If X is to be the holding company and Twitter is the product brand like Alphabet / Google or Meta / Facebook then it makes a lot of sense.
But X-ing out a 280 character X when you want to share some stupid shower thought to all your followers on X.com is moronic. Maybe the idea is instead of sending a "text" you send an "x"? Still dumb.

I can't for the life of me figure out why Musk would want to do this -- brands are hella valuable. For a company like Twitter that little blue bird might have been their most tangible asset. I'd say it was worth. .. 10 billion? maybe more. And he just wants to light that on fire? Bizarre.
I would argue "Twitter" as a brand has been stripped of any equity it might otherwise have had when it routinely silences, deboosts, and bans people both at the behest of leftist lunatics and government alike.
That said, he didn't exactly clean house so while I can respect trying a fresh start it's not really ready for that fresh start.
My biggest complaint about X is that it reminded me too much of the Sharp X68000 (in my imagination as it doesn't really match).

Perhaps he felt like the brand was irrevocably tarnished? I would have at least transitioned into it slowly, over a couple years time. With X starting as a separate app that includes twitter. Actually I would have done a many things different than Musk at twitter, but that's why he's the billionaire and I'm not.
Then why buy it? Just build your own Twitter with blackjack and hookers.
