, it wasn't.
He ponted out that he could have given Zack art reviews, corrections, etc. Help even. He also said: "People want more Jawbreakers. Just do more Jawbreakers stories!"
And he was right. Zack made a bunch of mistakes, most of which could have been avoided with advice from EVS.
That said, Zack has been literally terrorized by stalkers and has developed a severe allergy to DRAMA. EVS seems to consistently be at the center of a massive DRAMA shit-storm.
That said, EVS is really a top-tier comic artist. He actually knows his shit. Writing comics isn't easy.
A lot of this recent drama is YellowFlash's fault. He rage quit the ComicsGate Twitter community room and nuked it on the way out pissing a lot of people off. Then it came to light that YF hasn't paid his artist for 7 months, because despite saying his book will be released in November 2023 he hasn't even started crowdfunding for it. (It should be noted that YF is one of these morons that likes to constantly criticize EVS about late books) In the meantime his artist's house floods pretty badly and is now forced to live in their back yard in a camper. All of this with no income. Plus he was unable to have a Christmas with his family because he wasn't being paid.
EVS rightfully criticized YF about how bullshit the situation is. Eric July got involved because YF went running to him for cover. EVS was paid to review EJ's books and he said they were shit (they are) and EJ melted down over it. He even ran from a discussion with EVS on Alex Stein's show, which he initially agreed to, because he didn't like that it was being called a debate.
I just want to read good comics.
EVS loves his role of taste maker. People play politics and drama to get his favour and access to his audience.
Writing a single hit comic is hard. Doing it every month is ridiculously hard.
I hope Yaboi Zack learns and Jones his craft to become a great writer and publisher. I hope that EJ gets his shit together.he is riding a few bicycles at once at the moment.
But holy fuco am I tired of all this bitchy drama.
YBZ took an almost month break from YouTube, because Eric July said if you have late books you shouldn't be making videos. When, its prob better to keep making videos promoting, just focus on wasting less time. YBZ is a self-admitted TikTok addict, so he may just have been taking a complete internet break, but only relayed the YouTube hiatus.
I don't know what YBZ's channel monetisation is like, but it's my understanding that the comics pay the bills. Getting caught up on products that people have already paid you for is good advice if you want them to keep pre-ordering your books.
His only reach is YouTube. He doesn't promote on any other platform. If the churn of lost subs outpaces the growth of new subs, each campaign will do less.
Yes, it's good advice to get your books caught up. There's less extreme ways of going about it. When the advice is coming from your competition who thinks crowdfunding is a duplicitous business model, you can probably take that into account when considering the advice it's housing.
When it turns out your competition's main argument against crowdfunding is 'My books are on time' because their artist using drop-in 3D models and not actually drawing 90% of their books... It's ok to give their opinions a little less weight.
This is why I stopped watching EVS.
When he was constantly making excuses for homosexuality, it was a hard unsubscribe from me.
This is about his stance on your beloved pedo anime shit, isn't it?
Are you for real?
Mike left because he'd spent all of his IndieGoGo money on mortgage and back taxes and didn't want people hounding him over it.
Doug left because he wanted to form a little private fiefdom of his own. He'd been stirring trouble from the start, going on War Campaign's Larpening streams saying shit like "You're my guys!", trying to pry them away from EVS. He couldn't take Cecil's put-downs and tried to have him cancelled (should have tried harder, imo.) When he completed the schism, he felt next to no duty-of-care for the guys who came over with him, he even fucked over Elliot Fernandez by having him draw extra 10+ pages on a book that was already fully funded and priced for the original, smaller book.
Don't get me wrong, EVS has a lot of problems. His crushing lack of self esteem leads him to constant use of kayfabe, which is a problem since all of his personas are absolute assholes. The 1950s Rat Pack man's man, the sadistic mobster psycho, you name it. But he is absolutely commited to his barbeque (except the auctions). All you have to do is bend over for him, don't bruise his ego, and he'll make you rich. Kinda like Trumpy.
Seriously, the butthurt you're displaying is off the scale. Which tribe are you from? Tim Lim's? War Campaign? Pussyanopolous? Eefun Van Shkoyvah?
Ah, so you weren't around when Mike burned the frog book in his outdoor barbeque (wink, wink), with his retarded kid in the background, crying "But, it's my book! It's my book!" Why can't you just admit that you're talking out of your tourist ass, take the L and go back to jerking off to your pedo cartoons.
That tracks with most of the comments on readcomicsonline, and nobody there has any financial motivation when reviewing things considering the nature of the site. In fact from what I remember there was a troll making the same immature comments in every issue about one of the names of someone involved and said troll was being called out for it by those who were also criticising the comic.
It just doesn't seem to be a good story, or have art that's enjoyed.

tl;dr "kudos for self posting and going against DC and Marvel but the comic is only ok"
Some examples taken from the main page and both issues.
Overall thoughts by some posted on the main page of the comic.

tl;dr the single biggest criticism is the price, with varying reviews in terms of story and art.

