Say you're creatively bankrupt without saying it: Last Of Us 2 remaster announced (youtu.be)

A 3 year old game needs a remaster?

Let's be honest. The sales were poor so they're trying a relaunch to recover from the losses.

This game is not worthy of a remaster, they should just push an update if they want it soo much.

They didn't even make a Last Of Us 3 yet.

Much live movies, games have development costs, marketing costs, publishers cuts, sales platform cut (Steam is 30% off the top). Plus sales and price cuts after a year plus from release.

It cost $220 million to make. Usually it needs to have gross sales 3x the development cost to be profitable.

Most of the buyers were woke faggots and people who liked the first game but didn't notice the drama before buying.

didn't notice the drama before buying

Primarily this. It's so easy to be in these circles and completely forget that most people don't even go online to find out about games before buying, let alone join a forum to discus the state of the industry as a whole. They might watch a trailer, hear by word of mouth or go off their experience from previous instalments.

Predicted much. The numbers for the game dropped off hard after the initial sales

The numbers for the game dropped off hard after the initial sales

There's a reason for that, and it's not going to go away with a rerelease. Which is what it is, maybe with a couple graphics settings changed to help sell the lie. They'll eke some more money out of it but people aren't going to suddenly love it.

They had so much good will with TLOU 1 and they destroyed all of it.

There's a concept called 'legs' in movie sales, and the same can be applied to games.

Yes, most every game has more sales initially, but how steep that drop off is gives a strong indication as to player satisfaction, word-of-mouth, and how supportive or damaging this release is to the brand.

Just because there is nearly always a drop-off, doesn't mean that we can't look at the trend and draw some conclusions. Yes games are a bit different with their capacity to offer an ongoing expierience, go on discount, and to be updated later, but we can still attempt to compare like-for-like. Pick some other similar single player story driven game titles, sequels to another, and see how much they relatively dropped off. The question isn't whether it dropped off, most games will. The question is if it dropped off harder than should be expected, because word of mouth killed any hype.

We know it was a flop relative to its budget. We can be fairly sure it's a flop given its effect on the brand and future releases (similar to how star wars 8 harmed star wars 9 and solo). I think it's very plausible that it further flopped with a steeper-than-expected drop off in sales, but haven't looked into that specifically.

80% drop off up on the higher end of drop-off for sure. It's another sign in favour of it being a 'flop'. They generally expect 50-70% drop off. Now you can justify that with 'heavily pre-ordered titles' being an exception. And that does make some logical sense. But if word of mouth was good, there would have been less drop off.

They had to give this game away to sell copies after the initial release. There were copies packaged for free with literally anything they could get away with. I've seen pictures of this game being bundled with fucking arcade sticks.

Units sold does not equal profit.

You’re falling into the common psychological trap where if you see double digits, you assume it’s good.

10 million copies of an indie game made by 30 people holds different weight to 10 million copies of a AAA game that cost $220 million on development alone.

Out of curiosity how well do you think the remaster is going to do

I hope they include one of those warnings about the game being made in a different time that doesn't reflect current sensitivities.

Also there's talk of a part 3 in the works (who the fuck wants that after 2??)

If I wanted anything getting a full remaster, no changing of dialogue or gameplay just a graphical overhaul, it'd be the Jak and Daxter games or maybe the old school Crash Bandicoot games (as Crash Bash would be a great online party game)

But with these defilers at the helm...I'll stick to my still working perfectly stored PS2 and stored game discs than risk these cretins ruining it.

Its not bankruptcy, its Neil taking a victory lap.

He knows this will reignite the controversy again, and then he will get all the accolades falling out of the woke and media all over again. His ego will be stroked back up to full mast while he laughs at those he sees as beneath him.

That's how these types work. They live on pure ego.

I believe you are absolutely correct however I would remind you of their massive round of layoffs that just happened.

I think it's just as much a desperate bid for revenue

I was unaware of the layoffs, so that does change things a bit.

But I think if they were desperate for money, they'd do the guaranteed money moves. Like Jak and Daxter remasters or the like.

It being this game specifically still indicates its Neil's ego at the center of it.

All the Jak and Daxter devs are gone, only the cinematic slob makers remained.

Well yeah, but they still have the game available. Slap some HD textures on it, put it in a multipack and it'll sell quite well.

A GAME RELEASED THREE YEARS AGO DOES NOT NEED A REMASTER

It's getting worse. It's like we're crossing some kind of event horizon...
