Who's villainizing the brown dude? They're villainizing the executives who keep casting non-white people in the roles of white characters (or in this case, fictionalized versions of a historical figure.)

I never understood this "circling of the wagons" that actors do these days when people point out how shit their production is. There will be future productions, why go down with the ship? One example I remember was Jason Isaacs who played Lorca in Star Trek Discovery. Even among the most vocal STD haters, almost everyone was saying the one bright spot in the show was Isaacs and his acting. Some critics were hoping that he might be brought back in a larger role. (and get rid of the piece of fucking wood black woman they had as main character)

It might be "smart" in a short-term nepotistic sense, understanding the industry cares more about virtue signaling than sales, but the actual smart move is to be like Henry Cavil and side with the audience and the integrity of your stories.

Honestly they made this decision on purpose. I’m so sick of these race swap decisions and then they act shocked when there is backlash. They took an actual historic figure and changed their race for no other reason than “the message”.

"Indians" would be presumably the overwhelming majority of the population of countries on the Indian subcontinent, plus those whose ancestors came from there. "Whites" would be presumably be those descended primarily from Northern, Central, and probably Eastern Europe. Even with the numbers you give, there's not enough for multiple billions, but certainly hundreds of millions.
India, Pakistan and Bangladesh alone make up 1.82 billion in just their home countries, whereas whites in Europe, the US, and Canada make up about 1.12 billion. This is without even getting into any immigration, which would presumably favor Indians more given their propensity to breed.
Even more so, its without getting into the fact that the Bri*ish define Indians (and often the MIddle East) as Asian, meaning their own retarded categorization would count China and all the other slanty eyes as part of the same ethnic group and make that number the majority of the world's population by far.

This is exactly what they're trying to do in Ireland. There was recently a scandal about a presenter on the state broadcaster's channel being paid an absurd amount, with a followup narrative about how maybe it's time to scrap the concept of the TV license. This was pushed in headline news on all TV and radio, for weeks.
If they are pushing the topic, they are comfortable with it. They would not be comfortable with it if they did not stand to profit from the secret alternative they have lined up. If dropping the TV license really hurt them, they would memoryhole all discussion of it, like they do for anything else uncomfortable.