[A sharp decline from the mostly positive comments in issue 1]
tl;dr the comic feels to generic and "90s" bland.
Pro-tip: None of this post is worth reading because it's just TDS style sperging.
Assuming this was the user "hellsonly" who repeatedly calls Eric by the name "Ewic Juwy" therefore sounding like a 3 year old, who then made another account to comment on the second issue for whatever reason. FYI the term "Ewic" appears 20 times in the comments of the first issue alone and "Juwy" appears 17 times, in part because the troll fails to spell it at least once - that's how demented this troll is.

These ones are less full on TDS style ranting, however.
lol most of the criticism are valid points, it's hilarious how much he malds over the "anti woke bigots"
This fat fuck needs to get off the internet and fulfill his late as fuck campaigns. I backed Reignbow the Brute and it is 3 years late. It is infuriating to watch this dude spend so much time streaming and sperging on twitter and not getting work done.
Isom looks mediocre at best but at least he got it out to paying customers quickly and they seem happy about it so who gives a fuck?
Outside of what I think about Eric July, the comics are less than mediocre. It makes Marvel and DC comics look good in comparison. He also completely lied about using 3D assets. I highly doubt anyone would have a problem with him using them if he actually admitted to using them. But, nope. He was on some conservative black womans show saying it was all made up because “everyone is jealous of his success”. Then just a couple weeks ago he makes a video saying they do use 3D assets, but didn’t know until recently. The fuck? I’m done with that guy.
Eh, I don’t care how mid the comic is tbh, as long as it makes fat balding pedofaggots continue to seethe.
EVS is a turbo faggot drama chaser. His "reviews" are irrelevant.
comics are gay
They're average, and Cyberfrog is nowhere near good enough for Ethan to sit on a high horse about it. Eric should stop engaging in this drama completely and focus on improving his comics. Ethan should stop encouraging trolls to fuck with Eric and speed up the timeline on his deliverables.
No one is innocent in all this shit. Ethan was singing high praises about Isom until his relationship with Eric soured after Eric refused to give him warehouse space. Then he took Eric's comments about not being a crowdfunding campaign and about getting books out to customers as a personal attack. Eric forgot the first rule of internet interaction, which is to ignore bad faith across and trolls if you have something to lose.
OP is correct and this funding goal was about earning "good boy" points for most of the people who backed it.
HOWEVER. Even if it only barely-passable, it's still better than Marvel/DC.
Maybe the more recent crap that woke-shills have been pushing out but there are still very good works coming out from Marvel at least, like the new Ultimate Spider-Man
https://readcomiconline.li/Comic/Ultimate-Spider-Man-2024
The art and story are amazing so far.
This misunderstands the point. The fact that Marvel/DC might produce good stuff occasionally is immaterial. The important thing is to break the back of the monopoly and ensure that independent creators can sustain themselves making quality work.
EVS originally joined forces with VoxDay pre clown world with Vox' rabid puppies effort and then began attacking Vox for not being as moderate as EVS is. Not unlike his behavior here.
Vox isn't everyone's cup o' tea and that's understandable but EVS' behavior and reactions and outright betrayal to Vox follows the same pattern. Be weary.
Shoutout to The Biggest Problem in the Universe for exposing these grifters. Hilarious show
I watched Josh from Kiwifarms review ISOM #1 after he ordered a copy to Serbia after all the faggy Dick Masterson/Nick Rekieta trolling of Eric July over it.
I agree that overall the story seemed pretty meh.
But I wouldn't take anything Ethan Van Sciver says about Eric July or ISOM seriously.
EVS is threatened by anyone that threatens his title as the Comicsgate big dog.
Ethan decided to cozy up to Nick Rekieta and Dick Masterson again long after they were shown to be disingenuous retards alogging EJ over jealousy in bad faith.
the reviews themselves are pretty fair criticisms about the comics from a comic book artist's perspective, he zoomed in and explained what was wrong with them nearly panel by panel, and you can see how bland and lifeless the arts traced from 3d assets are
